let's get you up to date with the latest local headlines. a 37-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car. metro police say the woman was in the crosswalk on eastern near st. louis, but witnesses say the signals for the crosswalk were not activated. this happened at about nine last night. the driver claimed not to have seen her. that driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. neither speed nor impairment were suspected causes. early yesterday morning... a 50 year pedestrian was killed in the same and eastern. and just hours earlier - a 60 year old woman was hit and killed - while crossing boulder highway. boulder highway is considered one of the most dangerous roads in southern nevada for pedestrians. fox five's cyndi lundeberg takes a closer look - at a high-risk stretch of road. its the deadliest stretch of roadway in the valley... nats last year on boulder highway... 12 pedestrians... 2 bicylists and 4 people in cars died. wednesday night... a similiar story.

just after 11... was hit and killed. ... i spoke to the nevada highway patrol in december about these problems. weve had boulder hwy on our sights for a number of years that's tony illia with n-dot .. and he went on to tell me n-dot wwould be making changes... including .. installing lights to crosswalks so drivers know where people are at night. n-dot said the project would take six to eight months to complete ... and eight months later it's not completed. nats metro police say the man killed wednesday was walking in a crosswalk .. but against a don't walk sign. erin breen is the director of the vulnerable road users project at unlv... and thinks the 60 year old might of ran out of time getting across. so we wanted to try it... its funny because we are so used to cars doing that we finished the walk... with no time to spare. so here we are in our 30 seconds boom right to the other side could we have walked faster yes but we are very able bodied pedestrians here get 30 seconds to

drunk driving and how to properly wear your seatbelt. "kids are maybe wearing their seat belt but their putting it under their arm, behind their back. they can still be ejected by not wearing their seat belt correctly so we have the problem of them not wearing their seat belt at all, wearing it incorrectly and being distracted when they drive." another lesson the kids learned was to be aware of other drivers on the road who they think may have been drinking. a compromise could be on the way - that would allow a popular off-highway race from las vegas to reno to run next week - through a new national monument. the bureau of land management is still considering whether to give final approval to the 640-mile, two- day race that would pass though the basin and range national monument - that president obama designated last summer. conservation groups have objected to plans for the race scheduled to begin next friday. but a member of a blm advisory panel who represents environmental organizations told the reno-

the search continues for bodies buried beneth debris...after a deadly explosion at a maryland apartment complex. police say two people are dead and seven are still missing. the explosion happened late wednesday night and police say it could have been caused by natural gas. more than 30 people were injured...and at least 90 people are without a home. "what i saw was a lot of buildings on fire. i got so scared there were people jumping out of the window screaming for help and kids screaming because there was a lot of kids scared." people who lived in the apartments are left wondering if the explosion could have been prevented. firefighters were called to the complex to investigate the smell of gas....two and a half weeks ago.

faro cargo ship may soon be revealed. the vessel's data recorder is now in the hands of federal investigators ten months after it went down... killing everyone on board. bryan llenas has more. family members of those who died on board the el faro cargo ship may soon know more about their loved ones' final moments. the ship's voyage data recorder now back on land after it was recovered some 15-thousand feet below the surface of the atlantic ocean. curtis says: "..we've never ne before - acquired a vdr at depths like that or even i don't believe we've recovered one, that i recall, underwater." the v-d-r stores navigational data and crew member communications on the bridge. el faro's device was first discovered back in april... and analysts at the n-t-s-b headquarters in washington d-c will be processing the data. there's currently no timeframe for the examination. curtis says: "..there are several variables that we'll have to look into

and the bodys were found hours later. tim wood / lives in batavia getting struck by lightning is like one in a million and then it happened to two people on the same day in a cemetery. the medical examiner says markings on the bodies are consistent with being struck. it could take several weeks before autopsy results come back. a pedestrian bridge in missouri gave way - just as an ambulance crossed over it. here you see the ambulance stuck on the bridge. crews were trying to help a become overheated on a popular hiking trail - when the bridge began to collapse. the ambulance only fell about eight inches or so -- but it had to be towed away. authorities said they've used the pedestrian bridge many times in the past without incident. "sometimes we have to make difficult decisions with access to patients. these particular bridges weren't particularly designed for vehicle use but in an emergency situation we take the ambulance as far as
