two pedestrians died overnight in two seperate crashes. the most recent happened just after five this morning. it involved a driver who left the scene... only to return an hour later. a police report shows 36-year-old victor rivera- gonzalez was driving his truck east on sahara near burnham when a 50-year-old man was trying to cross. it's not clear whether or not the man was in a

the front right of the truck hit the man and he died at the scene. police say rivera-gonzalez kept going... and then returned to the scene an hour later. "we took him around back, conducted field sobriety tests which he passed mpreliminary breath test no indication of alcohol his statement was that he was scared and he left and came back and turned himself in." sergeant strader says bottom line though... someone died and the driver left the scene. they did arrest leaving the scene of an accident involving death. a 60-year-old henderson man was also hit and killed overnight on boulder highway. metro police responded to this scene near nellis just after 11 last night. the 53-year-old driver told police he was headed north on boulder highway with a green light, when he hit a man who was in the crosswalk... going against a don't walk pedestrian signal. the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. three men are now charged with a grisly arson and murder. police say last november the

several people inside an east las vegas home and then set it on fire. fox5's eric hilt talked with people who live in that neighborhood today -- what did they tell you about the arrests? they told me they are relieved -- because since that fire back in november, they haven't felt safe in their own homes. "it's, it's great. it's amazing. and i'm so glad, i really am. relief in this east las vegas neighborhood -- now that police say three people connected to two gruesome murders are now behind bars. "i'm totally relieved knowing that those bad people are put away and i hope they stay there" on tuesday, malik watson was arrested and charged with 13 different crimes including murder, attempted murder, arson and kidnapping. darrin wilder and hakim blanche- jones have also been arrested...and are facing the same list of charges. they're accused of tying several people up inside an east las vegas home, and then setting it on fire. "in the months since, the house has been torn down, all

concrete foundation, but neighbors say even though the house is gone, the memories of what happened here will stay with them forever" "when i look out the window i always feel like im going to see the house on fire again, its something that stays with you" on november 16 of last year this house near lamb and charleston went up in flames... outside the burned out home, first responders found two women with severe burns and a man with stab wounds and tied up with zip inside, 45-year-old mario jiminez was found dead. three months later his 27-year- old daughter angelica would die from her burns. "to know what those people went through and them being tortured, its horrible, it shouldn't happen to anybody" that horrible incident has kept neighbors on edge for months... but now these arrests are bringing some comfort. "do you feel safer now? i do...i feel a lot better" we reached out to the district

three suspects -- they said they aren't releasing those reports. metro told us they're not releasing the mug shots for the suspects either. in the newsroom, eric hilt, fox5 local las vegas. we will continue to dig into this case and try to find out more about these suspects and how they are connected to the victims. an ordeal many feet above the ground sent a tree trimmer to the hospital-- but he is ok. the trimmer was clippng fronds off of a on washington and rancho this morning... when he became stuck... buried in up to a thousand pounds of dried fronds. las vegas firefighters responded to free the man... and were able to bring him down with the help of workers from another trimming company that was working nearby. one of the workers said he will never forget the look on the man's face. firefighters say the situation he was in could have been worse. deputy chief eddie vigil: "we're talking a lot of weight..in this gentlemans case somewhere between 500-1000 pounds of frond

situation you can move those yourself..you're essentially trapped" the fire chief says the department sees at least 12 tree rescues each year...many of them involve landscapers for hire. a large dishwasher in a strip casino caught fire. clark county fire officials tell fox5 it happened at about 10 p.m. wednesday in a kitchen at the aria hotel. they say the fire activated a sprinkler system and was put out before crews got there. the fire didn't damage the building itself. officials say one person suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital. governor brian sandoval is coming out against a background check initiative - that's being supported by gun control advocates on the ballot this november. an aide to the republican governor says sandoval is concerned the measure would unnecessarily restrict the rights of law- abiding nevadans. the governor also thinks "question one" won't actually keep guns out of the hands of criminals. the stance is drawing praise from the n-r-a and criticism from gun-control supporters. checks" accuses sandoval of siding with the gun lobby against what the group calls a common-sense measure to save lives. democratic senate hopeful-- catherine cortez masto says she doesn't support the states education savings account program. cortez-mastro says she's afraid it will take away money from public schools. the nevada legislature voted last year to authorize the program that would allow parents to tap public education funds for private school tuition. opponents say it's unconstitutional. the program is on court challenges. the nevada supreme court is reviewing the case. clark county school district staff members are saying the haven't received raises in years. they took to the streets to voice their frustrations. bus drivers... kitchen and office staff... school police and teacher aides all joined in the protests. together-- they represent more than eleven thousand workers. some are saying they haven't seen a raise in over eight years. along with the money problems-- they also say they feel un-

"we are standing in need of raises, we want back pay. we haven't had retroactive, we have steps increases. we have not seen any of that since 2008. we've been working without contracts. we have a union that's not supportive." the school district released a statement saying they understand the concerns of the staff and plan to a have a meeting to discuss the matter. the push continues - to bring the oakland raiders to las vegas. but nevada north - are being asked to help as well. . the reno gazette-journal reports that raiders executives met with legislators on wednesday to explain their proposal... which calls for 750- million in public funding. lawmakers would have to approve any plan to raise hotel room taxes to finance the venue. critics say stadium backers at the las vegas sands casino company and "majestic realty" are asking too much of the public.

underway - after a florida woman was killed in a police simulation this week. the exercise involved guns that were supposed to be loaded with blanks.... now - as reid binion reports - authorities are trying to learn how live ammunition made its way into the gun that fired the fatal shots. accused of excessive use of force at a previous department where he worked. now to maryland where a powerful explosion shook houses a mile away. within minutes, a huge section of the building collapsed and flames shot into the sky. the intense fire is to blame for the deaths of at least two people.... and the injuries of dozens more. people were trapped inside the four story apartment building.... one couple had to climb out a window on the third floor and drop their five month old baby down to people below.
