my phone, my dog, my wife, then out the door, nothing else i could do, it was moving that fast." randall pochmara and his wife woke up this morning to smoke and yelling. "somebody yelled something, my wife went out the door and they said fire." four units at the shadow woods condominiums are being called a total loss. fire crews say the cause is still under investigation. but the fire started in the apartment on the top floor next to randalls. "my mom noticed smoke and could smell it, came outside and saw smoke up from the roof, her and the family says they got out, but randalls wife, who has cancer, was sent to the hospital for smoke inhilation. "she's having chest pains and everything else, they took her to make sure because she just got done with a round of radiation, so they want to make sure nothing else is going wrong." one firefighter was also sent to the hospital after a roof tile fell on his head. "he's doing good, the tile came off, he was doing some work, caught him in the head, minor, small laceration, seems to be doing pretty good."

"high" level strucutre fire. and took nearly five hours to knock down. over a dozen engines responded with over 60 firefighters. "fires can move so quick in these apartment complexes, we want to get ahead of it, we frontload our calls and personel to make sure we're ready to go." crews say the damage incurred on the top floors is just fire. while the two bottom units have smoke and water damage. "just life i guess, it could have been worse, if we were in asleep, we would have never, it would have engulfed us before we got up." "now it's start over again, what can i do, i got her, i got my dog, got my kids, what else could i need." now according to randall... the arson investigator said the cause may have come from between the walls....but again... clark county fire department have not given a reason and say it is still under

the red cross has stepped in to help those without a place to live - after the fire. you can make a donation online. look in our links page - at fox five vegas dot com. in another fire... crews found a person dead inside a vacant home. neighbors tell fox five it was likely a squatter. fox5's eric hilt is live in that neighborhood - near sahara and lamb - with the latest. some neighbors told me they weren't surprised by this fire been struggling to get squatters out of this home for years... they say the house has been vacant for about three years now -- but squatters moved in shortly after the homeowners moved out. neighbors say they have filed code complaints and called metro police several times, but nothing ever seemed to get done. they say it was very frustrating because they knew that something bad like this fire could happen. "a lot of people are expecting the police department to do something, becuase i

any more homes go up in flames, bad enough we had this one here so close!" metro told me a vacant house is still somebody's property... and it's very hard to deal with squatters if they can't track down that homeowner. without the homeowner to let them in, they're powerless without a warrant. neighbors told me that this wasn't the only house squatters have moved into in this neighborhood, and they're concerned that this could happen again. re eric hilt fox5 news local las vegas. no one was reported hurt - after a fire at the rumor hotel. that's right across the street from the hard rock - hear harmon and paradise. four engines raced to the property just before two this afternoon - to find smoke coming from the two- story building.

hotel guests evacuated safety. the cause of the fire is under investigation. two men shot and killed outside of a north las vegas casino - were part of a large group of people who gathered there early sunday morning. north las vegas police responded to reports of gunfire - just after 4 a-m in the parking lot of the silver nugget casino. that's near las vegas boulevard and lake mead. officers arrived to find tow two men shot in the parking lot. they were declared dead at the scene. no suspects have been identified. police are still searching for a gunman - after a woman was found dead friday. police have identified jaime santana - as a suspect - after the body of cinthia wendy perez- rodriguez was discovered at a home near rancho and bonanza. her friends knew the victim as "wendy". over the weekend - they held a car wash - to raise money to help the family cover funeral expenses. about 30 people gathered to help out. "you feel like you're alone. you feel like nobody has gone through what you're going through, but that's

some of the worst flooding since hurricane katrina has forced tens of thousands of homes in southern louisiana. will carr is in baton rouge with the latest on severe weather... that has already left at least six people dead. southern louisiana remains in a state of emergency tonight as crews continue to rescue stranded residents .. (raw- by helicopter .. military vehicles large enough to drive through swamped neighborhoods.. and by boat. this man jumping in to save a woman and her dog as their car was swept away. crews have rescued tens of thousands
