with abby theodros at umc where the officer was taken. elizabeth watts who lives in the area... and les krifaton with alternate routes to take so you don't get stuck in traffic. but begin with rachel moore live from the scene where police say the suspect... just started shooting at the officer? a very heavy police presence out here. there's metro -- fbi -- swat -- nhp directing traffic. they have air units -- k-9 units surveying this area and within the past couple of hours they have expanded their search area and are now in the 6th hour of this man hunt. this all started at 11 o'clock this morning. two officers responded to a domestic call at the emerald suites weekly motel here on las vegas blvd between agate and serene just six

strip. the suspect wasn't even involved in the domestic dispute confronted the first responding officer with a hand gun. he shot the officer twice: once in the arm and a second time in the vest. the officer was taken to umc. ---sheriff joe lombardo -- he was at a luncheon event nearby -- he heard the suspect description on the radio system -- saw the suspect and began chasininhim into the manhattan apartment complex across las vegas boulevard where the shooting happened and thats when police began setting up their perimeter. " my primary concern at this point is getting a suspect into custody for public saafety and the health of my officer and right now we've accomplished one in that aspect- the oficer is up and talking and seems to be doing well" police say the wounded officer is still in a lot of pain but again is in good spirits and is expected to make a successful recovery. since his transport to the hospital he's gone through a cat scan and received the necessary care

closed captioning will resume it's been a dangerous year for police officers in our valley... with several injured in shootings. on july 10th, a metro officer was grazed in the neck when he was shot during a traffic stop. september 4th, a metro officer responding to a burglary was shot in the leg. 48 hours later, another metro officer was shot in the hand while

intersection. and september 22nd, two north las vegas police officers were shot and injured during a standoff situation. fox five will have the latest on the gunman's arrest.... and the officer's condition.... later in the newscast. you can also stay up to date... at fox five vegas dot com. an attempted robbery at a doctor's office turned deadly for one of the suspect. authorites say a woman and a man walked into the medical office during an appointment and began ransacking the business. the man had a gun - police say he pistol-whipped the doctor and demanded money and possibly drugs. police say a clinic employee grabbed his own gun from his car - confronted the suspects in the parking lot - and shot several times - hitting the woman. "what we learned very quickly was one of the employees during the robbery went out to his vehicle and retrieved a weapon and

they were exiting." the woman was taken to the hospital where she later died. the doctor was also taken to umc with injuries to his face. the man - being described as black between 5-7 and 5-8 - fled the scene. one person was killed in a crash this morning in the far northwest corner of the valley. this was the scene on the 2-15 after 9. you can see a dump truck and a full-size pickup according to the nevada highway patrol .. the driver of the pickup crossed over the center line and hit the dump truck head- on.. killing the driver of the pickup. the driver of the dump truck was not injured. no word yet on what caused the pickup driver to cross over.. or the driver's name. troopers have since re-opened 2- 15. sheldon adelson and his family come clean... about buying the review-journal. the reason given for holding off on the announcement... and how others in the publishing world are reacting>

the family of billionaire sheldon adelson confirmed in a statement to the las vegas review- journal they're the new owners of nevada's largest newspaper. the statement printed on page two of today's

week after the paper was sold for a second time this year at a markup. the owners had remained a mystery until now - with the newspaper's staff and politicians demanding to know the identity of the new boss. the adelsons say they intended to announce their ownership - but held back because tuesday's republican presidential debate was taking place at the venetian - part of adelson's casino empire. adelson - a major gop donor - said at the debate that he had - quote - "no personal interest" in ownership. brian greenspun - the c-e-o and publisher of the las vegas sun says he welcomes the new ownership... and says if adelson makes the review-journal a financial success... it's good for both newspapers. the review journal and the sun have a joint operating agreement. republican presidential candidate ted cruz is leaving las vegas for minnesota... as he launches a seven-day campaign tour through several early primary states. the texas senator spoke this morning - at the siena community center retirement community in summerlin... laying out his plan for what he

in nevada. the swedish furniture retailer is building a massive outlet on 26 acres near 215 and durango. crews say the construction is coming along well. when it's done - it will carry nearly 10-thousand items... and contain three model home interiors... as well as a children's play area and a 450seat restaurant.
