presidential candidates are in town - including frontrunner hillary clinton she rallied at sun city anthem. we'll show you that in just a moment, but you also had a chance to sit down and talk to the presidential candidate. i did, and one of the topics i asked her about was the president's executive action on guns. " i think it's absolutely possible to both have sensible gun safety measures that are compatible with the second amendment and the right to bear arms. we've had that for much of our history. we can certainly have that again, bc i thin kit's more urgent now bc responsible gun owners know with military style weapons, if they fall into the wrong

damage, many more deaths can be caused. what i've laid out is comprehensive background checks, closing the gun show loophole, the online loophole, what's now called the charleston loophole, ending the immunity from liability for gun makers and sellers, and prohibiting anyone on the no fly list from buying a gun in our country. a big majority of americans support that, and a significant majority of gun owners do. " i also asked the former secretary of state about immigration. you'll hear that part of our interview coming up at five thirty. and just a few hours ago - clinton was across town making her case to a crowd of around 400 people at a grass roots rally at sun city anthem. clinton said her highest priority si making the economy work for everyone. which means more jobs and higher incomes - but also finding a comprehensive way to support families and create an avenue for them to get

hopeful also talked about her plans to invest in infrastructure, creating incentives that will encourage businesses to hire locally and the importance of combatting climate change. take a listen to what a local clinton supporter had to say about the former secretary of state's plans.. terri bothwick, nevada:"she really seems to have a comprehensive idea of wha hte nation needs to be going forward and plans for a wide range of topics" clinton also talked about a comprehensive plan to fight terrrorism which includes depriving isis of terrirotry through american led airstrikes, supporting troops on the ground who are iraqui, suuni and kurdish fighters, and combatting international terrorist groups by cutting off their flow of resources and shutting down the online accounts. bernie sanders - also holding a rally tonight at the tropicana we are taking a live look at the event now - as they wait for the vermont senator to take the stage. we'll have more on the rally.... later tonight. the third democratic

o'malley will host an event tomorrow morning at caesars palace... where he's expected to layout his economic plan. all three democratic presidential candidates will also attend a dinner tonight - hosted by senator harry reid. our team coverage continues live - with fox five's rachel more - at the m-g-m grand - where the event will take place. right now guests are lining up outside the ballroom doors -- inside you can see the mgm staff laying the silverware -- placing the centerpieces and putting the finishing touches there is a lot of security here. obviously a very high profile event so along with secret service -- tsa is here to help with metal detector screening and we also saw a couple of k-9 units patrolling the floor. this dinner is a chance for the presidential candidates to make one last push in their campaigns before the caucuses in february. nevada will be the first western state and the third state in the country to make its voice heard in the democratic presidential primary.

harry to show his influence in the system." the next republican candidate to come to town will be donald trump. he has a scheduled trip in reno this weekend. back in 2014 - metro stopped responding to non-injury crashes... citing a lack of resources. now that the "more cops" tax hike has passed... metro is reversing that policy. fox 5's ophelia young has more on what drivers need to know - when involved in a wreck. "engine" more cops - "siren more responses - starting with non- injury crashes. in 2014 - metro couldn't afford more traffic officers and stopped responding to less serious crashes. "with reduced manpower over the last couple years when responded to accidents officers were tied up for long periods of time." after the change - the number of responses to crashes in 2013 - which was 23 thousand, dropped by half the next year. response time was

citations weren't given - making it difficult to hold drivers accountable. as sheriff joseph lombardo promised - they're now able to respond to more crashes now that the department is getting more funding. but they're still encouraging drivers in fender benders to think twice about calling - if they feel they don't need help from police. if youre in a small crash - they ask you to call 311 instead - "the other party has their information insurance cards drivers license can you do a name exchange." if the accident is serious - call 911. "if there is major damage or any type of injury or that drivers are impaired traffic officers will complete a full investigation." metro says the number of responses to traffic collision will no doubt spike - but they hope the increase wont affect response times to severe emergencies. they say this also benefits drivers in small crashes who just want get on with their day.

