for hours, metro police and swat took over a neighborhood ... trying to find someone possibly involved in a kidnapping! how they resolved the situation. the night the light's whent out at the westgate.. was also the night the slots shut down with players money trapped inside! how the casino is making sure their cash is returned. this is fox5 news at 6. local. las vegas we begin tonight with a troubling arrest and investigation involving a father ... and the death of his son. i'm john huck. i'm christine maddela. the 12-year-old shot and killed himself last saturday. now -- his father is in custody and facing charges. fox five's miguel martinez-valle is live at metro headquarters. miguel, you talked to police today about those charges. a very tragic story, the family of the 12-year-old who shot himself is actually on their way to arizona right now for his funeral,

joining them since hes currently behind bars... olin manuel was arrested on february 17th for child abuse with substantial bodily harm resulting in death and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. metro says on february 13th metro police got a call about a child shot, when they got there they found a 12 year old hurt by a gun shot... he later died at the hospital, and it was determined that he shot himsel..f. " the shooting was a result of a self inflicted gunshot injury from the 12 year old to himself, but through the investigation it was later learned that the father had acquired that fire arm and had that fire arm in the residence that the child used to shoot himself. " by the abuse and neglect detail of manuel was prohibited from owning a gun, but metro couldn't say why that was the case... they also couldn't specify about the child abuse charges... they said the investigation is

details of his arrest will be given in the arrest report. i spoke to the family over the phone earlier today, they say they dont know how the gun got in the house, but they say it wasnt manuel's live, miguel martinez-valle, fox5 news. local. las vegas. police say properly storing guns is crucial for gun owners in order to prevent tragedies like this one. north las vegas police are adressesing two separate cases of child abuse. police say a five- month-old boy died on february fifth .. he had major trauma to his head and bone fractures. cynthia lavender was the child's babysitter and good friends with the mother. lavender told police she became frustrated with the child back in january and threw him against a wall and dropped him on a hard floor. in the other child

seventh-month- old boy was left with brain damage. police say alejandra robles is an unlicensed caretaker and was watching the child at the time. she told detectives she threw the baby in the crib out of frustration. robles says she called 9-1-1 when the child stopped crying. both women are charged with child abuse. lavender also faces a murder charge. two women are dead - and a man in the hospital - after an argument leads to gunfire near the strip. police say it began with a confrontation... at the planet hollywood parking garage - around 1-30 this morning. later - shots were fired from one car to another - just west of the strip - near alderbaran avenue. the car hit then turned to the valet area of the cosmopolitan for help. when police arrived - one of the women was found lying in the room. we have exclusive pictures and video you'll see only on fox five tonight. les krifaton joins us live from the strip. the man we talked to said he had

1:30 in the morning followed by a hovering helicopter and then multiple sirens getting louder. that's when he got out his camera and started shooting the scene from where he was. i heard gunshots, five shots, slight i heard gunshots, five shots, slight pause and two more shots. this fox5 viewer after hearing the shots and then sirens grabbed his camera went to his window and and started taking pictures of metro officers hovering over something in the middle of the road. i had no idea that was a body. not until he looked at the pictures and decicded to switch to shooting video. he managed to capture officers combing the area looking for evidence as to what went down. the woman according to metro was one of two women killed after fight broke out in the parking garage at the miracle mile shops at planet

quickly and broke up the fight according to metro. those involved then got in their cars left the garage and drove off on harmon heading toward alderbaran where the shots were fired and the body of the woman was found on the street. police say around 1:33 in the morning they were called to the cosmopolitan after receiving reports of a man and woman found shot inside a vehicle in the valet area. both were rushed to hospital where the woman was pronounced dead the man at the time was reported to be critical. the woman who was found on the road at alderbaran was pronounced dead at the hospital although our viewer suspects she may have died at the scene. i don't witness these things very often but i would say they were very calm, very professional, seemed almost routine to them police say footage from the parking lot at miracle mile shops connects the two people found at the cosmopolitan to the woman who was found on the street at alderbaran. what we still don't know or police aren't saying is whether the pair in the car

were with the other woman and end up on the street. cops say they are looking for a black male adult in his 20's who was driving a dark gray 2015 toyota camry. a man and woman in custody this evening... after police say a kidnapping attempt lead to a swat team standoff. it happened in a usually quiet neighborhood near cheyenne and fort apache. fox5's abby theodros was there today - and explains what happened - live from the newsroom. police still are not telling us all the details, but they say a woman was held against her will inside a home near cheyenne and fort apache. metro police got a

this morning of a reported kidnapping in northwest las vegas. nats sounds of sirens at a home near cheyenne and fort apache. that's where police say a woman was held against her will. jimmy brown - neighbor . it kind of made my heart drop a little bit because i have my whole fmaily in there. my mom lives right up on grand canyon and i have a friend who lives right behind me over here. she escapes and gets help from a neighbor but police were just starting their investigation. jesse roybal: detectives had swat serve a search warrant at that residence in question. through the course of the investigation we determined that some of those suspects may have been located at a location on broad river. that search led another house a near rainbow. that's where they were able to arrest one suspect. however - the other suspect got away. neighbors saw him jumping fences and yards in the man who asked to remain anonymous says he saw the man running away from police. neighbor/anonymou s: he basically ran up to my gate and started shaking my gate really hard. but instead just

know where he went. he must of went through my back yard. it's still unclear if the vicitm knew the suspects - or if the suspects had ties at the second location. however - police did say this... roybal: this suspect showed how willing he was to escape and that was entering an innocent persons home. and so we're very grateful that our officers were in the area and were at that location and were able to take that suspect into custody with out any harm coming to anyone the second suspect was eventually caught by police. officials say this is an ongoing investigation. reporting live in the news room abby theodros fox5news local las vegas. police tell us the victim did not require any medical attention. the westgate left in the dark... after losing power to part of the resort - including the casino floor. many slot players were left with no cash in hand .. and waiting for their money which was stuck inside slot machines. fox 5's ophelia young is outside the westgate - after walking

afternoon. yes i did a walk through around noon and it seems they had just turned the last slot machines on - the casino floor was still roped off while staff members were walking from machine to machine figuring out how much to pay players back. this 12 hours after what guests call panic and chaos. nat of video people walkinig around this is a video sent to fox 5 from a westgate hotel and casino guest - it shows dozens of people wandering through the dark casino floor around midnight. thats when guests say the power went out - "it was crowded its a casino peopel was ganbling people was on the slot machine the fuse just blew like it just went out." staff told guests a bunch of wires blew up. in fact smoke from those wires prompted clark county firefighters to rush into the hotel. on the casino floor guests were left literally in the dark. "everyone was shocked they couldnt believe it."

cash vouchers to return to players. a gaming expert says electronic slot machines are computers - retaining information even after a hard boot. make says the casino apologized to him with a 50 dollar restaurant voucher. but it doesnt make up for the 140 - stuck in a machine. "i need my money like wheres my money." and i checked in with make again - and he's upset. he says the floor has been open up - people are back on the machines but he still hasn't gotten his money back. casino staff are saying they need to review camera footage before they refund him. we asked the westgate to speak

police say a motorcyclist and the driver of a car involved in a deadly crash should not have been on the road. the motorcyclist was killed.. today the coroner identified him as 19-year-old kristian mamian- melo. the crash happened around eight last night on washington between jones and decatur. the 19-year old rider did not have a motorcycle license and the teen driver on the car only had an instruction permit. beginning tomorrow .. there will be 62 more metro officers wearing body cameras. the new officers just graduated. and it's metro's policy now that any new officer to the force will be issued and required to use a body camera. there are already many officers wearing the cameras who were
