i'm christine maddela. this afternoon, a woman lost control of her car and slammed into a bus stop. fox5's cyndi lundeberg joins us now from lake mead and rancho with more on the investigation. the driver of the car lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a man in a wheelchair... i spoke with a state senator who says he wants major changes to las vegas roadways to save lives. thursday around 1:30 p-m a woman hit the median near lake meade and

both her tires..... swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a bus stop where a man in a wheelchair was waiting. lt. david jacoby over those lanes not striking any there was a man bench that was struck wheelchair and was he later died. police about 60 years old. knocked his shoes off scene rushed to save the man.... witness- a woman came by said she was a nurse because the guy was lying she pulled off his shirt out of the car and underneath the car interviewed the woman driving... and are trying to caused her to go the first place. jacoby - it looks like it may have been preventable we dont know what the a car would hit the median area state senator mark manendo says he is currently working pushed back away from roads... wants to slow traffic down in certain areas... and wants to make roads more narrow so drivers have to focus more closely on driving. he says everyday that zero fatalities are reported... it's a good day. mark manendo (d) everyday is a win

metro police do not believe the woman driving was drunk... but they did not rule out distracted driving. reporting live cyndi lundeberg fox 5 news local las vegas metro police on scene tell fox 5 the woman driving is believed to be in her late 20s to early 30s.... and say she fully cooperated with their questioning. metro says they are still looking into what happenned. several witnesses watched as a man was shot and killed at a busy street corner. the shooting happened in a parking lot at rainbow and westcliff, around 12-30. witnesses told police they saw the man waiting in his car, when another car drove up to it. police say the victim got into the grey nissan altima, and there was a fight. witnesses heard gunshots, and saw the victim jump out

" police are looking at surveillance cameras from gas stations and convenience stores. they're trying to find a license plate number, and any other information that will help solve this crime. another man has lost his life... hours after suffering injuries in a shooting. it happened at two-30 this morning, at a home near flamingo and buffalo. the victim was taken to u-m-c where he died. metro believes the victim and suspect knew each other, and say there was a fight before the shooting. police aren't releasing information about the suspect, but they have an idea of who they're looking for. if you have information on either of these shootings, call crime stoppers at 702-385-55-55. a woman accused

car into a crowd on the strip, missed her court appearance because of unruly behavior. everyone in the courtroom could hear screams right outside the door. " screams outside courtroom" lakeisha holloway's attorneys were in the room, along with district attorney steve wolfson. police say holloway killed a woman and injured 35 people in the december crash. her daughter was in the car at the time. holloway's hearing was rescheduled for february 18th. and in another courtroom... the 19-year-old woman charged in a man's death appeared for a status check. police say megan hippie and her boyfriend kyle staats killed a man in a 24-hour- fitness parking lot. the victim, neil gandler, was in town for c-e-s, and police believe the couple tried to rob him before shooting him. a fire at an apartment building tonight started after a cooking incident. clark county fire and rescue says the fire happened at the sage point apartments, on reno near maryland parkway.

two ladder trucks were among the vehicles firefighters brought out to the scene. it took them less than 10 minutes to put the fire out. only one apartment was burned... but others had water and smoke damage. the red cross is helping five displaced people. and two people and five dogs escaped this burning home today. it started this morning around 10-30, at a home near buffalo and alta. las vegas fire and rescue says heavy flames and smoke were blowing out of the windows when they arrived. it took them less than 10 minutes to get the fire out. fire officials say one upstairs bedroom was gutted, and damage was estimated at 40 thousand dollars. marinello school of beauty is shutting down two locations here in the valley... leaving more than 200 local students wondering where they will continue their education. department of education investigators found several violations at marinello, which has locations in 5 states. the department says the school charged studts for excessive overtime, and submitted false job placement rates to students. all of the

closing, and about 800 employees are affected. the local schools here are on bonanza near nellis, and sunset near mountain vista. marinello officials released this statement about the closure: "our students have gone to great lengths to complete their education to better their lives. the department's actions have deprived marinello's students of the opportunity to complete their education at marinello without interruption. marinello also says it's giving students transcripts and information about transfer options. tesla's battery plant here in nevada is creating jobs... but at a slower pace than what was originally expected. according to the nevada governor's office of economic development... 272 people worked at the tesla and panasonic factories by the end of 2015. 700 jobs were projected back in 2014... and lawmakers used that to approve more than a billion dollar tax incentive package for tesla. officials say tesla is building in phases rather than all at once... and it still plans

peak production. a new convention building is coming and this one because it will have a roof-top pool! commissioners approved plans three-story building to be used as a convention space. commissioners also gave wynn las vegas the go- two-story wynn las vegas hasn't released shopping center, to build it. and race fans will have a convenient place to stay... once a new hotel is built near the las vegas motor speedway. c-a-i investments is developing a starwood hotels project at speedway boulevard near the i-15. the hotel will have 125 rooms and will cost 18 million dollars to build. it will include a restaurant and outdoor pool. construction is set to start this july and last at least a year. 59 construction jobs and 29 permanent jobs will be created. north las vegas police are joining other law

a year, but are always on alert in case they are needed. for these exercises, we usually know ahead of time. but if this was a real- world situation, we'd have 6 hours to respond, everyone would have to be at our armory to take care of the situation about 40 nevada national guard soldiers also left for a nine-month deployment to africa today. they'll install, operate, and maintain communications systems in the area. last month, nevada sent out more than 200 guard members to the middle east. officials say about 10 percent of nevada's soliders are now on deployment. a young girl thought she was going to a disney drawing demo, as part of a make-a- wish program. instead, she was surprised with the gift of a lifetime. ariez has been fighting kidney disease for much of her life. this make-a-wish surprise took a lot of teamwork to pull off. "magical memories" at town square had a painting made of mickey and minnie in london. frozen's anna and elsa helped present the prize disney artists were there too, along with paige o'hara... the original voice of "belle" from beauty and the beast. and as you can see, it was a touching moment for everyone. it was hillary clinton verses bernie sanders tonight on the debate stage in new hampshire. and it didn't take long for it to get heated. the candidates sparred over wall street, their credentials, and who's the more progressive candidate. sanders spoke about not having a super pac... and clinton distanced herself from wall street money. healthcare was also a big talker... with both candidates passionately arguing their points of view. "the republicans want to repeal the affordable care act. i want to improve it. i want to build on it, get the cost down, get the prescription drug cost down. senator sanders wants us to start all over again."
