is this a hate crime? police are investigating this question after a local mosqe's goor handles are covered in bacon! sound of falling k-o'd by a pink hoverboard! the champ - mike tyson - learns the hard way just how dangerous hoverboards can be. this is fox5 news at 6. local. las vegas a henderson father is dead - and the accused killer - his 21 year old son. i'm elizabeth watts .. john and christine have the night off. police are still trying to find out what lead to the post christmas shooting. fox 5's ophelia young is at the henderson police department where the investigation continues. this is a mysterious case because the man was reported missing yesterday afternoon - but was found later at the same house. they believe it started with a

"it was reported that he had left the home and so at that point our officers were focused on looking outside of the home." the call came in from a family member - 68 year old mbayi ngenza was missing. police arrived at the home on fox moore court near paseo verde parkway to take the report - and then spread out to look for the father. but they were called back to the same home a few hours later. "they had some additional information and when our investigators and officers searched the homes they found the victim who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound." ngenza was dead. after questioning the family - the police found out... "the victim and his son eugene tshiyombo had fought the evening before." eugene mbayi tshiyombo - 21 years old. what would lead a son to kill his own father after christmas - henderson police are trying to learn more about the sunday night argument that led to this domestic homicide.

booked tshyombo on an open murder charge tuesday night. this is henderson's fourth murder this year - french says no murder is good - but people living in henderson can take comfort that they have all been domestic and not random. "its one of those things where we do have the four homicides that we have this year but they are domestic related and that's a good thing and that henderson residents do take their safety seriously. there is still much more to this case we're working to confirm - such as which family member made that initial missing person call - was it the suspect - where exactly was the body found. those are all details henderson police say they can't release yet because it's all still under investigation. reporting live. the suspect has been booked into henderson detention center. north las vegas police have made an arrest in a

this month. police have vernon newson junior in custody for killing a 28- year old woman on december 13th. the woman was found shot multiple times and left in a car on the on-ramp to i-15 near lamb. police found newson junior in southern california.. and are working to get him extradited back to nevada. metro police are looking into a possible hate crime after a man wrapped strips of bacon on the door handles at a spring valley mosque. and it was all caught on camera. fox5's abby theodros got a look at the surveillance video and joins us live near jones and flamingo with the latest. members of this mosque came to worship early sunday and were greeted with raw bacon on the door handles of the building. while it was surprising - they say they're relieved more permanent damage wasn't done. a man brazenly walks up to a spring valley mosque and wraps strips of bacon on the door handles.this is the aftermath. fayyaz raja, mosque goer: he knew there was a camera there. he even looked at us. i was really surprised at why a

it happened sunday around 3 in the morning. just a few short hours after the vandal left the building -mosque goers found the pork on the entrance handle - putting their plans to pray to a halt. raja: the muslim community - they're concerened about this kind of a situation but i think we are very peace, loving people and i don't see any concern police on the other hand are investigating the possibility of a hate crime. pork is forbidden in islam - making it off limits to eat or even touch. danny amster co-owns the genral contracting company that shares a parking lot with the mosque. he says he too found bacon on his company's doors and windows and says its awful that someone would resort to such a hateful act. danny amster: any way you slice it - it's a stupid and hateful act. i mean what purpose does it serve? the whole thing i mean it's just ridiculous. the situation comes amid religious tensions surrounding the

like the one in san bernardino. meanwhile -in las vegas - muslim leaders like fayaaz raja say his mosque is open to all. raja: i would love to talk to him. i would love to sit down. bring him to our congregation and meet him. see why he did that. police say this investigation is stll open and they havent identified a vandal yet. reporting live abby theodros fox55news police say they are investigating after finding a man shot dead inside a car in the parking lot of a las vegas gym. investigators say someone in 24 hour fitness called 911 after people in the parking lot heard at least one gunshot. officers arrived to find the body of a man in his 30s. las vegas police luitenant dan mcgrath says officers have black and white surveillance video from 24 hour fitness that shows what happened.

came in, parked next to the vehicle, looks like somebody gets out of the car, there's one shot fired that we know of, and then the small 2-door car leaves by this exit here and goes back onto rainbow." the car the victim was in has california license plates.. but it's not known if the driver was from out of state or not. investigators are not yet saying if the man was targeted in this shooting. a judge set a january 7th court date for the woman accused of shooting her husband dead in front of a 9- year-old boy on christmas eve in a downtown las vegas hotel room. maria escalante wasn't asked to enter a plea this morning to murder and child abuse charges in the slaying of 48- year-old david cordova of north las vegas. polcie arrested 34-year-old escalante shortly after the shooting at the plaza hotel and casino. she's being held without bail. police say the boy was opening holiday presents when cordova was shot in the chest. the boy wasn't hurt. police have not said what they believe her motive in the shooting to be. a 20-year-old man now faces 12 to 40 years in prison

