orders have been lifted. they affected more than 80- thousand people at one point. some roads - including parts of highway 138 have limited access. more than 100 homes and 200 outbuildings - such as sheds or barns - have been destroyed by the flames. but no one was killed. the inferno began in the cajon pass area and scorched about 57 square miles. one of the buildings destoryed was a historic restaurant called the "summit inn". it was a familiar sight to drivers on the i-15... but now - has been reduced to rubble. last week - fox five spoke to the current owner - who bought the diner just weeks ago. paul vercammen caught up with the former owners - who are sad to see history - go up in flames. natsot: "the wine rack, a lot of other stuff, the gumboil machine over there." cecil stephens, longtime owner of the summit inn before he sold it a month ago can't believe the bluecut fire torched his life's work. (cecil stephens, former owner, summit inn): "it makes me sick in my stomach, it's awful 'cause i know every button in that restaurant that was there. every

you've had to repair half of that stuff." that's right, a half-century of owning a favorite hangout on route 66 stephens bought the summit inn and restaurant on friday the 13 in 1966, shut down the motel and focused on food and the history of the fabled route from chicago to the pacific ocean. cecil and his wife of 41 years debbie became the mom and pop of a nostalgia stop for classic car crazed patrons, route 66 worshippers, even locals obsessed with both. (mos/summit inn been many a times when i would sit at the bar right there and have coffee when it was snowing and say i'm not going to work." smoldering tales in these ashes have it that celebrities rolled in too, including elvis presley the king reportedly saw cecil's jukebox didn't offer a single one of his records. (cecil stephens, former owner, summit inn): "so kind stood back and kicked the jukebox lightly said 'maybe next time i come in here you will have one of my records on (laugh).' if you can believe, when i came back i went out and got a

it was in the jukebox." music serenaded generations of people who pulled off the road to eat everything from ostrich burgers, to banana splits, to the popular hillbilly burger.. (reporter/question) : "what's a hillbilly burger? victim got into a fight with another man... at a home on sir phillip street - near charleston and nellis on sunday. the victim was stabbed - and then driven to the hospital by a friend who was also there at the time. if you have any information - call police or crimestoppers at 702-385-55-55. the availability of execution drugs - has become an issue in many death penalty states - including nevada. one of two drugs that make up the lethal injection formula has expired. the pharmaceutical company that produces it refuses on principle to give the state any more. nevada hasn't seen an execution since 2006 - or had a working execution chamber since 2011. a new chamber is under construction in ely - and should be ready in november. there are 80 people on the state's death row, but none have exhausted their appeals. the nevada department of corrections is currently looking or companies willing to supply lethal injection drugs. a man has died after his atv crashed in the las vegas desert -

death in a month. metro police say the accident happened shortly before 7-30 sunday morning - in a dry lake bed near jean. according to evidence and witness statements... the 39-year-old man identifed by the coroner as william couch was traveling on a yamaha banshee atv by himself when his vehicle became airborne. he was thrown upon landing - and later pronoucned dead at the scene. a 30-year-old man was killed in july - while riding a four-wheeler atv across the lake bed. mounds - causing him to be ejected. kingman police will pay their final respects to a k-9 partner this week. "amigo" died saturday morning.. after suffering from heat exhaustion. the k-9 was helping officers rescue 2 injured hikers in triple- digit heat when he got sick on wednesday.. he had been on the police force for a year.. was just 3 and a half years old. "amigo" is credited with dozens of drug busts. a memorial service will be held later this week.
