"we'll be ready, definitely, were english people were ready for it." some people are saving their energy for tomorrow night, others have been celebrating for a while... " we've been partying for like three weeks solid. and i'm feeling good today..." and while theyre celebrating the new year... the city is celebrating the new record. " there's a lot to celebrate here in las vegas, we've reached 42 million visitors for the year for 2015, and that beats our previous record of last year of 41.1 million people." after seeing the highest number of visitors since las vegas started keeping track, the city is raising their

electronics show is this weekend. 165 thousand people are expected to come to town just for that, giving us a huge start to the new year... the las vegas monorail will have different hours for the first time ever for new years eve. the monorail will be open for 44 hours straight for the next couple of days. it will be open from 7 a-m tomorrow until saturday at its usual 3 a-m. the monorail is the only form of motorized transportation that will be available on the strip. at about 5-45 p-m tomorrow the streets will be closed off to cars new year's eve. the monorail has five stations along the las vegas strip - from the m-g-m grand to the s-l-s. "we carry so many people on new year's eve. and even at 3 am when we're starting to cycle everyone

large crowds there's still people who want to use the system." locals also get a very special discount on new year's eve. tickets for the monorail are just one dollar when you present your local i-d. the national guard will be at mccarren airport until new year's day. 40 nevada national guard members will be at mccarren to give law enforcement more flexibility. having them here makes response time quicker should anything happen tomorrow night. earlier this month, governor brian sandoval also approved the request to have one hundred additional national guard troops on hand to help. "if they see anything out of the ordinary, talk to national guard, talk to metro, the best way anyone can help is to say something is they see something suspicious." metro police also have a few dozen more guard members supporting their efforts over the next couple days throughout the valley. tomorrow night - las vegas will host the biggest fireworks show in the country. fox5's ophelia young shows us how it takes an entire year, to

say this kind of situation frequently happens... so here's what the buglar does... they break the car window... in this care they broke into through the passenger side window... opened the glove box and took the cars regristration... or take house keyes whatever they can... so now they not only know where you live... they have a way in... this north las vegas couple is scared after their car was broken into... their registration with their home address was aken... and then a man showed up at their front door... they asked we not show their faces.. "a witness and a securtiy guard then chased the suspect who was still holding the knife about a block away. and the security guard then pepper sprayed him and handcuffed him nearby." gianni raneri was arrested around one this morning. metro says he was upset over his girlfriend leaving him. he approached her and another man in an apartment complex off of swenson and twain and an argument followed. police say gianni raneri later came

the man. a group of hikers came across a body today. and one of them called fox5 to tell us about the discovery. n-h-p confirms the body was found along highway 160 near mile marker 22... on the way to pahrump. metro police are investigating this case... and they haven't released many details. jeff thomas says he was hiking with his kids, when they came across the body hidden among some rocks. he tells us there were bones, clothes, and a variety of the person's personal items. " there was no skin, nothing like that left on it. bones, clothes, skull was white as snow, it had been picked clean. " thomas also tells us there was an eviction notice with the body. the coroner will release the person's name and how they died. the woman accused of driving her car into a on the strip... had marijuana in her system when it happened.

details on the report and what experts are saying about the findings. carrison: somewhere between 3 and 6 you can say that you're under the influence of marijuana when you're tested for that. doctor dale carrison with university medical center is talking about whether or not the amount of drugs found in lakeisha holloway's blood could mean she was under the infulence. dr. dale carrison, umc: it may mean something they may not mean anything. it's very difficult and there is no real medical consensus on when you're under the influence or not. in a statement from clark county district attorney steve wolfson .. he writes the amount found in her blood does not change the charges he's filing against her. carrison went on to say there is no concrete scale to determine the level of use or if drugs played a role in this deadly crash - but there is one thing the toxicology report shows... carrison: we know that sometime within the last 12-

one man hurt this morning. it happened near craig and m-l-k. a single story home on terrace point drive caught fire around 7 a-m. north las vegas firefighters say it appears the man was injured trying to escape the flames - and taken to u-m-c. the next door neighbor called the fire department after she saw smoke and fire billowing out

"the guy who lived there he was in the back yard he was really confused somebody had to go back there and get him and they took him to the hospital for smoke inhalation." the next door neighbor ran over to the burning home after calling police. she banged on the door in case someone was inside. after a window busted, she ran and waited for emergency responders. nevada lawmakers pass regulations for a school choice program. the program allows families to claim a majority of their child's per- pupil state education funding and apply it toward things like private school tuition. students must attend public school for at least 100 days before they can qualify. the regulations spell out details of the program - and also exempt military families and kindergartners from the 100-day requirement. now fox5 weather 24..7. with chief meteorologist ted pretty we stay close to freezing through sunday morning with highs around 50 degrees. north
