already here in vegas celebrating, thousands more are expected to come in tomrrow just in time for the fire works that welcome 2016... live from the las vegas strip, miguel martinez- valle, fox5 news local. las vegas. the consumer electronics show starts this weekend... the first convention of the new year.. 165 thousand people are expected to come to town just for that, giving us a huge start to 2016... national guard soldiers are helping local law enforcement in case of an emergency. 40 nevada national guard soldiers will be at mccarran through new year's to give law enforcement more flexibility. having them here makes response time quicker should anything happen tomorrow night. earlier this month, governor brian sandoval approved the request to have one hundred additional national guard troops on hand to help... "if they see anything out of the ordinary, talk to national guard, talk to metro, the best way anyone can help is to say something is they

suspicious." metro police also have a few dozen more guard members supporting their efforts over the next couple days throughout the valley. for the first time ever - the las vegas monorail will be open for 44 hours straight. the special hours are for new years eve. it will be open from seven tomorrow morning until saturday at its usual three in the morning. the monorail is the only form of motorized transportation that will be available on the strip. at about 5-45 tomorrow evening the streets will be closed off to cars new year's. the monorail has five stations along the las vegas strip - from the m-g-m grand to the s-l-s. "we're going to be open for 44 hours straight, so folks don't have to worry about curfew to get to that last train to be able to get home. we'll be running continuously throughout new year's eve and new year's day." locals are offered a special deal on new year's eve.... with only one dollar tickets for rides on the

a man was arrested after a deadly stabbing that happened last night. gianni raneri was taken into custody by police around one this morning. metro says he was upset over his girlfriend leaving him -- and was jealous that she had been spending time with someone else. he approached the two in an apartment complex off of swenson and twain, and there was an argument. gianni raneri came back hours later and stabbed the man. "a witness and a securtiy guard then chased the suspect who was still holding the knife about a block away. and the security guard then pepper sprayed him and handcuffed him nearby." raneri was booked for murder with a deadly weapon early this morning. a person's body was discovered today by a group of hikers. and one of them called fox five to tell us what he saw. n-h-p confirms the body was found along highway 160 near mile marker 22... on the way to pahrump. metro police are investigating this case... and they haven't released many details. jeff thomas says

his kids, when they came across the body hidden among some rocks. he tells us there were bones, clothes, and a variety of the person's personal items. " he did have an old nevada id, cash on him, grocery store savings cards, some cigarettes, a lighter. i turned that all over to police." thomas also tells us there was an eviction notice with the body. the coroner will release the person's name and how they died. a local couple's car was broken into... and the burglar took the registration and the garage door opener. and hours later, they believe the suspect showed up at their home! fox 5's cyndi lundeberg spoke to the homeowners.. and shows you how quickly you could become a victim. this couple is scared tonight... they say their sense of security has been stolen... i also talked to the metro police department they

situation frequently happens... so here's what the buglar does... they break the car window... in this care they broke into through the passenger side window... opened the glove box and took the cars regristration... or take house keyes whatever they can... so now they not only know where you live... they have a way in... this north las vegas couple is scared after their car was broken into... their registration with their home address was aken... and then a man showed up at their front door... show their faces.. "i noticed things from my glove box had been removed and i noticed my regristration and insurance card were missing we did notice the garage clicker was left on the viser in my vehicle i immediately grabbed it and put it in my purse " the family says at first they didn't know there was a problem with their garage clicker... theodros has details of the report and what the findings. carrison: 3 and 6 you can say the influence of marijuana when you're tested for doctor dale carrison with university medical center is talking not the amount of drugs found in lakeisha holloway's blood could mean she was under the dr. dale carrison, umc: it may mean something they may not mean anything. it's very difficult and there is no real medical consensus on when you're under the influence or not. in a statement from clark county district attorney steve wolfson .. he writes the amount found in her bloos does not change the charges he's filing against her. carrison went on to say there is no concrete scale to determine the level of use or if drugs played a role in this deadly crash - but there is one thing the toxicology report shows... carrison: we know that sometime within the last 12- 24 hours she did in fact smoke marijuana she had a large amount of metabolites in her blood.those metabolites are only there if you have acute use. her metabolite level - or the level at which the drug is processed by your body - was about 24 nanograms per milileter.

