the saga surrounding the sale of nevada's largest paper keeps getting stranger. i'm christine maddela. the latest in the story involves the monitoring of a clark county judge who happened to presided over a law suit against the papers new owner. fox5's abby thedros joins us live from the review journal with more. we found out on wednesday that the paper's new owner is sheldon adelson - but the story only gets more complicated. take a look. another day another headline on the secretive sale of nevadas largest news paper. james dehaven [phoner]: its just a very strange story media outlets across the country have commented on how rare and remarkable something like this is to be purchased by mysterious owners when your whole industry is centered on transparency on wednesday -

confusion surrounding who owns their paper - publishing a story naming casino mogul sheldon adelson as the new man in charge. but - as rj reporters would soon find out - the story was just getting started. in an article published friday- rj detailed an unlikely discovery. as the $140 million dollar sale was being finalized - their corporate managers tasked several court reporters with watching the behavior of sevreral reporters including a clark county judge who oversaw a wrongful termination lawsuit against adelson. james dehaven: there was never any insinuation that there was editorial value to this project and so i think it probably did come across as pretty strange to all our reporters on the ground even stranger - the findings were never published by the paper - but an article scrutinizing that judge ended up in a connecticut newspaper linked to adelson. former rj managing editor mary housch says adelsons intentions are very clear. mary housch: mr adelson spent a lot of money for a news paper and hes not a

more about the man police say shot a metro police officer... and sparked a six hour manhunt. 38- year-old teag fox is now at the clark county detention center, charged with attempt murder of a police officer with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied structure among other things. it all started around 11 o'clock thursday morning... when an officer responding to a domestic disturbance call at the emerald suites on las vegas boulevard was shot... but fox had nothing to do with that domestic situation. police tell us he just happened to be in the area and fired at the officer. investigators are still trying to figure out a motive. police finally caught up to fox and arrested him in a gated southern highlands community... fox refused our requst for a jail house interview.... saying he wanted to talk to a lawyer first. he is due in court next week. police are looking for the three men who beat up and critically injured another man at caesars palace last weekend. take a look at the surveillance video. metro police tell us the victim was

when he got in an argument with the three suspects. away, but the men went back and confronted him. suspects hit the man once in the face and then took off. all three men the hotel in what looks like a silver, 2-door infinity, with black rims, and a sunroof. taken to sunrise hospital anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers at 702-385-55-55. a suspected drunk driver causes a crash that leaves a motorcyclist dead. it happened around 3-30 this afternoon near elkhorn and buffalo. police say the driver of a pickup truck tried to turn left in front of the motorcyclist. the 21-year-old rider tried to stop before slamming into the truck's passenger side. police say the motorcyclist died at the scene... and was wearing a

"this is 119 traffic related fatality for year. its tragedy. here we are still talking about holiday season seeing this number reach levels we havent seen in 9 10 years in this valley." police say the 49- year-old driver failed a field sobriety test. he was arrested on a felony d-u-i count. police are also looking into if speed was a factor as well. a suspect driving a stolen car led police on a short chase through a valley neighborhood. "good investigative police work. had air unit watching incident from eyes in the sky." officers attempted to pull over the stolen car around 8-30 this morning near lamb and boulder highway. the driver kept going -- and eventually got out of the car near washington and jones. police say the suspect hid in a

perimeter in the neighborhood. the suspect was arrested a few hours later. a house fire left one cat dead and one person injured. around 4-30 this single story home and the 95. ten units from clark county fire department and las vegas fire and rescue responded to the scene after reports of an explosion. in less than fifteen minutes -- firefighters were able to put out the flames. one woman was able to get out of the house -- but then she was bit by a dog. a cat was found dead inside of the home -- along with another person with burn injuries. restaurant uses humor to spread the word about three suspects who broke into their business. "frijoles and frescas" edited this surveillance video of the recent break-in near charleston and rainbow. it was shared on facebook... and shows one of the men breaking the door in... then they grab the cash registers. the business says quote "these nice gentleman were looking for tacos -- we think"... and "we take full responsibility for what our tacos cause people to do." the restaurant's owner says they appreciate the community's support. "the reaction is really good by community. we have a lot of people who come to restaurant to support us." police say these men also hit several other businesses in the area... and they are investigating this as a serious crime. christmas gifts for families in need in our valley were stolen a week before their holiday party. donations for the "the ogden foundation" were

the u-f-c gym near eastern and horizon ridge. the non-profit was founded by football hall of famer jonathan ogden and his wife. they teamed up with the gym to offer programs to foster and homeless kids. the christmas supplies and program equipment were packed in a trailer behind the facility... and were going to be handed out to title-one schools and families in need during the holidays. it's part of their "adopt a family event". so far -- the community has rallied together to help with donations. "we've been able to supply families with toys presents gifts for whole family but food clothes things like bicycles and kitchen ware. the list goes on and on." "its really nice to give back. and some of kids behind me are new to start this year. but they are really liking it." the non-profit says the trailer was locked up with a hitch and attached to a truck.

the suspect in the south west part of our valley and he was taken into custody without incident" it was before noon when metro officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the area. police tell us fox was in no way related to their investigation at the time of the shooting... " there was an exchange between the officer and the suspect, they ultimately exchanged gunfire, and our officer was hit by the suspects gunfire" the officer, who's name will be released by officials at a later time, was shot wice, once in his vest and again in the arm. joe ellis, witness " he was injured, it looked like all of the cops were trying to tend to him, trying to make sure he was ok, they had everything blocked off." the suspect fled the scene after the shooting, he was arrested just before 5 pm in a gated community in southern highlands... a police source told fox5 that fox made a call to be picked up from a gas station nearby, he was then taken to the community in the southern highland area... the same source tells us fox's weapon was recovered from a house in that community, neighbors of the area who asked not to appear on camera told fox5 they saw dozens of police cars all around their neighborhood, they also saw officers leaving a nearby house carrying

threatening an attack on the u-s. the former chicago officer charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of a teen,... makes a court appearance. a chicago judge setting bail at one-point-five million dollars for officer jason van dyke... van dyke's pearance comes after his indictment by a grand jury earlier this week... the officer is facing six counts of first-degree murder and one for official misconduct in the teenager's death... prosecutors say van dyke shot mcdonald 16 times as the teen walked away from police carrying a small knife. across the city-- protestors were out in full force. while officer van dyke was in court... protestors set up shop outside the court house... and then targeted travelers at midway airport...by blocking traffic there. the democratic presidential race has been relatively civil so far this campaign season... but now there are allegations of a data breach. as reid binion
