fox5 news at 10 starts now a man is dead after being stabbed on the east side of the valley. and the suspect is still on the loose. a minivan plows into the side of a home...right into a family's living room. the damage it caused and why police say the driver might have crashed. 20-16 is nearly record setting for pedestrian fatalities so far. and the new season is only expected to be more deadly. this is fox5 news at 10. local. las vegas. the victim in an afternoon stabbing died at university medical center this evening... i'm vince sapienza. thank you for joining us. fox5's eric hilt is live at the hospital with details on the investigation -- eric. vince metro tell us that the victim died here at university medical center about 3 hours after the stabbing... police say the stabbing happened

of charleston and nellis. metro has not made any arrests and say the suspect may have gotten away on a bicycle... the victim was driven here to u- m-c with life- threatening injuries and then around 8:00, the victim died. we're still working to learn more about this victim and this deadly stabbing. metro says this is their 111th homicide of this year. we'll continue to follow this stabbing, and bring you any updates to the story. a man is dead after an a-t-v crash in the desert this morning. it happened at a dry lake bead near jean. police say the 39- year-old rider was thrown off the vehicle when it became airborne. he was pronounced dead at the scene. police say it's the second four- wheeler a-t-v

a minivan slams into the side of a home leaving a gaping hole right into a family's living room. it happened on marion drive hear steward avenue around 2-40 this afternoon. metro police say the driver might have had a medical episode. they say the driver doesn't appear to be impaired. no one was home at the time of the crash and police say no one was hurt. a motorcyclist is hit by a passing car and is fighting for their life. you're looking at a photo sent in from viewer michelle. it happened just after 1 this at the intersection of siverado ranch and gilespie. police say the motorcyclist sped through a red light.. t-boning a sedan. police are still looking into exactly what happened. we saw some clouds earlier in the day and some sprinkles might be heading our way. nate is here with his first look at the weather to tell us more. it appears the rain that we've been talking about is on

it's certainly been hitting parts of the viewing area starting this afternoon and running through the evening up in lincoln county. more than an inch of rain fell in the panaca area, prompting a flood advisory from the national weather service. it expired at 9:15pm. the storm cells moved south from there into northeast clark county, including the mesquite area. they're now moving southwest toward las vegas with scattered showers apex area then on to the las vegas motor speedway and nellis air force base. these are the hit & miss "pop-up" storms that we've been talking about. they may hold together or they may fall apart. in any case, an area of low pressure moving inland across southern california will increase our chances of rain throughout the day monday and likely lingering into tuesday befoire moving on. daytime highs may not make iut out of the 90s monday and tuesday with a rebound to triple it's been a deadly year for pedestrians in

head back to school, the number of pedestrian deaths is expected to rise. fox five's eric hilt has more. as students get ready to head back to school... local groups are getting ready for the most dangerous time season for pedestrians...in what's already been a very deadly year for clark county. "the fall to the end of the year is the worst time for pedestrian safety, and today we've already killed 32 people in our community crossing the street" the 32 pedestrian fatalities are more than at this point last year -- and on deadly record. "we are 8 pedestrian fatalities ahead of last year in clark county, so we could be literally in record territory, well we are right now in record territory" so this week several local groups are teaming up, to teach students -- and parents -- how to get to school safely. "we've brought together lots and lots of partners, this is the third year that we've done this. metro, highway patrol, school district police, trauma

aid for aids nevada is celebrating their 30th annual black and white party. nearly four

to party it up with a-fan. wearing everything from ball gowns to balloons. some celebrity supporters included penn and teller...carrot top...and members of human nature. the organization raised more than 140 thousand dollars for people living with h-i-v or aids. for a lot of teachers... back to school means spending big bucks out of their own wallet on classroom supplies. the "sharing is caring" teacher consignment takes donated school supplies and sells them way cheaper than the retail price. today... first and second teachers could stop by the consignment for exclusive free items to supply their classrooms with. "it's stressful for teachers if they go to a school that isn't supplied." "local teachers, private school teachers, home school parents or just parents to have an opportunity to come buy teacher materials and supplies at a fraction of the retail price." they've saved teachers nearly 15 thousand dollars over the six years they've been in business.

flooding in louisiana... hundreds of people across the state are stepping up to donate... volunteer and help out families in need. in baton rouge...hundreds of volunteers spent the weekend helping families empty their homes before mold and mildew set in. young and old shoveling, carrying, sorting and picking up damaged clothing, shoes and other goods. many working together to help elderly couples who can't lift wet furniture and pull out wet carpets. volunteer - kate richardson - grew up in houston and is happy to help. her family suffered through was a child... she knows what it's like to lose everything. "mos says; "it's been a difficult, we've had a lot of problems in baton rouge, and now we're all coming together as one -- when a storm come, calmness come ... the wind blows, and then the sunshine again -- " the storm system in louisiana dumped more than 20 inches of rain over just two days, leaving rivers and creeks severely bloated. officials say about 4-thousand

for his made-up story about getting robbed at a gas station in rio de janeiro. the fall-out over the fabricated event cast a shadow over the final week of the olympic games. lochte originally said he and three of his teammates had been held up by an armed robber. then the truth came to light. police said lochte and his friends - all four gold medal winners - had vandalized a bathroom after a night of drunken partying. armed guards confronted them and asked them to pay for the damage. over the weekend...lochte said he had, quote, "over exaggerated" his original story. "lochte says: "i take full responsibility and i just want the people of brazil to know how truly sorry i am, because i'm embarrassed... i'm embarrassed for myself, for my family and for my country. i was highly intoxicated and it was... i'm human and i made a mistake." today... u-s olympic committee c-e-o scott blackmun announced more action will be taken over the incident.

louisville, kentucky sees a lot of interesting training regimens. but nothing like the one you're about to see for an athlete getting ready for a 5-k race. john boel reports. massachusetts... a gang investigation led to the arrest of a fugitive on cape cod. shaun miller is 31 years old. he was disguised as an elderly man when federal and local authorities surrounded him inside a yarmouth home. when miller walked outside, officers removed his disguise and arrested him. authorities found 30-thousand dollars inside the home, and two loaded weapons.
