"nats" they emptied this training center even faster than they moved in just one month ago. "a lot of uncertainty its sad a lot of guys heartbroken." the time came to take down the flags

dozens of workers - from managers to installers - from different flagships in southern nevada. "nat" all stopped and stared silently. "its not a company i ever envisioned leaving its something i really had plans for doing the rest of my life." john kelly along with all these men says his life is being uprooted. he's been in las vegas 12 years and with solar city three months. now he may have to move. "ill leave my family my kid and wife will probably stay my sons a sophomore at rancho high its hard to pull him out hes got two years left." its a situation 2 thousand solar city employees in nevada face. last month the states public utilities commission voted...solar customers will pay more to nv energy - and be compensated less for the extra energy they produce. "itll make their rates go up dramatically it makes it pretty much impossible for us to do business in this state." solar city estimates bills will soar by 50 percent--at least. the new rates were

effect the first of this new year - but the puc has announced a hearing to delay the rate change. solar city says thats some good news - itll give them more time to appeal the new rates. "yea were not goign to stop fighting for our customers our employees." for now - solar city is packing up and loading the trucks. where theyre headed? they don't know yet. "im gonna chase the sun thats the dream and whereever itll lead me thats where well go." there are a total of 110 solar power companies in the state of nevada - and 17- thousand solar customers. we talked to nv energy today. they tell us rate hikes are to eliminate subsidies and even out the cost for everyone using the grid. they say they still believe rooftop solar customers will save money on their bills. the las vegas convention center is bustling with final preparations. hundreds of thousands will be in las vegas for the latest and greatest in technology. thousands of exhibitors are working on their booths ahead of the international consumer

more than 20- thousand products and gadgets will be on display. "its like the day before christmas. its like christmas eve. everyone is so excited to get going and real thing." "when i walk and booths still being constructed carpets coming down but somehow it comes together." more than 150- thousand people are expected in las vegas from around the world. c-e-s opens tomorrow and runs through saturday. in addition to big crowds... c-e-s means big money. and the consumer technology association is putting that money to good use. fox five's rachel more is live at the convention center - to show us how c-e-s gives back. this year the show is using 2.4 million square feet of exhibit space -- that's up 250,000 from last year and theyre all set to open their doors to the public tomorrow. but today the consumer

announced their grant recipients. every year the cta awards local organizations sustainability grants. over the years they have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars. this year they gave 20,000 dollars to green our planet -- tourp university -- and everfi for a clark county program. ces is las vegas' biggest convention of the year -- welcoming 165,000 visitors and generating 140 million dollars in the local economy. rules and laws for testing them in nevada. sandoval says automated vehicles are one of the most important emerging industries in the world... and he wants nevada to be one of the first states for new developments in technology. young victims of a school shooting - in newtown connecticut. he also mentioned the victims in "columbine" - "san bernardino" and other u-s cities - where gun violence has made headlines... in annoucing a new series of executive orders. they include - requiring all gun sellers to do background checks on buyers... promoting new gun safety technology.... stepping up enforcement programs... and expanding access to mental health care. fox five's elizabeth watts is live at tropicana near eastern with more on what this steps could mean - here in nevada. gun stores like this one already licensed and do background checks... the owner says who this really hurts is the small sellers-- the hobby dealers-- and honest buyers who can't afford all the extra fees... obama "we are the only advanced country on earth that sees this kind of mass violence erupt with this kind of frequency."

"obama to those in congress who blame mental illness for mass shootings, heres your chance, put your money where your mouth is." they'll also add a few hundred more fbi background check and a-t-f agents to help with the increased workload. irwin doesn't have problems with some of that.. but says requiring background checks for everyone will keep guns out of the hands of good people who simply can't afford the extra fees on a gun that costs a few hundred dollars... like an extra 25 bucks for the background check... irwin if we charge a 25 dollar fee for a different consitutional right, say the right to vote, would that be okay? the left would be up in arms about that! irwin also argues background checks don't work- they look at past behavior but can't predict the future.. he says the best way to protect the public is if the government would lock criminals up and throw away the key... and put more agents on gang task forces instead of creating more paperwork. the president wants congress to invest money to get people more mental health care.... he said nearly two in three gun deaths are suicides and wants

you can expect new gadgets and gizmos at the biggest tech show in the world. c-e-s officially gets underway tomorrow. mary moloney has a look at what you can expect. some of the largest names in the tech world -- will showcase their shiny new gadgets at the consumer electronics show. drones dominated last year's event -- as did cool cars. this year -- expect more drool worthy inventions and mind blowing tech. the tech watchers at engadget predict new tv technology will be unveiled. big names like l-g -- sony -- and sharp are forecasted to tout new ways to make your t-v watching better. but at least one

the gun -- and giving us a look at what it will show off. samsung has three projects from its super secret creative lab that may someday change your life. the first is the welt. it's the next generation of wearable technology. it looks like a typical belt -- but hidden inside -- there is so-called smart sensor technology that can track your health. like recording waist size -- eating habits -- steps -- and even time you spend sitting down. this is a rink. it's a hand-motion controller for those who like to play in virtual reality. and the last project is a little harder to see. it's a watch strap called tiptalk -- and it lets you hear your smartphone -- without headphones. all you have to do is touch your ear -- and voila -- calls -- videos -- and anything else you play can be heard in your ear -- without pesky headphone chords. cool - huh? don't expect to find these things on store shelves anytime soon. samsung says the projects are still in the development phases. but we'll be able to
