the university and city. unlv closed this deal back in december and now they say the opportunities for growth are endless. this stretch of land doesn't look like much now but a 42 acre land purchase by the university of las vegas could produce something big. reggie riggins, unlv student: unlv is always improving and i think the more they keep moving forward the better. their latest venture towards the future is a $50 million dollar purchase of 42 acres of land along tropicana and koval. the university announced their their campus - land for a new football stadium or a campus village. - daniel tafoy say a sports facility closer to the campus would get more people in stadium seats. right now the rebels play their home games 7 miles from campus. daniel tafoya, unlv football stadium is really far away right now so im go especially considering that i commute to campus already for bio major reggie riggins - a community village that would house research facilities for medical and more than welcome... reggie riggins, unlv student: i think

have a clinic and the public would be would offer more opportunities for unlv students and the las vegas community as a whole. concrete plans for the new land arent officials say it's their purchase since the 1960's when the thomas and mack family accumulated much of the land unlv stands on today. john collier with the company that brokered the deal says he's keeping his eye on a new football stadium. john stater, collier research manager: if they do manage to build a solid stadium - it opens up the possibilities of new stadiums or major changes or championships or major tennis tournaments and things of that matter and of course it im sure it helps retain national finals rodeo who has been looking to expand for a long time unlv officials are also working to use 38 acres of clark county land that is next to their newly acquired property. the county land will connect the university with their 42 acre parcel.

have been cooperating with the federal aviatian administration to make sure they're project doesnt interfere with procedures at mccarran airport. a group of activists and lawmakers are calling on the department of justice to arrest cliven bundy.... and his family. they tell fox 5 theyre concerned the bundys were never prosecuted after their notorious nevada stand off.... and its lead to what's happening in harney county oregon. fox 5's cyndi lundeberg spoke to cliven bundy... and also those leading the charge against him... and has this story. cyndi- nearly two years after the bundy stnad off with the bureau of land management.... reminders like this still remain... but some people say they dont need reminding. these are terrorists... terrorists need to be in prison a group of lawmakers... native americans... and conservationists are calling for cliven bundy... his sons and their militia to be arrested. the paiute tribe says theyre tired of the government's

with the bundy's. fawn if native american people would go into a federal building and take it over we'd be dead douglas and the others petitioned the department of justice to intervene... after bundy's son led an effort to take control of federal land in oregon. this follows a smilar standoff here in nevada in 2014. bundy - they did somethng they had to do it has been extreme but the world has been listening those pushing for bundy to be punished say he is guilty of multiple crimes including allowing his cattle to graze on government land... and say he is responsible for the armed confrontations with officers. it is time for the department of do something about fox 5 spoke to cliven bundy for his arrest... and he says he respects their first amendment rigths to criticize him... but adds his success have helped the people of nevada. very much a success the freeest place on earth to bundy the land oregon... belongs to the people who live their and not the government.

the first house on the block to have a squatter problem, and theyve reached out to the city and police multiple times... neighbors say the suspects took over the house in june, they mentioned hearing a lot of suspicious activity at night, they believed it was drug related... while the swat team found no one in the home during the operation, two of the men did come back later in the night... police have two of the suspects in custody, both are being charged with unlawful occupancy and one is being charged with posession of meth... " we just want to be able to have our children play on the street, and be able to be outside and not have to be constantly worried that something bad is going to happen, because we don't know who they are. i mean especially, you dont really know who anybody is, but you know when theyre squatters, theyre not supposed to be here." once inside the house police say they found evidence of drug use, illegal weapons, and what seemed to them to be a crime lab for forging papers... they say

squatting cases they deal with, illegally taking over a home isnt the only crime people are charged with. police say the process to evict squatters can be complicated... they had to first have the home owner come forward as a victim so they could get a permit to get them out... i'll have more on the investigation tonight at 10... live, miguel martinez- valle, fox5 news. local. las vegas. one man is dead following a shooting in north las vegas last night. metro police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex near cheyenne and nellis.. one man died at the hospital .. another was injured. police do not believe this was gang-related. police believe a third person did the shooting and ran from teh area.

found one of near the shooting scene.. leading to might have been a robbery. remains high... among community. addressed at the veterans community and resource center... near owens and "w're raising awareness and providing solutions for the 22 daily veteran suicides, one of the forms of therapy we are talking about today are the recumbrabt trikes. we use recumbrant trikes as a physical tool to get our veterans out of isolation and help them to avoid depression." it's part of a campaign by the group "forgotten not gone" called "22-damn many". it addressed the grim statistic... that 22 veterans take their own lives each day. the campaign hopes to raise awareness for veterans issue... by cycling 22,222 miles before the first of the year - and veterans day. celine dion's husband, rene angelil, memorialized today. more's sean mcallister is here with the touching tribute from the

son. sean says: john and christine -- it was an extremely emotional two-hour funeral service held today at the notre dame basilica in montreal. the church was filled to capacity as angelil was remembered. and the eulogy came from celine and rene's oldest son, rene charles. rene charles says: 15 years is not a long time for a son to get to know his father. you had a busy life. but we were communicating through golf, hocley, poker and smoked meat. celine did not speak or perform at the service today as some had speculated -- however many of her songs were played. tonight at 6:30 on "more access" -- you'll hear more of that touching tribute that rene charles gave to his father. plus -- the memorial being held here in las vegas. i'm more's sean mcallister for fox5 ws local las vegas. angelil planned

live from las vegas. you're watching fox5 news at six. with emmy award winner john huck. christine maddela. and weather 24/7 with chief meteoroligist ted pretty. this is fox5 news at 6 o'clock. local las vegas. bad weather is making it hard on travelers trying to get in and out of las vegas. at last check there were 11 arrivals from teh east coast cancelled ... and 7 departures. the faa says snow and ice made traffic to chicago difficult... with flights delayed an average of one hour and 52 minutes. wind was also to cancelled flights into san francisco. we found several travelers who have been delayed. "i knew any flight tomorrow was definatly going to

a tragedy is unfolding in canada tonight.. prime minister justin trudeau says five people are dead and two others injured during a school shooting in the canadian province of saskatchewan. a suspect is in custody. the school where this happened has students in 7th through 12th grade. searchers have found human remains at the crash site where a taiwanese airman flying an f-16 went down in arizona. the air force student pilot was training at luke air force base. he was on an air- to-air combat training mission when the jet went down. the pilot's wingman-- an instructor-- reported the crash... and stayed above the scene. the investigation into the cause of the crash continues. a little bit of bright news from wall street to end the week.. stocks closed out their first weekly gain in four weeks, led by a surge in energy

stocks. oil stocks soared friday after the price of crude jumped 9 percent, clawing back more of the ground it has lost since the beginning of the year. the dow jones industrial average rose 210 points, or a little over 1- percent. the s and p closed up around 2- percent on the day. and the nasdaq closed up almost 3-percent. despite the recent stock market drop .. the c-e-o of the nation's largest bank is getting a pay raise. jamie dimon got his first raise in two years from j-p morgan chase. dimon received seven million dollars more last year than in 2014 and 2013. he earned around 27-million last year. dimon's base pay is 1-point-5 million dollars... but his cash bonus is five million dollars and his stock bonus is 20-and a half million. many shareholders objected to dimon's pay package in a vote at last year's annual meeting.. but he got it anyway. next ... not rain .. or snow will stop