toxicology expert ... and this shows she used the drug within hours before the crash. regardless - officials have called holloway's actions intentional and say the results of the toxicology test will not change the initial charges filed. at f5n llv defense attorney joseph abood says the levels are low and don't prove holloway was impaired in any way. her next court date is scheduled in january. a young child is the first pediatric flu death reported in our valley this season. say it's an important reminder to do what you can, to protect yourself and your kids. "the biggest thing is getting the flu vaccine, both the adults and the children. the adults can typically bring it home to the children if they are at home do to a medical issue." a woman over the age of 50 has also died due to causes related to the flu. health officials say flu season typically peaks in january and february and there is still time

one of the hottest gifts of the season are hover-boards - but they can be dangerous when not used properly. "one thing i think we need to always be safe with is head safety. there's so much that can happen with a head injury and we want to keep everyone's head protected." fyzical - a physical therapy and balance center - is opening up its doors to those who want to learn how to use their hover- board. they are strapping people into harnesses and letting them practice so they don't have to worry about falling. they are also looking into using hover-boards as a physical therapy tool for balance patients in the future. "getting that sort of neuromuscular control learning when to lean forward when to turn your hips. it can be a great physical therapy tool if we can learn how to use it that way." they don't currently have any practices in place where they use hover-boards as physical therapy.... but now that they have a hover- board at their facility -- they are looking into using it for higher level

one man was hurt in a house fire this morning. a single story home near craig and m-l-k caught fire around seven. north las vegas firefighters say it appears the man was injured trying to escape the flames.

u-m-c. the next door neighbor called the fire department after she saw smoke and fire billowing out of the building. "the guy who lived there he was in the back yard he was really confused somebody had to go back there and get him and they took him to the hospital for smoke inhalation." the next door neighbor ran over to the burning home after calling police. she banged on the door in case someone was inside... and ran away when a window busted from the fire. "operation heat" strikes again -- this time helping a family of three after a tragic fire. "many times the firefighters who are at that fire only get to see the tragedy and they don't get to see the first step of walking away from that tragedy and that's what's awesome about this, not only does it benefit the family it benifits the firefighters who were actually there." the "holiday emergency assistance team" helped the "youts" family after their apartment was destroyed in a fire last week -- just a few days before christmas. they took the family shopping for basic necessities and even brought their two year old daughter christmas

2015. fox5's miguel martinez-valle has those details. were still hours away from ringing in the new year and people from all over the world are already out here in las vegas celebrating the end of 2015 and the begining of the new year... around 332 thousand people are expected in sin city to ring in the new year, its these visitors that helped push the city to record breaking numbers... las vegas will have welcomed more than 42 million people by the time 2016 roles around... thats more than the 41 million we welcomed last year... " 42 million is the best visitation that weve had since weve been keeping record, this is even better than pre recession times." finale its what we call titanium salutes.' the finale - in his hands now - up 2 hundred and 80 feet on midnight new years eve. the day before - henry rman carefully places every one of these firework shells filled with black powder in their rightful tubes and wires them to a panel. "the wires might get tangled in another wire might pull it out of the panel little things like that." precision precision... to make sure every one of the 80 thousand effects over seven casino roof tops fire. nat sound henry even places tape over them. "so we dont even have to look inside the tubes at all we just see if the tape is gone if the tape is open then the shell went up in the air." henry has worked on every one of the last 15 new years eve fireworks shows put on by phil grucci in las vegas. "the clock ticks very slowly on new year's eve for us."

" "in that video you didn't see me shooting at nothing!" judge (to bailif) "come get the duct tape out. if he talks out again i want him duct taped." you heard that right... the judge threatened to duct-tape joshua bacharach's mouth for speaking out of turn. police say he shot at a metro officer back in 2014. luckily no one was hurt... and a k-9 officer tracked him down. bacharach was given a sentence of 62 to 157 years in prison, and a 75 thousand dollar fine. on to national news now...

publically accused cosby of raping or assaulting them over the past 40 years he has never faced a single criminal charge.. until today. the actor was arraigned in pennsylvania on aggravated indecent assault charges that date back to 2004. jean casarez reports. bill cosby.. surrounded by media.. looking frail in a gray sweater.. carrying a cane.. arm and arm with his attorneys.. he stumbled on his way into a pennsylvania courthouse. natsot reporters: "mr. cosby, anything to say?" inside.. standing room only.. cosby was guided to the defense table. after his arraignment.. the 78-year-old had his mug shot taken.. bail .. set at one million dollars. (kevin steele, first assistant district attorney): "these charges stem from a sexual assault that took place on an evening in early 2004 at mr. cosby's home." cosby is charged with assaulting andrea constand - at the time, a temple university employee. she considered cosby - 37 years her

" no charges were filed back then.. the district attorney evidence due to the year-long delay. but constand quickly filed a civil suit.. which resulted in a confidential settlement agreement with cosby. constand, the first of some 50 women to have come forward. he and his attorneys have repeatedly denied the allegations against him...today issuing a strong statement in his defense..
