border near primm. fox 5s eric hilt is live at mlk and lake mead where a vigil was held tonight. it was a very emotional scene as this parking lot filled up with people sharing memories about the seven year old killed in this crash for many of the dozens of people at the vigil -- it still doesn't feel real "i feel like it's a dream, i really do" on wednesday - spencer was riding in a semi truck ok interstate 15 near the nevada- california border -- when the truck crashed into the back of another semi. dj was pronounced dead at the scene. "i screamed no no no. i just, i was just totally at a loss, there's no words to describe the pain i'm feeling and will continue to feel" tonight family and friends came to ether to help eachother through that pain -- and to grieve together. california high patrol says the driver of the semi dj was riding in may have fallen asleep at the wheel leading to the crash. a former football player for u-c davis is accused of beating a man during a confrontation on the strip last weekend. according to an arrest report... 24-year-old london lacy punched and kicked an intoxicated man at the hilton grand vacations. police say lacy wa "throwing the man around like a rag doll". lacy was a reserve quarterback for u-c davis from 2010 t0 2014. he now faces attempted murder and battery charges. his bail was set to 50-thousand dollars a suspect in a deadly shooting outside an apartment complex has been arrested. 28-year-old bryant metcalf was taken into custody yesterday... in connection to the shooting death of a man two months ago. police say there

complex when a gunshot was fired. metcalf faces one count of murder in first degree. a suspect robs a seven-eleven... shoots at a police officer... then runs into a strip casino. part of it was caught on surveillance video! fox five's abby theodros shows us how police officers were able to capture him. take a look at this surveillance video- it shows the moments leading up to a suspected robber shooting at a police officer twice lt. glen lowe: the vehicle was struck the officer was lucky that he wasn't struck also. the guy was very violent felon and he was willing to shoot at police to get away police say it all happened around three this morning at the 7-eleven on twain and maryland parway. police say 23 year old lawrence manriquez walked in the convenience store.. fired his weapon and took off with cash and a clerk's wallet. police say manriquez took off to a side street near desert inn and paradise where he shot at an officer. joey jendras, lives near scene at desert in. and paradise: i knew it had to be pretty serious joey jendras lives near that scene. he says the street was packed with police all morning jj: helicopters were circling overhead, and three four five police cars. all with their lights blaring down the street. nats siren after manriquez shot at the responding officer - police say the suspect took off amd eventually crashed his tahoe near sands and koval. but it doesnt stophe lt lowe: he ran from the car and ran to the wynn casino and at that time the officer followed him and notified wynn security. security located him hiding and they were able to take him into custody w out incident at fox five news manriquez was booked for several charges including robbery and burglarly with a deadly weapon... and attempted murder of a police officer a death penalty trial has been pushed back for the man accused in the shooting death of a store clerk he used to work with. trial was set to start next week

next year. police say he shot and killed antonino isnit during a robbery at walgreens in december 2014. ackerman pleaded "not guilty" to murder... kidnapping... armed robbery... and burglary with a weapon charges. a man is critically injured after being stung by hundreds of bees... and the bees were still out there today! fox five's miguel martinez valle spoke with neighbors who witnessed the attack. sot : " it was definitely one of the most horrific things i have ever a man swarmed and stung by hundreds of bees one woman saw the attack, and while she opted out of showing her face, she did want to share her story... " get a blue towel and he was trying to get them off he was screaming and i couldn't even see his face there were so many bees" she quickly called the police she says the man being attacked wasn't wearing protective gear but he did seem to be working with two others who were covered. there was no logo on the truck they were working out of and they were just vacuuming the bees. she thinks they might of been an unlicensed exterminator. "once he fell and

fighting that's when one of the guys that had the head suit on walked over and sprayed him with something" she says by then he wasn't moving... the man was rushed to a nearby hospital with life- threatening injuries. the bee problem didn't end there. "the bees were still pretty agitated and at that point they were in my backyard and whenever you stepped outside the bees were on you" sean paxton, neighbor "a couple of neighbors got stung one of my friends that i work out with at the gym got stung he says the bees were pretty aggressive" ((edit: video of delcon truck)) a different company named delcon was called hours after the attack to take care of the hive. they stress the importance of calling a licensed company. "you should never attempt to treat a swarm of bees or a bee's nest on your own, don't ever spray it with water or throw rocks at it." the bees are still around today and neighbors feel that the county or the housing association should let the neighborhood know to stay away from the area. "there definitely should be some kind of warning signs

