leave for their safety. could the raiders move to las vegas? the meeting today with the team's owner... and why our city might be used as a leverage for the n-f-l franchise. this is fox5 news at 11. local las vegas. two kids robbed at gun point... for their school ipads. share their story with fox 5. i'm christine maddela i'm john huck. we told you about this story last night. a brother and a sister were stopped while on their way to school.. now the school says... they may have to pay for those ipads... fox 5s cyndi lundeberg spoke with the school district... she joins us now with more on what they said... john christine... the family says the kids need the ipads to do their everyday homework... the mom tells me she went to the school to see what could be done so her kids dont fall behind... she says they told her she was going to have to pay. nats opening

erica and nathan hernandez didn't go to class at grant sawyer middle school friday because theyre scared of what might happen... erica- i was scared i might die lorraine- it really changed everything it really did just after 7am wednesday... the sixth and seventh grader were stopped on la palma avenue by two men... cyndi- erica and nathan were walking along this street when they noticed they were being followed once they rounded this corner they tell me the suspects got in front of them and demanded they empty their backpacks erica- first i thought they were messing but then they pulled out the gun and i thought they were going to shoot me and my brother once the suspects were out of sight... the middle schoolers ran home. erica- one was white one was african american and they were wearing hoodies and jeans and one of them had jordans on i dont know what the other one had on because i was focused on the gun being pointed at us erica and nathans mom is terrified. in 2013 a student was killed over his ipad in las vegas...she says that could have been her kids. she says grant sawyer shouldn't be sending

expensive devices that make them an easy target for criminals. lorraine cump: i felt my kids were violated like how dare you do this to two 12 year olds and pull out a gun thats the most i just cant believe someone would do that to kids but that theyre young they dont need that lorraine cumplido says her kids need their ipads to complete their homework... and says the school asked her to pay 150 dollars per ipad to replace them. lorraine cumplido- hopefully it will be retrieved if not i have to get them another one out of pocket which i dont have the money to get them another one c-c-s-d says the family only has to pay if they want new ipads right now.... and adds they hope these stolen ones will be found. cumplido says her kids need their ipads to complete their schoolwork so it puts them in a difficult situation. lorraine - keep them there they took away their lockers so now they have to bring them home i think they should leave them at school so they arent walking abck and forth with these devices i did reach out to

"we're trying to find different place to go to. get out of there. i can stay in hotel for week if need to as long as my family stays safe." last night, a man died at u-m-c, after being shot to death at this apartment complex. police did not say if these two shootings are related. if you have information on either of these shootings, call crime stoppers at 702-385-55-55. a driver crashed into a utility poll early this morning on pecos and owens. metro says this area has recently seen a similar crash. this is the second accident we've had here within a year, same circumstances, high speed into this little pork chop median into the street pole and that was alcohol related also, so that's always suspect to us. metro says the driver was speeding on owens and tried to make a right turn onto pecos. he lost control, and crashed into the poll. a clerk at a nearby seven-11

driver out of his car, and firefighters eventually had to cut him out of it. the driver later died at u-m-c. this is the 10th fatal crash in metro's jurisdiction this year. a disturbing site outside a shopping center this morning. a dead chicken was discovered at a shopping center, and it appeared to have been sacrificed. we do want to warn you, the video might be disturbing. the chicken was found at lamb and sahara. a viewer told fox5 the chicken was on top of a flag surrounded by candles, and the word "isis" was written nearby. metro is investigating, and said the chicken was killed in some sort of witchcraft act. the oakland raiders moving to las vegas sounds like a major stretch. but that didn't stop sheldon adelson from reportedly meeting with raiders' owner mark davis today. fox5's les krifiton has details on this proposed stadium. this vacant lot could one day be transformed into a full fledged state of the art 60,000 plus seat stadium.....a perfect venue for the nfl, if only it weren't in

ew militants at the oregon wildlife refuge released a video today, asking for pardons for everyone involved in the standoff. they say the f-b-i told them no one will go home without any charges. "after they do the investigation, warrants will be flying out left and right, so they can pick us off one by one at our houses, without being stuck with guns. that's what they want, they want us to be separated. " 11 people have been arrested since wednesday, when one of the occupiers lavoy finicum was killed in a standoff. a judge says ammon bundy and the rest will not be released from jail until the standoff ends. the f-b-i is using videos like the one released today to build a case against the group. four people are still occupying national wildlife refuge. a fox5 viewer noticed something strange at the gas when the gas

so fox5 called the state to take action. the numbers kept squeezing the pump carlos abedoy drove up to the mojave and bonanza... just like any other day. nats- cars but when he was done pumping gas, done pumping money out of his pocket. right before i put machine, i looked at the numbers, they were still going. i thought to myself, this has to be "it's going, it's not pumping gas, but it's still going" after recording that video proof, he went in to talk to the cashier. i did not get my money back bc the manager wasn't there fox5 reached out to the department of agriculture. if you think gas pump is faulty, call us and report it. we can send an inspector out immediately. we take things very seriously rebecca allured (allard) told us her department has stickers posted at every gas station, with a number to report faulty pumps. odds are the gas

error in their equipment what happened here is called "pump this particular error was a mechanical error take a look at this pump at the station- now covered and out of service. the department of agriculture sent out a technician to inspect the pump. we're glad to know, so it's tagged and fixed before anyone else uses it again it will be re- calibrated. as for carlos... i don't think i would want to go back to that station every gas pump in the state is inspected once a year, more if report. nevada democrats are for people who to come out and caucus. six caucus sites are planned at casinos to accomodate those who work february 20th. voters wanting to use the sites will have to declare they can't make it home because of their shift.

when you start filing your taxes this year, it's important to remember there are large tax credits available, for lower to moderate income families. a family married with three children if their income 30,000 their tax credit could be up to 6,000 dollars. so that's a substantial amount of money to bring into household and bring back to community. the earned income tax credit is for families making 53 thousand dollars or less. it can zero-out taxes and give families a decent refund. "nevada free taxes coalition" is encouraging

the organization is also helping these families file their taxes for free... and checking for other tax credits. president obama's latest proposal is helping advance equal pay for women. the white house announced a new rule that will require companies to report pay data by gender, race and ethnicity. the rule would apply to companies that have 100 or more employees. the administration said the rule would help aid investigations on employers that are "unlawfully shortchanging workers" based on gender, race and ethnicity. 154 walmarts have either closed, or in the process of doing so around the country. and bargain hunters are taking advantage of the sales... and making some money off them. people are buying up the heavily- discounted merchandise, and re-selling it online at sites like amazon marketplace. they're purchasing everything from beauty products to t-v's, then selling them at the full-price they would be at an open walmart. amazon warns buying items online this way voids the warranty on them.
