" any time anyone whispers anything about parking on the strip, the media tends to go a little nuts..." las vegans like their free parking, but mgm resorts says its time for their properties to make some changes... " we need better parking facilities we need people to be able to get in and out more quickly." the changes include a 54 million parking structure behind the excalibur, 34 million dollars in new technology for the garages, and a parking fee for both toursists and locals... "... theyre saying thats gonna go towards enhanncing the parking experience." those enhancements include a smartphone-app that shows you whats spots are available and signs that point you to the empty spaces... you pay for parking based on the amount of time youre in the garage... kinda like the airport... " there will be opportunity for locals just as tourists to join our m life customer loyalty program and to earn free parking privilages." mgm says the parking fee's will start around april, but there's going to be a grace period for locals. they didnt say how long that would be. its not just self parking going up, a source close to the situation told us valet could charge around 17 dollars a day, they also said valet's arnt going to be paid these fees... so they could be losing money... experts say wether fee parking catches on with other resort companies on the strip will probably depend on how the new mgm policy goes... " a lot of it is going to depend on how people react.if the customers say wait this is too much, ill pay a resort fee but i wont pay for parking then they might make a change." as far as employee parking, mgm did say that would still be free. they

locals. our team coverage continues as fox 5s cyndi lundeberg brings us their reaction. those who live here tell me they don't think it's fair they have to pay to visit parts of their own city... many also said if the mgm starts charging... why won't the other hotels? one man said he doesn't mind paying to park if it came with things like security guards... but mgm has said that's not what the money is going towards. locals say it's just another cost in an already too expensive city... i think that's crazy we got to pay enough around here butt to i'm going to go next door for free parking the parking fees will cost around 10 dollars... and many people told me if its that expensive they'll just take a cab instead... or a ride sharing option according to ubers website... it costs just a little over a dollar per mile...

school today. a viewer sent us this cell phone video which shows what happened on the campus at washington near nellis. school police say this happened before noon when a boy trespassed on campus and refused numerous requests to leave. officers say he later became antagonistic and when they tried to force him to leave, he resisted, and then gained the support of others, including the sister of the boy trespassing. the officer used his pepper spray to disperse the students after one of them threw a rock at his head. he had a minor abrasion but none of the students required medical attention. the boy and his sister were both taken to juvenile detention. we'll have much more about this story tonight on fox5 news at ten. a crash this afternoon injured at least six people, including a child. it happened at the corner of cheyenne and rancho around 1:30. metro police say officers were responding to a burglary call.. and were given the description of the vehicle seen

a tennessee couple who claims to have bought one of the three winning powerball tickets is in nashville. john and lisa robinson of munford went to the tennessee lottery headquarters to get their ticket verified and claim their massive jackpot! they are going to take the lump sum cash payout of about 327 million. the couple say the first thing they will do is pay off their daughter's student loans. they also say they will go to work on monday. the other winning tickets were sold in chino hills, california, and melbourne beach, florida. those winners have not been announced yet. what do you do when a giant rock is in your way? blow it up, of course.
