we want to get you right to the scene... .. fox 5's miguel martinez-valle joins us live with what happened that led to the man's death. henderson police are hard at work following up with leads and trying to find the person or people responsible for the second homicide of the year... police say they got calls from neighbors of the area about shots fired around 1: 30 this afternoon, when they got to the scene they found a 26 year old man dead... some in the area reported hearing up to 5 gun shots, they say the area has been getting a little more dangerous as of lately. richard heisler, neighbor "theyve had some problems over in those apartments before, it hadnt leaked over here and i dont know if theyve had a shooting or not but yea absolutely, something to be

turning it toward the off-duty officer who ended up shooting him. metro officer samuel solorio fired at least two shots. "what i can tell you is that he did not believe traffic officer did not have any backup as he was on his way home. so decided to assist officer at that time which it sounds good decision at this point." gutierrez is jailed on 77-thousand dollars bail pending a court hearing in two weeks. today marks ten years since metro police sergeant henry prendes was shot and killed. prendes was responding to a domestic violence call and at the time - was the first southern nevada police officer lost in the line of duty in 18 years. since then - his widow dawn has formed the "henry's place foundation" - to create a camp in utah for youth in struggling areas of las vegas. for the first time this year - children will be able to attend the camp with donated

parking - water systems - and electricity have already been installed. a planning commission could approve the lodge this week. a traffic mess late this afternoon on the 95 in henderson. take at look at this video sent to us by jenna zaniroli on reportit. it was recorded around 4.. you can see a tour bus on fire .. this is near college and wagonwheel. firefighters had the flames under control within a few minutes. the nevada highway patrol tells us there were multiple passengers on the bus .. and they were all able to escape safely. at this time we do not know how many people were on the bus - where they were from ... or how the fire started. we've have been hitting the extremes in the past 72 hours going from a high hit 72 .. to a big chill today. it was slow going on interstate 15 just into california over mountain pass. this was after california highway patrol shut down the interstate because of dangerous conditions. we have team

the valley .. and begin with les krifaton. conjure up images of las vegas in your mind and your probably thinking this....not this. yeah it's a little cold cold enough that most of the people we saw downtown were bundled up looking like they were living in a sub zero winter wonderland like chicago, but this is las vegas. the wind and cold air was fierce enough even birds weren't flying. unfortunately these conditions are sticking around. our normal high right now is 60 degrees so we are looking at 10 to 15 degrees below normal the next couple of days. today and tomorrow is going to be just as chilly. while most people have a home to go to stay warm many don't living out on the streets. its times like this that good samaritans like to help the less fortunate. right on the sidewalk they gave me a shave comb my hair look at that i got a beard and everything leo jamishid-afshar then got new clothes from a local shelter to weather the storm and a metro officer also gave him a helping hand

right now .. the iowa caucuses are underway.... with 6 percent of precincts reporting and it's cruz, trump, rubio in that order, leading the way. but caucuses will place here in just a few weeks. fox five's ophelia look at how campaigns are southern nevada support in iowa. were 19 days away from the democratic caucus - 22 days away from our republican caucus. in the nominating process nevada will be the fourth to weightin - and is one of only 13 states that caucus. and each party and campaign here is preparing for it in different ways. "are you planning to caucus" governor mark hutchison spent monday on the question - not to nevadans - "were all depending nevada." but to iowans. like come on and sometimes theyll go who why are you calling me from nevada and then when i explain to them that i am campaign chairman and they say okay

hutchison is leading rubio's team in nevada... and part of that effort is earn a strong showing first - in iowa. "senator rubio does well in iowa does well in nh the momentum rolls and we have a good momentum comig into nevada" nevada is one of only 13 states that holds a caucus - instead of a primary. "caucusing is true democracy at its very grassroots. instead of going into a booth and just pushing a button you go into a precint meetings at your voting place and you meet with your neighbors who are in your precint and talk about the candidates" in nevada's republican caucus - ballots are submitted - all candidates are tallied. the democratic caucus does things a little differently. "the democratic party if you dont get 15 percent of the delegates you're kind of washed out and your delegates have to move to other people." in the nevada state democratic party's office - a mathematics poster - to figure which candidates are dropped that night. this is only nevada's third presidential cycle caucusing.

part of campaigning here - is explaining what caucusing is to begin with. "we have sort of a run down of our caucus procedures key caucus terms."" volunteers for both hillary clinton and bernie sanders are knocking on doors - encouraging participants to come to mock caucuses. reno where people woke us to a lot of ice and some snow on the roads. on the california side near reno .. icy roads led to a 25-vehicle pileup on interstate-80... police shut down the roads for a couple of hours during the worst part of the storm. dozens of veterans cycle through red rock canyon and blue diamond as way of therapy. it's part of the "ride to recovery" annual mountain bike ride. the program says cycling helps veterans with injuries or p-t-s-d. the event hellps raise awareness about their physical and psychological rehab and recovery program. one veteran was also surprised with a custom made hand-cycle... thanks to "lasher sport" which creates custom sports equipment. joe coddington event director, ride 2 recovery "this event is vegas mountain bike smaller. its smaller. we have 40 vets doing this. through united healthcare challenge event series we have bigger events like 200 on the road." the two remaining escaped inmates from orange county, california are back in jail tonight. jonathan tieu and hossein nayeri were captured in san francisco over the weekend after someone flagged authorities reporting a suspicious person and vehicle in a whole foods parking lot. police apprehended nayeri after a and found tieu hiding inside the van. the third year-old bac himself into week. department says the trio broke out of a los angeles jail on january 22 after hatching an elaborate escape plan. a massive fire commercial building in los

you can see the huge flames coming off this building in the glassell park neighborhood.. just north of downtown l-a. propane cylinders and other combustible materials were inside the building and helped fuel the fire. it's not clear how this fire began ... the cause is still under investigation. it appears layoffs are coming to yahoo - a move that could help its c-e-o keep control of the company. but around 15- percent of the 11-thousand plus employees will lose their jobs. it would come following the company's release of quarterly finances. c-e-o marissa mayer has been trying to fend-off a group of angry shareholders. they say in the past three-and-a- half years... mayer hasn't made progress in the attempt to turn around yahoo's financial performance. still ahead tonight ... how you can help protect two local police officers. one of them is in this picture. the simple thing you can do to help this officer's best friend if he's ever in the line of fire.
