when lawerence artis went to sleep saturday - he didn't expect the early morning wake up call 6 lawrence artis: i heard something go "pap, pap, pap, pap" then you heard something go (in audible) then later you heard screeching i come out of my house and theres a car near the end of my block 15 artis asked fox5 to hide his identity but said last night's deadly drive by was the worst thing he's seen in his four years living along decatur. 8 abby: how many gun shots did you hear? lawrence artis: i would say maybe the first round could have been six to seven and then the second one i couldnt count.. because that was more automatic.9 abby theodros stand up: police say the victims were travelling southbound on decatur thats when the suspect confronted them firing several rounds into their car near hayes place. the suspect then sped off. the victims came to a rest here on ever green.12 police say a woman was found dead in that car. and another victim was taken to umc for treatment. 6

police were dragging the passenger dude out of the car and putting him in an ambulance 4 the shooter is believed to have been in a dark colored car when the shots were fired but not much else is known about the supsectf or what prompted the fatal gun shots. 10 no arrests have been made and police are still in the early phases of their investigation. they say havent ruled out road rage or whether or not the suspect and victims knew one another. and coming up at 10:30... a suspect is still on the run after an argument at a party turns deadly. officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex around 8-30 last night near owens and h street. police say two men were found with gunshot wounds. both were taken to u-m-c. one of them died... and the other was treated for his injuries. police say the victims and suspect got into a fight at a party when shots were fired. the gunman took off before officers got there. police have not

motive was. anyone with information about this shooting should call police or crimestoppers at 7-0-2-3-8-5-55-55. it's been a busy weekend for several fire departments around the valley. seven people including children will have to stay somewhere else after their home caught on fire. the henderson fire department responded around 6-30 last night near sunset and boulder highway. crews were able to keep the flames from spreading outside the garage. two adults and five children were able to escape smoke detectors. firefighters say a pet rabbit died from smoke inhalation. cross is helping the family. the cause of the fire was an electrical problem in the garage.. the estimated cost of damage is around 90- thousand dollars. from two departments fight an apartment fire. flames could be seen around ten vegas valley and parkway. crews from clark department and rescue were able to put it out in 25 minutes. no one was hurt. this is the second fire at this

past few months. the cause of the fire has not been released. another fire happened just after midnight near valley view and alta. las vegas fire and rescue says it started in a storage area outside the house. the homeowner tried to put it out with a garden hose. crews say it spread from the outside of the home to the attic. firefighters were able to control it in ten minutes. no one was hurt. the american red cross is helping one person. the cause has not been determined. temperatures remaining above normal into next weekend when nascar returns to las vegas. how long would it take you to climb the stairs of the stratosphere tower? it took this man seven minutes and 22 seconds! this is 44-year-old sproule love from new york. he is this year's winner of "scale the strat". sproule also won last year with the same exact time. more than 600 climbers took part in the extreme stair climb. the stratosphere tower is 108 floors with more than 14-hundreds steps! it's the highest building west of mississippi river. the event benefits the american lung state. it was a record- year of climbers more than 215- has been donated. if you build it... they will come. hundreds of tech enthusiasts in the valley show off their inventions.

local las vegas. this is fox5 news at 10. local. las vegas. police are searching for answers after a woman was shot to death... and another person was injured in a drive-by. fox5's abby theodros joins us live near decatur and alta -- where this happened. abby? police say this all happened on decatur near hayes street then ended on ever green. lots of unanswered questioned tonight but neighbors say this isn't the first time something like this has happened. a neighbor i spoke with said back in november the person who delivers her newspaper was shot during a delivery along decatur near alta drive. she says while these situations are disturbing she's learned to take them in stride it's a good neighborhood. no matter what neighborhood you're in something happens whether it's break-ins or whatever we don't even bat an eyelash tonight we knocked on a lot of doors hoping to get some

people said they were asleep when the shooting happened around 2 in the morning. police are still investigating but what we know now is that a suspect approached the victims car near hayes place and fired several rounds into the car. the suspect then left the scene in a dark colored car. the victims came to a rest a few short blocks away on evergreen. we still don't know what prompted the shooting. police are looking into whether or not the victims new the gunman. anyone with information about this shooting should call police or crimestoppers. to national headlines now... a virginia police officer is dead after her first day on the job. police say she was shot and killed during a domestic disturbance call. fox's kristin fisher reports on the latest in the investigation. the shooter's been identified as staff sergeant ronald hamilton. 32-years-old. he was assigned to the pentagon. and now -- he's

marine veteran who was working her very first shift as a police officer. 28-year-old ashley gwin-den had just been sworn in on friday. the prince william county police deparment posted this picture with the caption... "welcome officers steven kendall & ashley gwin-den who were sworn in today & begin their shifts this weekend. be safe!" less than 24- hours-later... officer gwin-den was dead. "she was not only driven and passionate, but exceedingly intelligent. she struck us that way as we interviewed her, prior to hiring and rehiring her, it's always the type of officer we are seeking, that type of passion and intelligence." officer gwin-den -- and two other officers -- were responding to a call about a domestic disturbance at a home in woodbridge, virginia. that's about 20 miles south of washington, d.c. police say -- when they approached the front door -- the suspect opened fire. all three officers were hit. officer gwin-den died at the hospital. the other two are still there -- recovering. as for the suspect -- staff sergeant hamilton surrernded without further incident. when officers were finally able to search his home... they found his wife -- dead. they also found the couple's 11-year-old son... scared, but not hurt.

facing several charges. including -- first degree murder of his wife... and capitol murder of a police officer. this isn't the first tragedy for officer gwin-den's family. her father -- who was in the national guard -- committed suicide after returning from iraq now this... the suspect is due in court tomorrow morning. police say the suspect is a member of the army and works at the pentagon. he's being held without bond. three middle- school students spiked their teacher's soda with red pepper flakes. now they face felony charges. it happened at a middle school in florida. police say two girls poured the pepper in their teacher's drink while another distracted her. the teacher jayne morgan suffered a shortness of breath... sore throat... and stomach pains. police say all three students did this in retaliation for a past incident. the teacher sent one of the girls to the principal's office for dumping glue into another student's backpack... and for suspicion of stealing a laptop. one of the girls told police the original plan was to vandalize the teacher's car with paint. all three girls were charged with poisoning and
