discussing sexual education.... parents of clark county school district get a closer look at the proposed curriculum.... this is fox5 news at 10. local. las vegas. the boulder city animal abuse saga continues... i'm john huck. i'm christine maddela. those living in boulder city have been up in arms ever since they found out former animal control supervisor mary jo frazier was allowed to retire even though a police investigation found she had been killing animals after backlash from the community the boulder city interum police chief stepped down from his post... fox 5's miguel martinez- valle has the details. former chief of police administration bill conger has officially resigned, it took a few hours toget this confirmed by the boulder city spokesperson, but once it was confirmed they said they didnt have too much information that they could give us ... conger didnt leave a letter of resignation, he was contracted as chief by a third party professional services contractor, and

bill conger, boulder cities chief of police administration has resigned, and while the city wont officialy say its because of the animal control investigaton... those who have been following the case closely say him leaving his post can only help... " the public wants transparency in the case and we want a full fair thorough investigation so if that was being hindered in any way by the police chief him stepping helps that case." conger, who was acting as a sort of interim police chief, came under fire recently after it was made public that he dropped a criminal case against mary jo frazier, the former animal control supervisor accused of needlessly killing animals " it was not bill conger's place to make the sole decision on wether to pursue the case or not, this is something that shouldve been turned over to the district attorney and have them resign." the investigation is now in the hands of the district attorney, but for many, conger dropping the case was a clear violation of the

retired chief of police thomas finn even called it one of the most disturbing things he had ever seen... he said during his time in office he had... signatures ... live in the newsroom, miguel martinez-valle, fox5 news local. las vegas. the city is currently trying to charge frazier with 37 felony animal cruelty counts because of the animal shelter deaths... a son is arrested in connection to his father's death. this is the first homicide of the year for henderson. police say there was a domestic disturbance around 11-30 a-m at a home near patrick and stephanie. officers found a man's body with a gunshot wound. police say the victim's 22-year-old son daron clanton was arrested. he faces an open murder charge. neighbors were surprised when they heard someone had been killed. "this is las vegas and everything happens here. unfortunately its not really news to the residents of las vegas. it is shocking that it happened right on my street." henderson police

home for any domestic violence issues in the past. a body was found early this morning at a local high school campus. police tell us school officials reported the body around 5-30 this morning outside of las vegas academy. if was found near the back of the building - off of 7- th street near bridger. officials say they're investigating the death as a suicide. classes were not cancelled -- students still had their normal schedule. it was a deadly weekend on valley roads. eight people died in two days. those eight people died in six separate crashes throughout southern nevada. fox 5's cyndi lundeberg talked to one of the familys who lost a loved one this weekend... she joins us live from the crash site on dean martin and flamingo.... i spoke to the family of navy veteran maurice walker. he was killed early saturday morning while riding his motorcycle home from work when he apparently lost control... his wife describes her husband as the nicest guy you'd ever meet... and says his nick

tom collins was arrested on december 11-th after crashing his vehicle while leaving the thomas and mack center. the 65-year old former democratic state lawmaker had a court date scheduled today. his attorney "michael pariente" wanted an extra day to confirm he will represent collins. the hearing has been rescheduled for tomorrow. lamar odom will not be facing drug charges following the incident at a parhump brothel back in october - odom was found unconcious at the 'bunny ranch' with cocaine in his system. but because he did not have any cocaine on him when he was found - the county will not be pressing any charges. they say it is unlikely he would be convicted because they cannot prove he took the drugs while he was in nye county. a special sex education meeting at c-c-s-d tonight... to discuss curriculum your students could see starting next year. fox five's elizabeth watts is live at flamingo and mccleod with what was discussed tonight. the special sex ed committee held a

discuss different lesson plans... but there's a lot more back and forth before anything is finalized. it's not the typical c-c-s-d sex ed meetings you've seen in the past... monday night featured a nearly empty school board room. the sex education advisory committee meeting to review several lesson plans drafted by the district... after a special meeting last september. danielle miller/ ccsd those being statuatory rape, negotiation skills and how to obtain contraceptives the committee is made up of different community members.. each lending a different point of view to what's been a touchy subject in the community. david strickland/committ ee chair & parent you have parents on here you have doctors you have teachers you have religious person, cleric. they all come together and have their own input they went through the different lesson plans... and mentioned things that could be added to make them more impactful for the students.. michelene newman/committee member we could add statistics there so they have a better idea of the risk involved danielle miller/

i think people really appreciated seeing things more written out and see what it would look like in a classroom there was room for public comment.. but less than a handful of people had their voices heard in the meeting that lasted just over an hour. mos: i would like to think those could be produced in a video series and the series could be produced with the clark county health district they also approved supplemental materials... to update the old c- d-c fact sheets in schools.. so kids can learn about different s-t-d's... how they're spread.. treated.. and prevented.. so now the lesson drafts goes back to the school board.. who will send it back to the committee and then to the school board again for possible action. and in the next few months the committee will also be discussing other lesson plans on topics like gender identity. reporting live ew ffn llv. when finalized- these materials would be implemented in the following school

voters can now receive sample ballots through email. that could help the county save more than a million dollars. "we're excited today because it's an opportunity to be put into the citizens hands to help us save some money. getting their sample ballot electronically will definitely be a good step in saving the tax payers some money this election season." it costs a little more than a dollar-and-eighty cents to make and send out a paper sample ballot. but it adds up -- officials say switching to get them electronically can help save more than 1- point-5 million dollars. you can opt in to get a sample ballot through email by going onto clark county's website. tomorrow president obama will be making his final state of the union address. we will be covering that speech right here on fox5. it starts at 6 tomorrow night. followed by a special edition of fox five at 7:30. it will cost a little less to fill your gas tank here in the valley. the average price per gallon is two-dollars and 51 cents. that's according to "gas buddy".
