after celebrating new years weekend still others are just getting to town, theyre here for the first convention of the year, the consumers electronic show, and as you can see the city was ready to greet them... badges and all. the new year celebrations are over and thousands of visitors took to the sky and the roads to go home after spending some time in vegas... the i-15 was packed with people making their way to california... it seems a few drivers couldnt handle the traffic so they decided to make their own route... but those attempted shortcuts came at a price when law enforcement got involved... just as people left the valley, thousands more flocked to the city for the first big convention of the year." " we get between 150, 175 thousand people from the tech profession here during the course of ces and more than a quarter of those are international professionals from all over the world." while the international consumer electronics show doesnt officially start until wednesday, early arrivals have already landed in mccarran airport from all over the

until saturday. about 20- thousand technology products are being debuted during the show. two suspects behind bars in connection to a homicide outside a 24-hour fitness last week. 27-year-old kyle staats and 19- year-old megan hippie were arrested saturday. police say a man was sitting in his car outside the gym parking lot near rainbow and alta... when another vehicle pulled up. employees and gym members heard at least one gunshot. officers found the victim's vehicle rolled into a parking median and the driver's side window shattered. he died at the scene. both suspects face charges of first degree murder and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon. staats has also been charged for possession of a stolen vehicle. it does not appear the victim went inside 24-hour fitness. no word yet on a motive. an elderly man was killed riding a segway over the weekend. the accident happened around seven saturday night in a neighborhood near rancho and craig. police say the man was riding the eletric two- wheeler when he fell. he died from his injuries where it happened. the coroner says

prosecution of two ranchers -- and occupy federal land in oregon. one of the protesters -- the son of cliven bundy from nevada. they have vowed to stay there indefinitely. jeremy roth shows us why they're supporting the ranchers who face extended prison time. nat pop a group of armed protesters have taken over a building in a federal wildlife refuge in oregon. resources." taking of the people's land and resources." nat pop reportedly started after protesters and militia members converged on the burns, oregon saturday -- to show support for dwight and steven hammond -- father and son ranchers jailed on an arson conviction back in 2001. prosecutors said the hammonds set a nearly 130 acres to cover up poaching. the father served three months... the son, one year. but a judge ruled their terms were too short under federal law and ordered them back to prison. (dwight hammond / convicted of arson) "i'm going to prison for five years for 127? seems like a bit of an overkill to me." the hammonds are scheduled to begin their 5 year prison sentence monday. i'm jeremy roth reporting. the attorney for the hammond family sent a statement to the harney county sheriff.

bundy nor anyone within his group or organization speak for the hammond family" end quote. nevada energy regulators meet this week to decide if they should hold off on new solar power rates. the "public utilities commission" set a hearing thursday to consider pausing the new rates for customers. they were supposed to take effect january first. the changes would raise the base service charge for customers in southern nevada from around thirteen dollars to nearly eighteen dollars per month. they will also reduce the amount of utility pays to buy power back from rooftop solar panels. the service charge would rise and the reimbursement will drop every year until 20-20. it's been a warmer start to the new year... but there may be some rain in store for the valley this week. les is here with his first look at weather. a series of storms are bearing down on us as we head into the first week of 2016. the first system monday isn't expected to bring us

"a few months ago, i directed my team at the white house to look into any new actions i can take to help reduce gun violence. and on monday, i'll meet with our attorney general, loretta lynch, to discuss our options. because i get too many letters from parents, and teachers, and d ds, to sit around and do nothing." sources say president obama is expected to announce new executive action soon expanding background checks on gun sales...aimed called gun show loophole ... which sellers to avoid conducting a background check. gun control advocates have also pushed the white house to tighten regulations on the reporting of lost and want the president to prevent more alleged domestic passengers on the no fly list from buying guns. president has even announced the details of his

an onerous burden on anybody." a recent c-n-n poll shows a majority do not support stricter gun control laws or the president's handling of guns. but another survey says a majority support requiring background checks for all gun buyers. a north carolina pastor confronts a gunman during his sermon... and the pastor may have saved the lives of his entire congregation. pastor larry wright was talking about gun violence in his community... when police say a man walked into the church carrying a rifle and magazine of ammunition. the pastor walked up to the gunman and asked "can i help you". the man asked the pastor to pray for him. wright took the rifle out of his hand... hugged the gunman then prayed with him. the pastor says the man committed his life to jesus... then apologized to those inside the church. he said he wanted to hurt someone... but felt he should seek help within the church. police arrived during the incident... and arrested the man. he was voluntarily committed to a mental health facility.