back in the drivers seat if there is a fender bender sometimes youre standing there going do i need to be here can i just do a name exchange and work it out amonst each other and the reality is yes you can." reporting ophelia young fox 5 news local las vegas. metro's traffic bureau currently has 135 officers - they hope to add about 15 more this year. a man has been arrested - after a fight that turned deadly. tracy morrison was taken into custody - around 3 this morning - on harmony street - near decatur and the 95. he faces one count of first degree murder. metro says he was one of two men... invovled in a fight about five hours earlier... near decatur and charleston. investigators say morrison confronted the man - who was with a woman inside a tent - battering the victim with his fights before running off. the victim was found unresponsive - and taken to u-m-c where he was declared dead. the powerball jackpot... has reached 500 million dollars. do you feel lucky

closed captioning will resume shortly doors officially opened today.... for the international c-e- s. thousands flocked to the convention center here in las vegas.... for the latest in electronics and technology. about 36-hundred companies and vendors are taking part in the largest trade show in north america - which has drawn about 165-thousand people to town. the l-v-c-v-a says its expected to make a local economic impact of about 140- million dollars. from home security to drones... attendees are there for all kinds of technology... and as tradition goes... tv's are still one of the show stoppers. 8k tv's i thought last year 4k tv's were the big thing but already we're at 8k so i think next looking at the 16k so we'll see." been in town since the weekend - but the event officially runs from today until saturday. so everybody wants to know.... all about the coolest stuff on display at c-e-s. the auto industry is getting in on the action. volkswagen is going electric... with two new vehicles... including this one - called the "budd-e". the fully electric vehicle has an estimated range of 233 miles - and takes only 30- minutes to charge to 80-percent capacity. the doors open with a voice command - and its dashboard is composed of digital screens instead of gauges. from smart cars... to smart appliances.... whirlpool has a few new products getting a lot of attention. there's a new washer and dryer that will anticipate when you are running low on things - like detergent and dryer sheets - and will automatically re-order those supplies for you through amazon. there is also a

"what's so great about this refrigerator is it's actually the industry's easiest to organize. how we are able to achieve that, is we actually completely redesigned the interior, we took a look at what consumers buy the most and we designed the refrigerator to fit all those items in a way that people had never seen before." of course.... the latest televisions are always among the big draws at c-e-s. ultra h-d.... or 4- k... tv's have been around for a while now... but this is the first year in which consumer reports is recommending that customers actually go out and buy them. that's because a lot of the standards that have been in flux the past couple of years are finally nailed down. you're less likely to buy a tv that's going to be out-moded in a year or two and also the content is finally arriving. we expect that this is going to be the first year where you're going to actually see ultra hd blue rays which is important because you can actually get movies in ultra hd now and get the full resolution of that set."

a las vegas data company... is making a major "switch". a deal being made with n-v energy... to go off the grid - with renewable resources. and - on the other side of the equation... who the job losses are adding up - for solar power companies who say they're beinig pushed out of

data company switch has begun drawing exclusively from renewable energy to power its facilities. "vegas inc" reports the company switched over to the complete use of renewable energy at the start of this year. switch has entered into an agreement with nv energy to use the utility's existing renewable sources - which include geothermal - wind - and solar - while construction gets underway on two solar projects expected to be done by the end of the year. the move comes after switch announced last year its decision to power its data centers with renewable energy. the company provides services to corporations including dreamworks - ebay and google - as well as las vegas-based companies like mgm resorts and zappos. 550 people have been laid off by

the company made that number known today... just weeks after the company announced it was closing up shop in nevada. yesterday the company dismantled its training facility. the end of business comes as a result of a decision by the public utilities commission to raise net metering rates over a five year period. those rates went into effect friday.... lowering incentives for customers to save money by installing solar panels. solarcity is among others in the industry exiting the nevada market. competitor sun run also called in about 200 employees or so today to notify them of layoffs as well. there's much more coming up in the second half of fox5 news at 5. all three democratic presidential candidates are in town - courting nevada voters. we'll have more on two rallies five's one-on-one frontrunner

as you said working in the toursim industry. they're a lifeblood of this state, of this country, so i'm going to keep standing up for the proposition that our country is a nation of immigrants, our economy benefits from hard work ppl do, and if we have comprehensive immigration reform, there should be a path to citizenship. can we afford to build a wall along our southern border or ship everyone back? well, i don't think so. i think it's challenging for those who are advocating that to speak toward the hundreds of billiions we've spent tightening border security. we do have borders in many areas. the terrain is very difficult. but the more important question is, would we really ever send the police after 11, living in our country, rounding them up like some from wwii? no, i don't think we will.
