amy nauenburg is on the phone with us now she was at centennial hills hospital-- which was on lockdown for a time. amy take us about the trash left... days after the 10th annual bullhead city river regatta.... and if they have their way.....the worlds largest river tube float may be over...not only for this year..but for good........ fox5's vince sapienza is in laughlin with reaction from locals.. and has more on what city officials are saying... that's right john,
4:03 pm
spoke with a man whose job was to dive the bottom of the river and clean up the trash, after the event, he told me it was the worst he's ever seen, and when he surfaced with five bags of trash, he was told it wasn't enough. clean and quiet... a very different picture out here on the colorado river than the one that was painted by locals last weekend. "just treated just like i don't know an out house on they dumped everything it was their amounts of cash as high as you could see it to my waist and just everywhere everything they could throw away i just threw the beaches here." these are the pictures taken by participants of the bullhead city river regatta immediately after the event. "it was discussing most of environmental impact on the colorado this is our river and the only one we're going to get we need to take care of it no one else is going to." locals were so upset that a petition has been

the event next year. with over 3100 signatures already. "a lot of a lot of it is the trash and i said i work in the casinos cross the river so we get a lot of the fights afterwards when everyone is drunk we get a lot of that stuff and then that doesn't include the stuff that sinking to the bottom that nobody can pick up so then we have the fish and everything else that goes through here that's being harm because that stuff." but this what it looks like on tuesday. city staff say the mess was cleaned in a matter of hours. and that the event is too valuable to lose, drawing a total economic impact between laughlin and bullhead city at around $20 million dollars. "right now on social media and it's absolutely justified in what he wants to see a parker river looking like that of the trash for an event like this is significant, you know at this time of year real hot in bullhead city and then sometimes people like to just stay indoors and not do much and when people stay indoors not doing much it doesn't generate a lot of economic impact we have this event at this time of year so we can generate some awesome business for our community and i think it does just that." the city says they brought in 20 additional dumpsters, 150 additional trash and and more than 120 people working on trash alone. but for some locals i spoke with it still isn't enough, saying the ripple effects afterward are not worth it. "basically just the chaos like i've seen many fights i've just i've seen the aftermath of it and it's not fun i work the night shift at the casinos were everybody's hot in

sick." 30-thousand floated down the colorado this past weekend, the most in its ten year history. and some residents would like to see it again, just done differently. "we need to hear from the city with their plans are for next year because honestly last year's we got it and it wasn't is well organized and get a much better job this year so what we like to here's what the city plans to do to improve again." now the city tells me the biggest difference this year is people took full advantage of the pa f south end for landing... and they plan to be better prepared for next year by doubling everything next year.. from dumpsters to trash cans to people working. from bullhead city, i'm vince sapienza fox5 local las vegas. city council will review and hear locals opinions on next years event.. and will make a

"last year the rescues pulled more than 2500 animals out of the animal foundation,

university students are trying to turn one of america's classic "muscle cars" - the camaro -- into an eco- friendly hybrid. fox's courtney griffin tells us why. asu's polytechnic campus is one of 16 universities competing in a intense 4 year competition. they're taking this camaro and making it into a high- performance hybrid. mos says: "you see the engine out of the 2015 equinox and then you see a converter over from rhinehart here in the back and then you see the electric motor that's hidden underneath the car." roughly 45 students are working on it.

year 3 -- and this year the goal is to make the car turn on and eventually be good enough to run at a high- performance level. mos says: "the main purpose here is to increase the performance of the car while saving the environment." along with horsepower - students want to give the car more brain power - using smart technology - to alert the driver of hazards in the road. mos says: "to basically try to analyze the environment around the vehicle and have the vehicle understand what's happening so if it sees a pedestrian or a car in front of it or a a traffic sign or a stop sign this is mainly for assisting the drive to make the driving conditions more comfortable and make the experiences more safe." the students say by next year - this camaro should be aware of it's environment and also a full- functioning high- performance hybrid. courtney griffin fox 10 news a cuban biker is setting a world record... motorcycle rider aliet perez is king of the road--after breaking a guinness world record for