to not make any noise to be very careful because they do look very aggressive" mmffnllv clark county officials warn that if you encounter bees -- stay clam and quietly move away to find shelter. they say screaming or trying to fight them can make them more agitated. an active shooter drill is preparing law enforcement in case of an emergency. it was all just a demonstration... but we want to warn you some of the video is graphic. local agencies like metro police... city marshals... north las vegas and henderson police and fire teamed up for the event. the drill ensures that all agencies can communicate effectively to keep as many people safe as possible. "music then fence collapses." a railing collapses at a snoop dogg and wiz khalifa concert in new jersey. it happened at the "b-b and t pavilion" in camden. more than 42 people were injured... after falling more than ten feet on a concrete pathway. police say people were pressing against the railing the law from inside seating. officials say the injuries were minor. the concert was stopped after the accident. an outbreak of "super lice" is sweeping nearly every state... and doctors say there could be an increase when school starts. "people that live in close proximity to each other. so you see it a lot in school aged children because they're close to eachother. the super lice are resistant to treatments used for normal lice. doctors at "the childrens hospital

in nevada yet... but there's plenty of cases involving regular lice. doctors advise parents to only treat children that actually have lice.... and not to use medication as preventative measures. 86 students walked across a stage to get a special diploma today. they graduated the job discovery program with the help of opportunity village. " this is a big day for our graduates" students with intellectual disabilities spend nine weeks working at non- profits around the community. they get job training in fields like commercial kitchen... maintenance... retail... and child care. "this is really what we work for here. we want everybody to be competetively employed. we understand that some people can't be. we're going to take an individual and move them as far as they can go along that spectrum but the goal is to get them out there and get them a job the president of opportunity village says they

thousands of homeless high school students will have everything they need for the new school year. today -- volunteers with "homeaid southern nevada" put together thousands of backpacks filled with school supplies and hygiene kits. they were able to collect more than 37-thousand dollars in donations last month to make this happen. ten-thousand dollars will go to scholarships. it's part of their "back to school drive". the backpacks will go to students at the non-profit "project 150" -- which serves homeless high school students throughout our state. and speaking of school supplies... we need your help! fox five is working with subaru of las vegas... n-v energy... and henderson hospital...for our annual supply drive. we want to make sure students have what they need to be successful this school year. the supply our students drive runs august 15-th through the 17-th. here's a list of some of the supplies we need. our goal this year is to fill 3- thousand backpacks for students in need. you can donate

students are fed up with their school's lack of air conditioning. so they created a "fresh prince" parody video to bring attention to the issue. mike anderson shows us which famous t-v host the students hope will see it. (nats) it's been a long hot summer for everybody at sherman park lutheran school. so hot they're rapping about it. (nats) the half century old building has no central air and they rely on portables old. (shaun luehring school administrator) "it is warm all the time, so they just get used to sweating to make it through the day." so the kids, along with some help from their teachers have done a parody on a will smith rap song from the 80's in hopes of raising funds to bring central air to the school. special thank you from the community today... or rather seven hundred thank you's. a henderson hallmark store started the "thank our blue" program three weeks ago. customers poured in with support....writing thank you notes to local police...when they purchased a greeting card. the store's manager says people from all over the city in and shared personal stories with their connection to police. " hallmark really wants to be out there making a difference, in everyday living, everyday life and keep the world emotionally connected and through a card you can do that" seven hundred cards will be displayed at metro's eight area commands... for officers to enjoy reading messages of gratitude and support. some party animals celebrating hard at the mirage on their birthday. the new additions

garden turned one years old today! meet "hirah" and "maharani". the girls ripped into their gifts... which had watermelons inside! they also played with paper-mache pinatas. guests were also treated to cookies decorated with a white tiger face. and from tigers to lions... the lion habitat ranch in henderson is hosting a deal over the weekend. kids fourteen and under get in for free. the special starts now through monday. the lion habitat ranch is home to more than 40 lions... as well as "ozz many of the lions are retired from the m-g-m grand habitat... and rescued from local and national zoos. the habitat is on bruner avenue near "the m" resort. it's open from 10 a-m to 1-30 p-m. happy birthday, caesars palace! which iconic singers came out to celebrate the hotel's fifty years in las vegas... and we'll show you the fireworks display. and... going for gold. you can now place your bets on the rio 2016 olympics in nevada...

caesars palace hosted a star- studded event. tonny bennett... wayne newton... donny and marie were some of the surprise guests. and speaking of fireworks... the "rio 2016 olympics" kicked off the first night with a fireworks display. the best athletes around the world are going for the gold! more than 60- thousand fans came out for the opening ceremony. and many have placed their wagers at local sports books for the rio olympics. this is the first time in sixteen years you can bet on the games. the nevada gaming control board legalized wagering on the summer games in february of last year. the executive director of race and sports operations at the wynn las vegas says the olympics fits in at a good time. "its in mix of not only baseball but preseason football so it takes a little away from it but its still a filler for rest of summer
