coverage on the investigation tonight. a letter sent home to parents causes some concern. why the district says schools are safe... despite a threat made to them. and the adelson family shares why they waited a week... to announce they are the new owners of nevada's largest newspaper. this is fox5 news at 11. local las vegas. a metro officer is shot in the line of duty... but fortunately, he's on his way to recovering. i'christine maddela. i'm john huck. the man police say pulled the trigger is behind bars. metro says he is 38-year-old teag fox. and police want to know what made fox shoot this veteran officer... since he was not a part of the call the officer was responding to. the shooting happened at the emerald suites on las vegas boulevard and agate this area was closed for about six hours... with people on lockdown inside their homes. we have team coverage for you tonight. abby theodros is live outside umc

is recovering. but first we go to cyndi lundeberg... who's live near the southern highlands golf course... where officers arrested fox ... cyndi. earlier tonight metro pd told me fox was taken into custody without incident. he was being driven by a friend and was the passenger in a mercedes. polcie did whats called a pinch technique and blocked in the car... metro pd says the driver had no idea that fox was the suspect that shot an officer. a metro police officer was shot just after 11 am thursday morning responding to a domestic disturbance call at the emerald suites on las vegas blvd. as he was walking towards the front office there was a verbal exchange with the individual/ and in a very short time the suspect produced a weapon and

no one else was hurt. that "chance encounter" with that armed man this morning... left one officer recovering at the hospital tonight. but thankfully he will be ok. that officer is stable... and receiving treatment at umc. thats where fox5's abby theodros joins us with more on the officer. today likely started like any other weekday for this officer but a call for a domestic dispute ended in gunfire and landed him in the hospital. a 21 year veteran of the metropolitan police department is in recovery at university medical center after a domestic dispute call went awry. it all started late this morning when the unnamed officer responded to the call at emerald suites. that's where a man unrelated to the initial call approached the officer opening fire and shooting him twice in the upper body. the officer shot back -but the shooter was able to flee the scene. he had a pretty substantial injury under his armpit area. the bullet missed his vest and

have to deal with that for some time. late thursday evening the officer was being treated for non life threatening injuries with his wife and son by his side. members of the police force were also standing by - showing their support. : i just came from umc visiting our officer. he was there with his wife and son. he's doing well. he's sitting up and talking. since the shooting - police say the officer has made progress in his healing and is expected to make a full recovery. the name of the officer hasnt been released yet but officials say he is stable and in good spirits. the officer is with family now and will continue treatment for his injuries. the name of an officer involved in a shooting on monday has been released. police say officer

one of the officers investigating a robbery near alexander and walnut. when they found the suspects, another man approached them with a gun. metro says the man refused to drop his weapon, and he aimed it at the officers. police say that's when they shot the suspect, and he died at umc. officer mcgill is 36 years old and has been with metro since 2013. there were two officer involved shootings on monday. the other one was near las vegas boulevard and craig. metro says a woman threatened police with a shotgun. police shot back, killing her. we've seen too many officers injured in shootings this year. fortunately, none of their injuries are life- threatening. on july 10th, a metro officer was grazed in the neck when he was shot during a traffic stop. september 4th, a metro officer responding to a burglary was shot in the leg. 48 hours later, another metro officer was shot in the hand while stopped at an intersection. and september 22nd, two north las vegas police officers were shot and injured

new details to a breaking news story we brought to you last night at 10 and 11. we're learning more about how a medical office employee shot and killed a woman robbing a medical business. this happened around seven last night, near charleston and rancho. metro says a man and woman walked into a medical office during an appointment, and started ransacking it. police say one of the suspects was armed with a handgun, and he pistol-whipped the doctor. a medical employee was able to run out, and their car. that employee saw the suspects coming down the stairs from the office, and fired shots at them. the woman was killed, and the man took off. police say the employee is cooperating with the investigation. if you know anything about the suspect on the run, call crime stoppers at 702- 385-55-55. a driver was killed in a crash this morning. nevada highway patrol says it was caused by a truck driver crossing into the opposite lane of a freeway, and hitting a dump
