thanks for joining us for your only local news at 5:30. let's get you up to date with the latest local headlines. an activation and deployment ceremony at mandalay bay this morning - as national guard members of nevada's 17th sustainment brigade offically began a tour of duty that will last one year. fox5's les krifaton was there and joins us from the newsroom to tell us about the ceremony - which was attended by governor brian sandoval. the families and friends of 250 members of our national guard, may have been stressed about the year ahead but they were also proud of what the guard will be assigned to do the next year. governor brian sandoval told the audience and guard members that the state of nevada and the country are proud and grateful for their service there is no easy way to say goodbye to loved ones as they prepare to leave to go to the middle east. these national guard members are the latest to be deployed from nevada, joining a military police unit that was deployed last year. governor brian sandoval participated in the ceremony and was beaming about the way the families

dealing with this tour. if you attended the ceremony all the children of those being deployed came down and there must have been over a hundred of them. so it really brings home the importance of the nevada family taking care of all of them. we also have to appreciate the employers for allowing the men and women of the guard to be able to deploy overseas." so these 250 17th sustainment based out of kuwait but will also be supporting operations in jordan, qatar, united arab emirates and iraq. the first leg of the national guard's deployment will be in texas at fort hood - for about a month of additional traning - and then it's off to the middle east. this week senator harry reid is hosting an event here in las vegas - featuring all three democratic candidates for president. it's the first in the west caucus dinner at the mgm

professionals in the tech and electronics industry are arriving in las vegas this week. they're taking part in the "international c- e-s" trade show - which officially begins wednesday at the convention center. however- electric car company "faraday future" is getting ahead of the action - unveiling a new concept - tonight at eight o'clock. no word on any details. the company would just say the concept was inspired by its design and engineering vision.

nevada lawmakers approved a 335- million dollar deal to bring a "faraday future" factory to north las vegas. it's expected to generate 45- hundred jobs... and nine-thousand in-direct jobs. 400-million dollars. that's how much the next powerball winner could possibly win this week. on saturday - three- contestants each won a million dollars. someone else won two-million. many others won smaller prizes - but no one bought the grand prize- winning ticket. the next chance to win is wednesday. officials say the chances of winning the big prize is about one in 300-million. powerball is illegal here in nevada - but tickets are available just across the sta line at primm - in california... or arizona. general motors - is joining forces with lyft. how a big-money investment... could help make self- driving cars... part of the ride- sharing service. and - what donald trump is doing to try and secure victory - less than one month away

following the lead of saudi arabia - and cutting diplomatic ties with iran. they include bahrain and sudan... as well as the united arab emirates - who is recalling its ambassador from tehran. this started with saudi arabia's execution of a prominent shiite cleric - one of nearly four dozen people put to death there over the weekend. outraged iranians stormed the saudi embassy in tehran. the protests continue - along with angry rhetoric between the two countries. "since saudi arabia sees not only its interests, but also its survival in the continuation of tensions, therefore it has used this issue as another excuse to increase tension and conflict." iran says more than 40 protesters were arrested - and expressed regret over the violence. president obama says the path is clear... for executive orders

the race is now a sprint, with candidates on both sides hitting iowa and new hampshire, trying to win over voters with just weeks to go before things get real. and on the first big campaigning day of 2016, the big debut of hillary clinton's not-so-secret weapon. (former president bill clinton) i don't fit anymore. first of all, i'm a happy grandfather and i'm not mad at anybody. the former president spoke fondly of his wife, her softer side, and her early career achievements and, while bill clinton didn't address donald trump's recent attacks on past infidelities, he did drop a few veiled swipes in his new hampshire speech. general motors is making a half-a- million-dollar investment in ride-hailing company lyft. as part of the big deal... g-m will work to develop an autonomous on-demand network for self-driving cars. the companies will also set up short-term car rental hubs across the u-s. at the hubs - people who don't own cars can pick one up - so they can work as lyft drivers. as part of the investment... g-m's president will also become a board member of lyft. if you like how gas prices ended last year... you'll be pleased with the forecast for 2016. triple-a says the price at the pump will stay relatively low this year. it estimates an average price between 2-25 and 2-45 a gallon. last year's average was two dollars, 40 cents per gallon. less demand in january could push prices even lower - perhaps another 10 cents in coming weeks. the auto club does say a bit of a price increase is likely next month due to refinery maintenance. now fox5 weather 24/7, with chief meterologist ted

you can now smell like the russian leader with just a few sprays. a new perfume inspired by russian president vladimir putin is hitting the market in moscow. it's called "leaders number one" and comes in a black glass bottle with putin's profile on it. it's selling for around ninety-five dollars. the perfume contains hints of lemon, blackcurrant and fir cones. but - not everyone was interested in trying the perfume. some even said it smelled cheap. the product is the latest addition to a large putin- themed collection of goods... like t- shirts, mugs, posters and books aimed at boosting putin's public perception. thanks for joining us.. fox5 news at 6 o'clock is straight