guilty to driving under the influence of drugs in a crash that killed a 6- year-old girl and her grandmother at a las vegasasus stop. leonardo ruesga pleaded guilty today to two counts of dui causing death. the crash happened at the end of march. blood tests showed ruesga had marijuana and methamphetamine in his system. sentencing is set for the middle of february. the nevada department of transportation wants to light your drive better along one of our busiest stretches of interstate. over the next month, n-dot will be replacing all the lights along interstate 15 between downtown las vegas and jean. it is replacing the aging sodium bulbs with brighter l-e-d lamps. n-dot will do the work during the night .. so hopefully it will not affect your drivetime. it's costing the state 1-point-2 million dollars to switch out the bulbs. ahead tonight .. a look at the terrible situation many people in the midwest are in tonight as the mississippi river overflows its banks. and see what happens when a man flys his drone too close to the

live from las vegas. you're watching fox5 news at six. with emmy award winner john huck. christine maddela. and weather 24/7 with chief meteoroligist ted pretty. this is fox5 news at 6 o'clock. local las vegas. protests over recent police shootings reached the door of chicago's mayor today. demonstrators set up outside of the home of mayor rahm emanuel. this, after the shooting deaths of 19-year-old quintonio legrier and his 55-year-old mother bettie jones by police. a crowd... chanted and demanded the resignation of the

"he waited until we were fed up. so, rahm emanuel, you are too far in the hole. you're too far in the hole and i don't think you can get back out. we need you to resign and we need you to resign now." the mayor has been plagued by controversy in recent months. many citizens say emanuel has not done enough to stop or investigate the violence. one person is dead after a small plane crashes into a building in downtown anchorage, alaska this morning. there are no reports of other injuries on the ground. there were reports of strong winds when the plane clipped the corner of an office building before smashing into the side of a another building. one witness said the it didn't sound like the plane was having engine trouble before the crash. a drone gets a little too close to president obama's motorcade. secret service stepped in when a small drone appeared near the motorcade while the obama family was on vacation in hawaii. according to secret service, the man flying the drone was unaware that the

no charges were filed. president obama was on his way to play a round of golf. the death toll from historic flooding in missouri continues to grow. the death toll now stands at 13. five of those deaths are international soldiers whose car washed away in flooding over the weekend. water levels along the mississippi are expected to crest at numbers similar or above records set back in 19-93. the governor pledged state support to help missouri counties monitor levees and river levels from the air. we are getting a close look of the tornado damage that devastated the texas town of garland. this video was taken by a drone. the national weather service says an e-f-four tornado struck garland over the weekend. such a twister has wind gusts that can reach 200 miles an hour. authorities say eight people were killed in garland from the storm, while hundreds of structures were damaged. texas governor greg abbott declared a disaster in four dallas-area counties. controversial police shootings... and more scandal. 20-15 seems like a year of history repeating. mary moloney looks at the national stories that made headlines this year this was a tragically recurring scene during 20-15. crowds fleeing another mass shooting. from a military center in chattanooga... to a college campus in roseburg, oregon... then a mass shooting at a health center in san bernardino that authorities say may have been inspired by isis. president obama called it an act of terrorism. (president obama): "the threat from terrorism is real. but we will overcome it." in roanoke... two journalists were killed when a gunman opened fire during their live report. and in charleston a shooting at a black church reignited a long simmering national debate over the confederate flag. the palmetto state voted to remove the flag from the state capitol for the first time in 54 years.

to charleston with rallies happening in country protesters were outraged by the police killings of unarmed black men like freddie gray, jamar clark and walter scott. june saw two from the supreme states. court saved the affordable care act. ruled that same-sex couples can marry nationwide. (nats) while many cheered the 5-4 ruling some sharply disagreed. in a small kentucky town a clerk of the court sat behind bars for preventing her office from issuing marriage licenses. kim davis made headlines again when she publicly announced she'd had a private meeting with pope francis during his visit to the united states. the holy father made stops in philadelphia, new york, and washington d-c making history as the first pope to address congress. (pope francis): "god bless america." a report from congress accused japanese auto parts manufacturer takata of putting profits ahead of safety.

firefighters put out the flames... a witness captured this video inside the deerbrook mall... there are no reports of injuries. the consumer product safety commission put out a statement saying they are investigating the cause .. which also includes more than 20 other hoverboard fires in 17 states. and as if the hoverboard toys wern't in teh headlines enough with fires .. they are now also being blamed for injuries. even heavyweight champ mike tyson fell victim.. "i don't want you to fall. (sound of fall)" ouch! no word on if he really injured himself. but videos of people wiping out on hoverboards
