john christine the press conference last about 30 minutes and we found out a lot of new information... this was the 16th officer involved shooting... this is video from the officers body camera... one of the officers failed to enact his.. metro police say they believe keith childress was fleeing to avoid a lengthy prison sentence after missing his last court appearance... his court warrant noted he was armed and dangerous.. one of the officers 18 years on the service... 1 year... they say one officer fired 4 rounds the other 5... they say keith childress was hit by 5 rounds... i thought this was interesting because i went to the area and counted more than a dozen holes in multiple homes ... officers say they opened fire because they believed he was wanted for attempted murder.. and say they gave him 24 commands before opening fire ... 24 verbal commands they say childress went up near a home.. and they couldn't see what was doing... they say they gave him commands like drop the weapon...

then advanced on the officers... and that's when they opened fire... i spoke to the family today they saw the video and say they're furious.. they say the body camera fails to show keith they say they couldn't see him at all and they say the video they saw does not hold all the answers they're looking for. on this story... coming up later news at ten. a california man was sleeping in his car outside of a local gym before an armed robber shot him to death. that's according to an arrest report for 27- year-old kyle staats. police say this surveillance shows the suspects car with staats and 19-

a tip led officers to hippie, who admitted she was with staats looking for cars to burglarize in the early morning hours of december 29th. she says staats saw neil gandler asleep in his car... before getting out of the car with a gun... and breaking gandler's window. she says she then heard him say "don't do it" then the sound of a gunshot. staats and hippie are now both behind bars facing murder and attempted robbery among other charges. the cost of power is going down in the new year for nv energy customers. on january first, the power company dropped rates for the third quarter in a row... which should mean a more than 5- percent break on your next bill. nv energy attributes the reduction in costs with money saved in fuel and a disciplined management of puchased power. the 148 dollar bill per month for a typical southern nevada home should see about a 6-dollar and 80- cent break in this latest rate decrease. 250 members of our nevada national guard said goodbye to

country. the governor joined thousands of families and friends at the mandalay bay events center to say goodbye to the 250 men and women from our national guard who are deploying for a year to kuwait. they will also support operations in jordan, qatar, united arab emirates and iraq. this is his second deployment and it's his birthday too and every year he's been in boots while this is the second deployment for staff sergeant lawrence magee nearly 70 percent of the sustainment brigade will be going to a war zone for the first time. if that isn't enough stress these civilian soldiers who work among us when not called for active duty will be away from family for a year. how are you going to deal with this? i don't know annvi fuller's husband lee says they will rely on today's modern technology to make that one year a little easier to handle skype, phone calls whatever we can do for sergeant benjamin alworth who is on his first deployment getting to serve his country is something he's been wanting to do it's something i

just really ready to go. you know the waiting is the hardest part. while the waiting is the hardest part, the national guard also recognizes that the families being left behind are as important those heading to the middle east, especially the children. they were asked to come down to the floor to take part in the ceremony. the commander of the 17, col. vernon scarborough said it best as the ceremony closed the the deployment officially got underway. i know i speak for everyone here in the 17th when i say thank you to the families, thank you for the employers, thank you to our leadership for standing beside us when we go through this. our motto is victory through endurance and we will be victorious, thank you very much these national guard members are joining some other nevada national guard who are currently deployed as military police in the middle east. they were deployed last year. among those being deployed today is the brother of our 11pm producer,

on durango drive. police say just before 9:30 a woman was hit by a jeep wrangler. investigators say she was not in a marked crosswalk. the driver of the jeep stayed on the scene. after a weeklong search, the body of missing country singer craig strickland was recovered today. strickland was the lead singer in a country rock band called..."backroad anthem." the 29-year old and a friend went missing while duck hunting at an oklahoma lake during a fierce winter storm. strickland's friend.. chase morland, was found dead last monday at the lake. before the two left for their hunting trip...morland tweeted..."in case we don't come back, @backroadcraig and i are going right through winter storm goliath to kill ducks in oklahoma. father and son at the center of a case - that led protesters to take over a federal building. the group is being led by ammon bundy, the son of rancher cliven bundy. you may remember bundy challenged the bureau of land management in 2014 over unpaid grazing fees on federal land. the hammonds were sentenced to prison after a supposed controlled burn on their property spread to government land. protestors remain at the remote outpost 30 miles from burn, oregon, in support of the hammonds. "everything that we use and everything we benefit as people comes from the land. (butted) and the federal government knows that that's where wealth is generated from and they're taking it and stealing it from the people. bundy calls the hammonds case the result of a failed land grab by the government. the group charges the federal government has aggressively swallowed up ranch land, harassed farmers, hurt the economy in places just like this..wide open harney county. the first trading day of 2016 may not have been a good one for your investment

the number of new drugs on the market have reached the highest level in 19 years. the food and drug administration approved 45 drugs with never- before-sold ingredients in 2015. 41 were approved the year before.... which had previously been the highest number since 1996. the rising number of approvals reflect a focus on drugs for rare and hard-to-treat diseases. a chick fil a in new york remains closed today after getting 59 health department violations. the city's first freestanding chick-fil-a got its "c" grade on christmas eve -- closed on a deep cleaning. included flies and potential food contamination. planned to reopen today... but the atlanta- opted to stay closed until -- confident we are beyond our areas." regulations to make school lunches healthier for kids is

according to a new study. researchers at the university of washington looked at more than 7-thousand middle and high schoolers in washington state - before and after new meal standards went into effect in 20-12. the rules cap calories per meal and require at least one serving of fruits or vegetables. researchers found that students are now getting more vitamins and minerals in their meals and that school meal participation did not change. while the study did not look at how much students actually consumed - they say there is no evidence that students are throwing away more food. dinner may be on the brain.. or maybe even on the table... but if it's not... we have a suggestion on why one dish might be appropriate tonight. keep watching for an all new more
