11. local las vegas. we're starting fox5 news at 11 with some breaking news. one person is dead, the other in extremely critical condition after a shooting. i'm john huck. i'm christine maddela. this happened around seven tonight, near rancho and washington. you're taking a live look at the scene now. metro says two men drove up to a home, and confronted another man. there was an argument, and gunshots were fired. police say the men who drove up to the home were the ones that were shot. police tell us there were several adults and children in the home. they weren't hurt, but they are being questioned. metro does know who they are looking for, but right now, they are not releasing names. "according to the person who called us from inside the residence, he said it was one of his family members who did the shooting. he's not here, we haven't spoken to him yet. he left " police do not believe this shooting was gang related. we will continue to follow this story, and will have more infomation for you tomorrow on

""it is a step in the right direction. it will certainly help. it's not going to solve our teacher shortage, but it will definitely help the teacher shortage. " " the c-c-s-d board of trustees unanimously approved a two year contract. it addresses recruitment, retention, and professional development. new salaries will go into effect march first, and increases are retroactive to september. should clark county school district be broken up? the city of las vegas held a town hall tonight asking people that same question fox5s miguel martinez valle was at the meeting he has the details well officials pushing for the reorganization of clark county school district said tonights meeting is the

the publics help in figuring out if creating smaller districts would be the best move for students clark county is the 5th largest school district in the country and assemblyman david gardner thinks thats a problem... assemblyman david gardner, " we have the largest rural district, as well as the largest urban district, and we have urban problems and we have rural problems and we have distance problems and we have transportation problems and its hard to get one group to get their mind wrapped around that." gardner presented a bill that looked to break up the school district into smaller precincts, that bill is now law and the town hall is the start of a year long conversation on the best way to re-organize . mayor lee, north las vegas " in our particular case we have a lot of schools that are old and have these trailers on them, and we have dollars that come to the school district but don't follow the urban children and the problems in those areas." the town hall welcomed officials from all over the valley, as well as parents and teachers... as a part of a reorganization study they hope to have done by next year they asked the public questions on their concerns with the district... people were asked if they thought the school district was too big, and if they

effect on education... most answered yes... annalise castor, break free ccsd " you know i think the fact that clark county school district wasn't here right now was the perfect representation of the fact that were just too big, and they need to let go of that control and really let it be returned to the neighborhoods and their schools." still others dont think breaking up ccsd is going to solve the inequality between schools in different parts of the valley rachael richardson, mother " it comes from schools individually you know and it becomes a matter of quality teachers being at the schools that aren't deemed as quality, a lot teachers don't want to work with kids that don't make their numbers look good." they fear the precincts would actually hurt at risk schools and leave them behind... among those in the crowd tonight high school student leaders. some shared concerns that splitting up the district would segregate the schools. live miguel martinez valle fox5 news local las vegas .

representatives didnt make it to the meeting they did send an informational video at the request of the city. more than 160 social workers and mental health professionals will be hired in nevada schools, thanks to more than five million dollars in grants. students were surveyed on the health of their school climates. the social workers will be sent to the

intervention. officials say investing in students' emotional and socialhealth pays off with higher academic performance. a metro officer accused of trying to choke his girlfriend... had been fired from the force a few years ago for a similar incident with his ex wife. james burt appeared in court today, wearing handcuffs and leg irons. his attorney said his previous domestic violence case had been dismissed, and because burt was a police officer, he should not get a high bail. but the judge reminded the attorney that case was a negotiated deal, and set bail at 75 thousand dollars for two charges. " in thinking about this case and the occupation of the your client doesn't he get a benefit because of what he does, or does he get treated differently because of what he does and quite frankly he should be treated like every other defendant in this courtroom" in the previous case, burt got his job back with metro after charges were dismissed and after an abitration ruling. he was told not victim, and his next court date is

the woman charged with killing a 10 year old girl... and slashing a coworkers face with razor blades... will spend the rest of her life in prison. brenda stokes accepted a plea deal today. fox 5s cyndi lundeberg is live outside the courthouse... with more on how the family is reacting tonight... jade morris' family was inside the courtroom today... i spoke to jades grandmother tonight... she told me after stokes kiled her granddaughter... she came banging on her door... looking for her. terrence- it has destroyed us it may have been three years since the murder of their grand daughter... 10 year old jade morris.... but the pain the family feels.... never goes away brenda- theres days its all i think about especially in december. december is the worst time of

charged with killing jade morris... pleaded guilty to the crime stokes was in a relationship with jade's father phillip. the family says jade was one of a kind. brenda - she even taught me ill never forget she taught me how to use a computer police say stokes took jade shopping on december 21st... then stabbed her dozens of times and left her body in an undeveloped neighborhood in north las vegas... from there they say stokes went to the bellagio and attacked a coworker with razor blades. steve wolfson- this was a very very ugly heinous needless killing of a 10 year old girl not to mention the slashing and mayhem of the adult woman terrence- its always going to be apart of my life i dont think there was enough justice for the morris family... brenda stokes took one of the best things in their life... and no prison sentence.... can ever make it right terence we still suffer today so much (sobs) and i just want her to

"get me" started offering rides earlier this week in las vegas. it's already making deliveries, with customers using their app to pick out what they need from various stores. passengers have the choice of a motorcycle, car, s-u-v, or limo to come get them. "get me" is now hiring drivers who meet local requirements. "80 percent of it's done online so they basicly sign up and as soon as they .. it's like 13 questions we ask them, they immediatly get an email, do a background check, and that would go to them and us so we'll know that process is done." (robert dear, suspect) "it was just a spur of the moment that, ok. they wanted to slay, to come for me, they wanted to start a war and so that's why i did it." he claims 10 fbi agents were following him from his trailer home in hartsel that morning. (robert dear, suspect) "i felt like they were going to get me and so i am going to pick where i am going to make my last stand and i picked planned parenthood because it's murdering little babies." dear claimed the fbi tipped off the clinic that he was coming. (robert dear, suspect) "when i got there of course those guys knew i was armed, knew everything about me. well they slither off like snakes and then they get the local cops to do their dirty work."
