while the steelers beat bengals we spoke with both winners and losers today who say play-off season is the best time to place a bet. it's been said that las vegas is a gambler's paradise - but add n-f-l playoff season to the equation and howard meadows: money,money,money. thats it. thats the name of the game. the all american sport garners in more wagers than most sports combined. play-off season being one of the busiest times of year for venues like "superbook." jay kornegay, west gate superbook: the next six weeks for the las vegas sports books is going to be quite busy. nevada's 187 sports books took in $115.9 million dollars on the superbowl in 2015 - and won roughly 3 million. bi twinningshat are expected to be surpassed this year. officials say the extra interest in sports betting could have something to do with the open field going the playoffs. jay kornegay, west gate sports book:

but casinos across the state were hit with a massive loss. nevada casinos lost 662-million dollars last year. this is the sixth straight year in red. that's according to the "nevada gaming control board". analysts say the trend started with the 2008 recession... with fewer tourists and less spending at the tables and slot machines. the board hopes the losing streak will end this year -- with a record 42-million visitors expected in las vegas alone. it's a powerball frenzy! the jackpot now up to a record 900-million dollars. many were crossing state lines to get their hands on the winning ticket. photojournalist luis marquez went to primm to see how people would spend the money if they win. closed captioning will resume shortly

no one else was hurt. police have not said why the driver went off the road. r-t-c released a statement on twitter... quote "this morning's accident is a terrible tragedy... and our deepest condolences go to the victim's family. metro police is investigating the incident. as always r-t-c remains committed to ensuring public safety." a motorcyclist is dead after being thrown off his bike... and hitting the base of a light pole. it happened around 12-30 this morning near dean martin and flamingo. police say the rider overturned its bike on the left side before crashing. the victim was taken to u-m-c where he died. the coroner says he is 26-year-old maurice walker. a scooter rider is in critical condition after falling into the road. it happened at eleven in the morning near bonanza and m-l-k. police say a pickup driver was towing a trailer when it made a left turn. a man riding a motorized scooter fell onto its right side... and slid into the road. he was taken to u-m-c with life- threatening injuries. the rider has been identified as melvin mitchell.

with the pickup. a suspect is caught after a fight turns deadly at an apartment complex. 30-year-old brandon olds was arrested friday afternoon. police say he stabbed the victim during a fight with several others last month -- near harmon and jimmy durante... the man died at the scene. olds faces one count of open murder. two people were captured in connection to a shooting at pahrump nugget hotel and casino. the nye county sheriff's office says lee daniels fired one round at a woman during a verbal fight... then took off in a car driven by desiree lewis. the victim was taken to u-m-c with an injury to her leg. no one else was hurt. daniels and lewis were arrested in las vegas this morning... and booked into nye county detention center. both face charges of attempted murder to assault with a deadly weapon. police have not said how the victim and suspects knew each other. the owner of a pahrump brothel makes a bid for a state senate seat. the "reno gazette journal" reports dennis hof will

occupied by reno senator greg brower. hof says he will run as a libertarian. in september -- senator brower said he would not seek re-election. hof owns several brothels including "the love ranch" outside pahrump.. where former n- b-a star lamar odom was found unconcious last october. more armed protesters join the standoff in oregon. this after ammon bundy declined the sheriff's offer to be escorted out of the state peacefully. wanda moore has more on how it's dividing the community. it's the day after the meeting with the sheriff...but as one of the group leaders walks up to the press conference his grandchild in his arm...it's clear...the group is not leaving... to international headlines now... protests erupt in germany over police response to sexual assaults and muggings on new year's eve. many of the attacks are being blamed on refugees. mary moloney shows us the response from the german chancellor -- who has received criticism for her pro-refugee policy. nat pop this was the scene saturday in cologne, germany. protesters filled the streets.. clashing with police.. furious over the new years eve mob sex assaults. at one point, police in riot gear responded with tear gas and water cannons. nat pop german authorities have charged 31 suspects, including 18 asylum-seekers, in the sex attacks and muggings in cologne. many of the protesters were angry at police response to the attacks -- as well as the influx of migrants into europe. german chancellor angela merkel -- who has received criticism for her pro-refugee policy -- spoke out

steelers fans right out of the womb... and just in time for the playoff game! six newborns were wrapped in black and gold blankets at a pittsburgh hospital. even the number six is symbolic. it's the number of super bowl trophies the steelers have won. it's the hospital's tradition during the playoffs to wrap the babies in team colors. volunteers also knitted the babies' black and gold caps. fs officially got underway today. the first game of the a-f-c's side of wildcard weekend featured the kansas city cheifs visiting the houston texans. as always -- j-j watt is the face of the texans. today -- they wished he was playing on both sides of the ball. things got out of hand for houston from the opening kickoff. knile davis

kansas city. he brings it out from six yards deep. he stumbles a bit at first, but then finds an enormous gap in the coverage. and he's gone. davis goes 106 yards untouched for the first score of the game -- on the first play of the game! and things wouldn't get better for houston from there. things were especially brutal for brian hoyer. in the first quarter -- hoyer throws a pick to eric berry. again in the first -- hoyer fumbles it. the ball is recovered by dontari poe. in the second quarter -- hoyer is picked-off in the redzone by josh mauga. and before the half -- hoyer is picked for a third time by marcus peters. four turnovers in the first half for hoyer! texans coach bill o'brien is less than pleased, as were the hometown fans who booed their team headed into the half. but thet only trailed by 13 at that point. now, in the third quarter -- alex smith on the play- action -- he finds chris conley over the middle for the score. chiefs go up 20-0. same quarter, same score -- smith throws a wobbler over the middle, but travis kelce hauls it in. there's some really poor tackling. and kelce picks up

then on the first play of the fourth quarter -- spencer ware -- is again met by some horrendous tackling. ware takes it in for the score. that put k-c up 27-0. and they would go on to win this one easily, 30-0. it's the chiefs' first playoff victory since 1994! the chiefs advance. it was acrazy one in cincinnatti, between the bengals and steelers. pick it up in the third quarter -- roethlisberger lofts one into the endzone. martavis bryant somehow hangs on to it. that's a touchdown. and the steelers lead it 15-0. but the bengals would fight back. down just five in the fourth quarter now. mccarron finds a-j green for the 25 yard score. the bengals claw their way back into the lead. later in the fourth -- the bengals have the ball off an interception. but hill coughs it up. a huge break for pittsburgh. they still have a shot at this. steelers converted on fourth down. and on the next play -- roethlisberger's pass is incomplete, but brown is hit hard by burfict.
