to a secure retirement, because he's part of the problem in washington. afscme people is responsible for the content of this ad. live from las vegas fox5 news at 6 starts now. the sound of children playing -- hushed at a local daycare. the mistake that workers made when one little boy was seemingly forgotten about in the heat. a little surprise came in the form of two eyes, a little nose and seven pounds aboard a plane to las vegas. the discovery of this service limitations that come with having one. and hear exactly what police are saying a man wanted -- when he semi-successfully scaled new york's trump tower-- before police yanked him in through a window. this is fox5 news at 6. local. las vegas a 20-month-old left outside in triple digit temperatures. it happened at "kidz kidz kidz" preschool in southern highlands. now the state has shut down that preschool.

read through the investigation report... and has more on the incident that cost the childcare facility its license. there have been employees here at kidz kidz kidz today but as you can see the doors are locked and those workers told me they are not talking about the incident or having their license revoked... but report from the nevada department of public and behavioral health that documents that incident where a 20-month-old was left outside alone in temperatures higher than 100 degrees. the boy was found unresponsive and dehydrated with burnon investigators say workers waited 16 minutes to call 911 after finding the boy and 45 minutes to call the child's parents they also say a division approved director was not at the preschool at the time of the incident there's no word when or if the school will reopen or if it will the decision to have its license taken away. eh f5n llv according to the report - workers waited 16 minutes to call 911... and

parents. a frontier flight from columbus ohio to las vegas hit a bit of a speed bump when someone on the flight crew discovered a small monkey on board the plane. it turns out it was a service monkey but the owner never let the crew know. fox5's abby theodros is live in the newsroom where she's been gathering more information about what happened. we spoke with the passenger who sat next to the pair and he says the monkey was tucked away under the owner's shirt and that it was so s flight crew had no idea until half way through the flight this marmoset you're looking at right now is about the same size as the monkey discovered on the frontier flight. its about 7 inches...and two pounds. the man also had the documentation to prove the monkey was a service animal. we asked a few people at the petstore...what would you do if you saw a tiny monkey on a plane..take a listen susan jaramillo: "its depends on the monkey. if its a pet, i might be a little edgy about it. unless it's a

next week is 102. a man accused of killing his father will spend at least ten to 25 years behind bars. "eugene tshiyombo" learned his sentence in court today. he will be eligible for parole after ten years. back in december -- police say

into an argument with his 68-year- old father... then shot him. the man's mother pleaded for mercy for her son. she says there was a history of abuse in the family. "my husband not bad person. but he took control of him. he was only one who was happy in our house..." "as his mother i want the best for him, and with the help of god, i have been believing. i understand why he did what he did." tshiyombo apologized in court. he says he will use his time in prison to become a better person... and a better son. a homeowner in a gated community shoots a burglarly suspect in his home. it happened around eleven last in the "hillsboro heights community" on valle verde and windmill. police say the homeowner heard his security alarm go off... then found the burglar inside. a shot was fired...

suspect in the head. police say the suspect took off... before being caught by officers. the burglar was taken to sunrise hospital with minor injuries. the homeowners were not hurt. students from a local gaming school got a big shock when they found a notice on the door saying it was closed. we stopped by the "gold star school of gaming" on spring mountain and torrey pines. a note gave directions to call the "nevada commission on post secondary education". we called twice and left messages... but no one returned our call yet. students reached out to us saying they were not giving a warning ahead of time... and were not told about refunds for their classes. we will continue to keep working on this story... and bring you the latest as we learn more. the iconic "welcome to nevada" signs along the highway are being replaced... and you have a chance to snag one of them. the nevada department of transportation will raffle off the old signs. there are 13 of them with the miner. for the past 25 years -- the signs have welcomed visitors throughout the silver state...

live from las vegas. you're watching fox5 news at six. with emmy award winner john huck. and weather 24/7 with chief meteoroligist ted pretty. this is fox5 news at 6 o'clock. local las vegas. longtime e-s-p-n anchor john saunders has passed away. the family says he wasn't feeling well physically the past few days... and was unresponsive early this morning. saunders was a fixture on e-s-p-n for nearly 30 years. he hosted studio and play-by-play

for college football... basketball... and the n-h-l. the cause of death has not been released yet. saunders was 61 years old. he leaves behind a wife and two daughters. in nevada... this is the first time in sixteen years you can bet on the summer games in rio... but it appears that many are not interested. the "nevada gaming control board" legalized olympic betting last year... but local sports books say they've only seen a few big bets on basketball and soccer. some say it may be because the american athletes are too good... to make money betting on them. the games run through august 21-st. in reno... t-s-a confiscates a 3-d printed gun loaded with five bullets. officials say it was a replica and could not fire. the plastic handgun was found in a carry- on luggage last week. it was one of 68 weapons found nationwide that week. the t-s-a says they offered the passenger carrying the gun the option to check in his weapon... but he chose to

was not arrested or cited for brining it into the airport. the person's flight also continued to its destination. thousands of firefighters continue to battle wildfires in southern california. one of them is threatening thousands of homes tonight. the fire has burned nearly 8- thousand acres east of los angeles. so far -- crews say it's 46-percent contained... but it still remains a threat to 53-hundred homes in the area. crews say the hot temperatures and strong winds are making it difficult. "it is a wind-driven fire - the fuel component that we have is very...what we call flashy. and by flashy, means that it is prone to ignition very, very quickly." and farther north -- the 20-day old wildfire burning near big sur has grown to more than a hundred square miles. thousands of firefighters are still on scene. it's now 50- percent contained. a number of evacuations have been lifted in that area. and here's a look at california's "soberanes fire" seen from space.
