oil prices are the lowest theyve been in more than 10 years... with a barrell of oil going at around 29 dollars in the u.s. "usually when gas prices are 30 dollars a barrel, gas prices get down to a dollar fifty." "and while the price of oil might be down, were not necessarily seeing that reflected, at the pump." " the barrel of oil is lower, so they should give us a break" record breaking low prices are being seen at gas stations across much of the midwest, in michigan one gas station charged just 47 cents a gallon... the national average is around a dollar 89... but las vegas stations are still charging more than 2 dollars. "thats something that trickles over to las vegas because the areas reliance on those southern california refineries." there's good news though, theyre saying while we wont see a drop as steep as the rest of the u.s.... we'll get those low prices, eventually... " it wouldnt suprise me to start seeing a few stations in las vegas that get pretty close to $1.99 in fact some stations already are down to $2.14 a gallon." experts say we could be paying less than two dollars at the pump by mid february, theyre not sure if we will ever get under a dollar though... live, miguel martinez-valle, fox5 news local. las vegas. the national average at the pump right now is one dollar and 89 cents, a price most of us are really looking forward to. a man was hit and killed by a semi- truck this morning near jean... causing major traffic delays.

jean exit just before ten. a fox5 viewer sent us some video of the crash. nevada highway patrol kept a lane closed for the investigation. they did not say if there was any drugs or alcohol involved. and in north las vegas, a neighborhood near lake mead and civic center drive was blocked off, while police searched for a man wanted in a domestic situation. police believe the man took off when officers arrived. no word if anyone else was home at the time. the man was arrested around four this afternoon, and police say no one was hurt. more people are coming forward, to report sexual assault when it happens. the rape crisis center is adding more training sessions for the volunteers needed to support the victims there will be three training sessions this year... up from two previously. volunteers met with 690 victims at the hospital in 2015. that's a 20 percent increase from the year before. the rape crisis center says this doesn't neccessarily mean more people are being assaulted; it means people

for help. the first training session is february 11th, and applications are due january 27th. we have more information on how you can volunteer on the links page of our website, fox5 vegas dot com. it's convention season here in town. this week, 250 thousand people are in las vegas for a number of different shows. the shooting, hunting, and outdoor trade show, or "shot show" is the biggest of the 14 conventions in town this week. visitors from all over the world are at the sands expo center for the show's 15th year in town. others will attend the international builders show at the las vegas convention center. visitors say planes were crowded on the way to las vegas. and even though the strip is more crowded, attendees are still able to enjoy our city while they're here. convention space....which means it has to close its "cirque" show. nevada's first caucus was eight years ago... so it's still new to many in our state. volunteers for presidential campaigns are working hard to teach themselves and voters how this process works. while some people participated in 2008, they might not remember the process very well. we want to make sure they remember there's no early voting, there's no mail-in ballot, you also don't vote with a ballot. volunteers for hillary clinton's campaign are training for the caucus on a weekly basis. they remind everyone you will get a letter in the mail telling you where to go and what time to be there. you then will talk about the issues most important to you, before being physically counted for your candidate. nevada's democratic caucus is february 20th... the republican one is february 23rd. this football weekend was an exciting one.. hail marys.. and wild finishes were part of the games... the odds makers

disappointment in flint michigan... after president obama denied the state's request for a disaster declaration over its water crisis. president obama instead declared the crisis an emergency situation. it's a difference of more than 90 million dollars. michigan was denied the disaster status, because the lead- laced contaminated water is a man- made situation. the city switched water sources back in 2014 as a cost-saving measure, but researchers later discovered the water is highly corrosive. now, people who live here must drink bottled water. the men released from an iranian prison finally had the reunion they've been waiting for... seeing their families for the first time. donald trump is making another campaign stop in nevada. this time, he's holding a rally at the south point hotel and casino. it's thursday at one in the afternoon. doors open at 11. this rally is free, but you'll need a ticket through trump's campaign site to get in. trump met some of his nevadan supporters last week in reno. it cost nevada more than 227 thousand dollars, for the four-day special legislative session to bring faraday future to our state. according to the nevada appeal... that number could go up as high as 250 thousand dollars. this session cost nearly twice as much as a two-day special session in 2014 for tesla. lawmakers approved 215 million dollars in tax breaks for faraday during this december session. every two seconds, someone
