up to cost solar customers big money. but as claudia cowan explains - some people who do not use the power of the sun say it's a subsidy they're happy to see go away. every year, nevada homeowners spend $16 million dollars to help subsidize 17-thousand customers who've put solar panels on their roof. but not for much longer: in a controversial move, the state's public utility commission, or p-u-c, is phasing out that subsidy over the next 12 years: take nats of hear one more time for solar! (crowd chanting)" solar customers in nevada are blasting the state's decision to phase out net- metering: the incentive program that re-imbursed residential customers at retail rates for excess power generated by their rooftop panels. heine says: "the p- u-c and governor sandoval have backstabbed us and have gone against us the little person...." according to solar activists, the new rules mean customers' utility bills will increase by 50%, and some will end up paying

solar. many homeowners said they wouldn't have shelled out thousands of dollars to install rooftop panels if they'd known they'd be hit with high fees, and blame the nevada public utility commission for what they call a bait and switch: thomsen says: "we don't hate solar... " paul thomsen, head of nevada's p-u-c, says the net metering perk was unfair because it meant homeowners who didn't have solar panels were subsidizing those who did: thomsen says: "as the rooftop solar du larger and larger, we've seen this subsidy grow.. what started as a legislative policy to kick start the industry, now 18 years later, it's time for that industry to stand on its own two feet." gray says: "this warehouse used to be completely full of solar panels and inverters.." but as a result of the new policy, many solar companies say they've having to down-sizing due to a lack of customers, and several, including solar city, have stopped doing business in the state, eliminating more than 500 jobs.

solar activists are now hoping state lawmakers will allow customers who went solar before the puc's decision to be able to keep the rates they signed up for... and... they're fighting the new policy in the courts... it's a legal battle other sunny states like arizona and california are watching closely. in reno, nevada, claudia cowan, fox news. an attempt to put the issue on the ballot this november - was recently shot down by the state supreme court. one of the reasons given... was that the language was misleading. a gun made from a 3-d printer was found inside someone's carry- on luggage at the reno-tahoe international airport. the gun was just one of sixty-eight weapons discovered in carry-on bags nationally the week of august fourth. the t-s-a says the gun was a realistic replica of a legitamite weapon and was loaded with live ammunition. the passenger carrying the gun was given the option to check in the weapon... but the person chose to leave it behind and was not arrested or cited for bringing it to the airport.

good news for people who follow a mediterranean- style diet. it may memory and thinking skills. researchers looked at eighteen studies on how the mediterranean diet affects cognitive function. they found participants who followed it more closely - had less decline in the thinking and memory skills... including long- term and working memory.. they were also less likely to develop alzheimer's disease compared to those who had lower adherence to the diet. these people also had improvements in attention and language. if you want to stick with cookies... there's a tasty new option on the way.

"i would rather not evacuate all my animals so in trying to stick it out and hang on and if we've gotta we've gotta go were ready to go if we have to go

"i came back because i was fearful of looters going through my house because my front door wouldn't lock but i fixed it this morning." while the fire seems far away fire officials know things could change quickly the main difference from monday -- the terrain where the fire is burning. "more trees more foliage which is also more fuel and not only that but once you get the fire into the trees you can have it torch it and go from one tree to the next. we like to keep the fire on the ground which is better that way." the number of firefighters working to contain the pilot fire has doubled since monday. with more on the way. poole says even though it might seem far away now he says everyone under mandatory evacuations should leave.
