$2.99 for a limited time. value, done my way. this is fox5 news at 6. local. las vegas thousands of firefighters continue to battle a massive fire in the cajon pass... that's forced more than 82- thousand people from their homes. here's a look at the flames up close last night. it's burned more than 30-thousand acres. california governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency in the san bernardino county. the fire has shut down major transportation routes... including the i-15 from las vegas to los angeles. the fire started tuesday morning. fire crews say it's growing at a rapid pace. here's a look at the timelapse video showing just how fast it's spread last night. the fire has destroyed nearly 35-thousand homes.

how close the flames are to the roads... as firefighters continue to battle it. officials say crews are working in difficult weather conditions.... and drought-stricken terrain. they say it's moving with an intensity they're never seen before. so far -- officials say the fire is zero percent contained. we have team coverage. fox five's eric hilt spoke to evacuees looking for shelter. chief meteorlogist ted pretty will show us how much smoke we'll see in our area... but first -- we start with fox five's abby theodros near hesperia with more on what fire crews are dealing with. this fire has been tearing through the area the last day and a half. i want to step out of the way here so you can see what fire crews are dealing with. thick heavy smoke and wild growth. we're told strong winds, dry brush and hot temperatures are

san bernardino county's second brush fire this month called for hundreds of fire crews and shut down a major interstate. debbie chapman, cal fire: the fire started yesterday afternoon and it is burned 30 thousand acres so far. the brush erupted tuesday-in the cajone pass. an area familiar with fires but captain debbie chapman with cal fire says this pace is unparalleled. dc: you can see behind us it's moving w the wind. increase in speed its up to anywhere from 15 to 25 mile per hour gusts. and it's moving towards the wrightwood community fox 5 spent the day near one of the hardest hit parts-

there are only a couple dozen people at this shelter right now, but workers say that was not the case last night when more than 200 people came by... the red cross says about 150 of those people stayed the night here... directors say they expected even more people to show up because of the size of this fire... so far more than 80 thousand people have been evacuated because of the blue cut fire... and workers and people looking for shelter both say this fire is like nothing they've seen before. i spoke to some people here who wanted to evacuate just to get away from the smoke - as you can imagine there is a lot of smoke in this area and some of that is making its way into las vegas... i'll send it back to chief meteorologist ted pretty with more on the air quality in the valley more heat for us on thursday with a high of 104 and afternoon gusts to 25 mph from the southwest. there's a good chance more wildfire smoke will move into the las vegas area over the next few days. we'll have 103 on friday with 102 expected both saturday and sunday. slight chances of showers and thunderstorms will be with us on monday through wednesday of next

many travelers have had to find alternate routes to get around the fire.

morning in the hesperia area. we spoke to some evacuees who spent the night in their car in the wal-mart parking lot... because they're having trouble finding places to stay. "we slept in walmart by time i got dogs and cat at animal control it was 1 we slept at walmart all hotels are booked." many evacuees are still waiting for word on when they can go back to their homes. since i-15 is closed in the cajon pass... more than 100- thousand cars stretch per day... are having to find a different route. nearly half of that traffic is from those heading into nevada. so here's a look at the detour. if you have to head that way you will find the closure at main street in hesperia. to get to the east side of the l-a area... you'll want to take i-15 to highway 247 in barstow, then south to yucca valley. from there you'll connect with highway 62 west into the palm
