the man charged in a deadly shooting just off the strip last week... was in court today. omar talley told a judge he needs time to hire a lawyer to represent him on felony murder, attempted murder and weapon charges in the early friday shooting. his next court date is march second. talley is accused of shooting at a car on harmon just west of the strip.... killing two woman - and sending one man to the hospital. police tell us they have security video showing talley fighting with the man minutes earlier - in a parking garage at the miracle mile shops at planet hollywood. talley reportedly told detectives he was too drunk and high on marijuana to remember anything. a felony record is the reason behind a local father being arrested in his son's suicide. this video shows olin manuel during his court appearance on monday. an arrest report shows he was convicted of grand larceny in 2014 and on probation. police believe he bought a springfield 45 caliber gun from a former coworker. that same gun

12-year-old son when he shot himself in the head earlier this month. the report shows the boy had been isolating himself prior to his death... and was just getting his privileges back after he was disciplined for having marijuana. a truck hit a local couple while they were out walking their dog. the couple is now in the hospital recovering tonight. jerry largusa is in serious condition... his wife, flora, is in critical condition. the two were walking near rainbow and del rey around 5:30 this morning. they were in a marked crosswalk when a dodge ram pick-up hit them. the driver stayed on the scene. a syphilis outbreak has been declared in the las vegas area. the southern nevada health district says clark county has seen a 128 percent increase in reported syphilis cases since 2012. 89-percent of those cases involved men diagnosed in 2015. people are being urged to get tested for the treatable disease - which if left alone - could affect internal organs

neurological problems. it can also increase the risks of hiv transmission. the c-d-c notes there is ahuge increase in syphilis cases across the country. a dramatic training drill... right by the strip this morning. firecrews from across the country are in town... training on the high roller. orlando and new york city based crews were at the linq this morning for special "high angle" training. he teams rappelled from the pods - and ziplined across the wheel. roughly 30 thousand dollars was spent on safety gear at the high roller, including ropes, harnesses and trolleys to ensure a safe rescue in case of an emergency. fire crews say this kind of action is only a last resort... if someone gets stuck on the high roller.

his father, rancher cliven bundy, is being held for the standoff with the blm in 2014. three of eleven people arrested yesterday... in a food stamp fraud case in southern utah... have pleaded not guilty. two women and a man appeared in court today... after yesterday's raid of locations in hildale... near the utah-arizona border. they are among eleven people are accused of diverting at least $12 million worth of federal benefits by telling hundreds of members to buy things and give them to a church warehouse or using the food stamps in stores without actually getting anything in return. "diverting benefits that were intended for poor individuals or families into a church store house and diverted the use of those benefits to others or for unintended beneficiaries or for purposes that were unauthorized or unintended. " two group leaders have also pleaded not guilty. five of those indicted have not yet been arrested.

recovering from severe burns... after he says an e-cigarette exploded in his pocket. as jonathan mcember shows us, the incident was caught on video... near louisville, kentucky. it's a constant flow, customers come and customers go, its like that all day long at the new hartford road shell gas station. the employees say the constant stream of traffic never brings anything out of the ordinary. that's until, saturday morning. this is surveillance video given to us by the gas station owner. owensboro resident josh hamilton is seen making a quick stop to by snacks. as hamilton walks over to the cashier jassie singh, to pay, hamilton says an e- cigarette battery in his pocket explodes. (jassie singh, gas station employee) "he was giving me money. he put his hand in his pocket and suddenly there was a blast in his pocket. there was fire. big fire and he was burning." (manoj kumar, gas station employee) "i was shocked! i was like what was that? you have a bomb in your pocket? i was like that! you carry your bomb in your pocket? i was totally shocked and just like this my hands were on my head." hamilton runs
