the holiday season is underway which for many means- parties and the festive drinks that come with them with all the deadly crashes we've had.... u-m-c is reminding everyone- especially high schoolers - what happens when you drink irresponsibly. fox5's abby theodros was at their annual "drink drive lose" event and joins us live from u-s 95 near horizon. today was all about learning just how dangerous it is to drive under the influence ... take a look. imagine experiencing the effects of alcohol without taking a single sip. officer: "a little higher!" so being able to do these activities - it really allows you to feel what its like "now put these on" students put on special goggles that simulated the damaging effects of alcohol... nicci holman: it was hard. you think oh glasses- no big deal but then you get them on and it's completely different - the whole depth is skeweed. its hard. way harder than youd expect. and if that wasn't hands on enough - the students witnessed a roll over simulation demonstrating the worst that can happen when you drink and drive. capt. richard birt: what i was describing was on scene -the we usually see death. national statistics - almost 30 people in the u.s. die in car an alcohol every day. and with the holiday captain birt has the public - teens to adults - lets enjoy the holiday season and not get in the car

according to the latest stats from umc - 27 people brought to umc have died in traffic accidents in clark county between january and december. 400 others were taken to umc with injuries. live near the 95 and horizon- abby theodros fox5 news local. las vegas. this is the 17th year umc has hosted the drink drive lose event. debris went flying all over the road this morning in a crash where one driver was thrown from a car. it happened at around 3:30 this morning at mlk and gowan. two cars were involved. according to north las vegas police, the driver of the white car was not wearing a seatbelt... and was ejected. that person was taken to umc in critical condition. officers believe the driver of the blue car was at fault... and is in custody. the crash shut down that intersection for several hours. a louisiana ex- convict and his girlfriend have been indicted in

charges in the death of a woman whose body was found in a duffel bag. a nine-count indictment filed thursday could lead to a death penalty trial for jamar kenty webb and veronica johnvae houck in the death in august of 71- year-old young suk sanchez. webb and houck are also charged with kidnapping, robbery and possession and use of stolen credit cards. the victim's decomposing body was found in september by a utility worker in an underground utility vault. houck and webb were arrested in louisiana about two weeks later. governor brian sandoval is telling lawmakers that a 335-million- dollar agreement to bring electric carmaker faraday future to nevada is a good bargain for the state. his lieutenant governor - mark hutchison - agrees. "you're going to have 13,000 employees who are part of the faraday future compnay in the manufacturing process and the venders and the supply chain and you are going to see them in las vegas in those jobs in

this is the office of clark county school district's title one hope program. these workers are collecting thousands of stockings for children.. and registering families to receive them tin the weeks to come. sue goldman title i hope "this year so far we've identified over 10,000 children who have no fixed or stable home. so at christmas time we like to take the neediest of those needy children and try to give them either gifts or stockings just to make the holidays a little bit brighter." the group usually puts together around 35-hundred stockings. the republican presidential candidates are holding their last rallies ahead of the debate here in las vegas next week. we'll tell you about the latest candidate to announce an event here in town. plus, a warning that isis is capable of producing passports. the other piece of i-d that will keep terrorists out. and the names carly fiorina lobbed at donald trump today ... and what the latest poll shows about support for his idea to ban muslims from coming to the us.

that could be used for phony identifications. after the paris attacks, investigators found fraudulent syrian passports on two of the terrorists. but anyone who tries can not just travel to the united states using a passport. they would need a visa.... and in order to get a visa... they would need to be screened by the state department. a short-term spending bill heads to the president's desk as congress buys another five days to keep the government funded. money for the federal government was set to run out at midnight. the spending bill is a last-minute fix that will give lawmakers more time to complete negotiations on a 1-point-1 trillion dollar government-wide spending bill for 2016. the white house says the president will sign the bill.... but won't keep giving congress more time in addition to this to finalize a budget. (josh earnest/ white house press secretary) "an agreement is only produced when both sides compromise. and that means the president will have to compromise a little too. and there will be some things in this bill, presumably some funding levels or

enthusiastically support. but the president's not going to let a disagreement over one issue become a deal breaker over all the others." as for the long- term budget, democrats are blasting republicans saying they're trying to tie in too many policy measures hampering progress towards a long- term deal. republicans want to lift the oil export ban and roll back some obama administration regulations. the republican candidates for president will likely spend much of the weekend prepping for the next g-o-p debate - right here in las vegas tuesday. however - as dianne gallagher reports - they are already going back-and-forth... on the campaign trail. according to a new nbc news/wall street journal poll- 57 percent of american adults oppose the idea....with just 25 percent supporting it. even so.... polls show trump in a solid lead in iowa over his next closest republican rival, senator ted cruz... who- in audio leaked thursday- was heard questioning the frontrunner and ben carson's campaigns. (voice of ted cruz) i believe that gravity will bring both of those campaigns down and i think the lion's share of their supports come to us trump hit back on twitter, saying "he will fall like all others. this weekend - the downtown container park will mark its two- year anniversary. the dining and shopping plaza - made from old shipping containers - offers 38 spaces to businesses. of those - 32 are currently being used - including 14 that have been there from the start - back in 2013. the downtown container park was put together by the downtown project - funded in part by zappos - to help showcase local merchants. there will be a little bit of holiday fun tomorrow as well.
