locals and visitors to las vegas will now have to budget for parking.... before heading to some strip casinos. i'm christine maddela. i'm john huck. m-g-m resorts is the first company to announce a fee for self-parking and valet parking on the strip. " " we need better parking facilities we need people to be able to get in and out more quickly." " m-g-m resorts says money from the fees will go towards building a new parking garage for the t- mobile arena. it will also pay to make its existing garages, like adding signs that spaces. drivers will pay time they spend in the garage that's up to 10 parking, and 17 dollars for valet. as far as other experts say close attention to how this works for m-g-m resorts. " a lot of it is going people react.if the customers say wait pay a resort fee but i wont pay for parking then they might make a change." " m-g-m resorts

on your car... and the cost to park... its cheaper to take a cab or ride sharing service. reporting live cyndi lundeberg fox 5 news local las vegas. tonight fox 5 also spoke to a former valet supervisor... she just left her job... and says these fees will dramatically impact valet employees who earn their money from tips... theyre all kind at a loss for words what do you do? when you find out that your livelihood your job something you look forward to the way you live your life... just you know... what do you do? that former valet supervisor... says her and her coworkers found out about the changes from watching the news. she estimates it'll cut more than half of valets salaries. while we're not used to paying to park on the strip, it's the norm in many other cities. and according to these rates... 10 dollars a day isn't too bad. in washington d-c, self parking 33 dollars, and valet is 43.

much as 57 dollars for valet in chicago. denver is about 27 dollars for self parking. and san francisco has some of the highest rates, with self parking at 47 dollars and valet at 56. we asked viewers if the parking fees at m-g-m resorts will discourage them from visiting the hotels. 91 percent said yes... 5 percent said no... and 4 percent are not sure. we have that poll on the news page of our website, fox5 vegas dot com. new details tonight, about a metro police officer arrested for d-u-i. this same officer was arrested back in 2010, for another incident of driving drunk in a department vehicle. henderson police say officer david denton was involved in a single car crash five years ago. according to his arrest report denton told officers he had a few drinks before the crash. last tuesday, denton was

police say he was off-duty, but still driving a police vehicle. we have an update to a story we brought you as breaking news last night. police are trying to find a person of interest, in a shooting that left one man dead and another critically injured. metro detectives are looking for this man, 37-year- old "gerardo campos-torres." the shooting was just after seven last night, in a neighborhood near rancho and washington. police say the victims approached the suspect, and there was an argument. the suspect shot the two men and took off. police say the shooting might be from a dispute between two families. if you have information on this shooting, call crime stoppers at 702-385-55-55. a burglary this afternoon led up to a serious crash that injured at least six people, including a child. police say the get-a-way car was one of those involved in the crash. "officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, it originally pulled over, and while officers were making an arrest plan the vehicle

the crash happened around one-30, near cheyenne and rancho. police say the car took off, then crashed into another car. the burglary suspects were the people in the other car. also injured. police didn't say how serious the the burglary suspects are now in custody. a woman was when an rtc bus drove up on the sidewalk and hit her. a company that provides contract drivers to the r- t-c says there's a lot to learn from this tragedy. "we take public safety very seriously. we stress it all the time. we take the safety of our drivers, the safety of our passengers, the safety of our public, we continually give safety messages to our drivers on a daily basis. " keolis says their drivers go through extensive training before they can start driving passengers. they're strongly encouraged to call in or go home if they're feeling tired.

school police officer released pepper spray onto a crowd of dozens of students... and it's all caught on camera. fox5's abby theodros joins us with more on what happened. it all started when police say a teen resisted arrest. shortly after a crowd of curious teens surrounded the officer and things got out of hand. take a look at this video. an officer uses pepper spray on a crowd of students at eldorado high school coughing ccsd police say it started when a teen trespassing on the high school campus wouldn't leave when an officer asked. dozens of students watched it all unfold - one student even throwing a rock at the officers head. police say the officer then used the pepper spray to break up the crowd. dalesi contreras -witnessed the event, junior: all of a sudden i see pepper spray and there's wind... it just pushed over here and we were all just coughing. like hectic. everyone was leaving, running we didnt know what was going

was there and says the officer used the spray at least three times - making it difficult to breathe. what if somebody else had athsma or breathing problems and you dont know and hes having an athsma attack right there and he just cant breath. and he's passing out right there. so its like - thats not right. contreras also showed the video to her mother who says under no circumstances should an officer use pepper spray on a child. martha contreras - it infuriates me. i understand he got overwhelmed but maybe he could have differently. not bunch of kids. they're kids. kids will be kids. martha contreras- that gets me really daughter says what if someone what if somebody passed out. what done. i think he handled it a little differently. some students i spoke with also said the student in trespassing and in fact attended the school. police none of the students required medical attention. minor wound on

funeral services for celine dion's husband "rene angelil" will be at the same cathedral where the couple married 21 years ago. according to t- m-z... angelil's service will be at "notre- dame basilica" in montreal next friday. celine dion is also planning a celebration of life service. this will be at the colosseum where she performs. fans can make donations to the azar-angelil research chair for o-r-l cancer. this is a charity angelil helped launch in 2011. republican presidential candidate carly fiorina is spending some of her weekend in nevada. she'll meet supporters at the siena community association here in las vegas at 11 sunday morning. fiorina will then head north to reno, for a three p-m town hall at the lakeridge golf course. the former hewlett-packard c-e-o debated other republican candidates last night in south carolina... but due to lower poll rankings, she didn't make it to the main stage. another supermarket set to shut its doors in the valley.

closing 269 of its stores, including one here on las vegas. the company says competition from all fronts, especially online rival amazon. more than 95 percent of the stores closing in the u-s are within 10 miles from another walmart... and the company says its working to place some of its workers in those locations. here in las vegas, it's the nellis and craig location that will close by seven p-m on sunday. this store has 350 employees. this particular walmart closing here in las vegas is a "super- walmart", and serves as a grocery store for people in this area. it's the only major grocery store within several blocks. nevada has struggled with having several "food desert areas", where communities don't have a supermarket. ten major grocery stores have opened in the last few years, but none in food desert areas. meanwhile, grocery retailers haggen and "fresh and easy" left our market last year. the chief operating officer for las vegas- based allegiant

from the job. allegiant says steve harfst's resignation is effective immedately, but didn't give a reason for his departure. he joined the company in december 2014. allegiant says it's using this leadership change as an opportunity to refocus on its operations and areas for improvement. new life is coming to a condo project that went bankrupt back in 2009, before it was finished. "storybrook homes" broke ground on the "mercer luxury apartment project" today. it's on tropicana and grand canyon drive. the property was bought in 2012, and will be turned into a four-story development with retail on the ground floor. storeybrook's owner say the location is great, and this was the right time to get this project off the ground. i think trend is positive its good. and you do have segment of people who don't want homes. so that's our home building business. they want to rent nice place so that's what were going to give them in marketplace. a dozen marines are missing, after two military helicopters collided thursday night.
