live from las vegas fox5 news at 6 starts now. a construction worker killed in a scaffolding collapse. what the man's family says about his untimely death. a man attacked by hundreds of bees a few weeks ago has died... we'll hear from a local bee expert who tells us how to stay safe around them. after a motorcycle crash on the freeway. police are now asking witnesses who saw the crash to come forward. this is fox5 news at 6. local. las vegas crews were back to work today at tivoli village - after a scaffold collapsed yesterday afternoon -- killing one worker. i'm christine maddela. i'm john huck. that worker was 30 year old ricardo bautista. fox5's eric hilt talked with bautista's family members -- eric

ricardo's family members say this is a very difficult time for them. they did not want to go on camera today, but told me he was a a hardworking man who loved his family -- including his three sons -- more than anything else. he was working at this contruction zone yesterday when the scaffold he was working on collapsed. crews are back to work in this construction site at tivoli village a day after a deadly scaffold collapse... three workers were on the scaffold when it fell -- two to safety, but one person was killed. today the clark county coroner said the victim was 30-year-old ricardo bautista... family members told fox5 they're still trying to process what happened... they did not want to go on camera, but say they'll remember bautista as a great person, a hard worker and a loving father. signs around the construction zone say the building permit is to a company called levels cm...

contracter for other tivoli village projects. we looked that company up in osha's records -- and didn't find any previous violations. osha is investigating this deadly scaffold collapse. i reached out to level cm this afternoon... the first time i called, an employee told me they were not involved with this project, and then hung up. when i called back again a few hours later that same worker told me the company was not going to comment. reporting live, eric hilt fox5 news local las vegas. a rider is dead after a motorcycle crash on the freeway off-ramp. police say the motorcylist got off the 15 at d street right before being hit by a chevy suburban. it happened just before noon today. nevada highway patrol is asking witnesses to come forward as they try to find out exactly what went wrong. that intersection was blocked off during the investigation. traffic is back to normal at this hour. the worker who was attacked by a swarm of bees earlier this month died last

as 28-year old jose pacheco fox-5's vince sapienza spoke with local experts who say if pacheco had a little more bee education and taken the proper safety precautions.. he could still be with us today... that's right john..christine.... earlier today i spoke with a local bee keeper.. who says it takes just ten bee stings per pound for the body to begin having complications... meaning if a 180- pound man were to be stung 18- hundred times the body would start to shutdown.... now that seems like a lot..for one event.... but i'm told a couple thousnd bees is just ten-percent of an average africanized bee hive.... which is the type of bee hive pacheco was attempting to remove.... nearly 100 100- percentt of bees here in the valley are africanized...but only 25-percent are aggressive.... despite this most recent event...las vegas fire and rescue say the amount of calls they receive have gone down more and more over the

"people think oh, we'll just let them go, well you're really wishing death on your neighborhood because as soon as they take flight, the first thing that has musk perfume or different perfumes, loud noise, bees are going to attack it." experts say swarms happen every three to four weeks for africanized bees..and every time they swarm they split up.. multiply..... and spread... now if you think you have a bee loud noises around them or carry citrus drinks or fruits.... las vegas fire and rescue say.. do not call 9-1-1... call a local.. licensed bee keeper to remove them immediately.... l-v fire and rescue say they will only respond if someone is stung and dealing with life or death situations... l-v fire and rescue say they do offer a hotline where you can leave a two-minute recording....for any questions or

the 90s again on friday. a one million dollar donation is going to veterans village... giving them the ability to open up a second campus downtown. this means more veterans and their families will have a place to stay if hard times. the extra money came from n-fl player-- steven jackson. jackson was born and raised in las vegas. he played football for eldorado high school. he says says making the choice to give to veterans village was easy. "i'm the son of a marine that served during vietnam and i have grandfathers and uncles who have served." "i don't think any amount of money could actually measure up to what our veteran... the men and women, what they've done and the sacrifices they've made to for our country. so regardless of the

they only see the value of it when their child gets sick or ill. betsy/ well we encourage all parents to make an informed decision about what they're doing for their child's health her definition of "an informed decision" means -- just get the vaccines. yes, there are exceptions... but it's not easy to get out of. if you don't like shots, that's not good enough... and if you think they're unhealthy... that's not good enough either. in nevada -- you need a religious exemption, or a medical reason. i am encouraging the rest of parents that do not think it is wise for them to take the vaccine for them to do it. so depending on your child's age -- he or she might need different vaccines. especially if this is their first year at school in nevada. we'll have all that information for you on our website, fox5vegas.com john/ christine with school

week....officers are asking drivers to pay extra attention to kids on the road. metro was at c-h decker elementary school this morning - to discuss the "slow your roll" campaign. it's a reminder to drivers to modify their habits - and prepare for heavier volumes of traffic - and more kids crossing the streets. about 320- thousand kids will be heading back to school. metro says the penalties for breaking the law in school zones - just isn't worth it. storage unit... auctioned off for two hundred dollars. now she's asking for the winner of the auction to return those photos. fox5's peter dawson brings us that story. danica winberg had a heart stopping moment when she took her mother to her public storage unit on decatur near sahara. danica winberg "something went wrong...went to auction." -butt to- "voice in my head...pass along to my kids." it took less than two months from the failed auto- payment to the unit being auctioned off for about two- hundred dollars. danica understands some of the jewelry might have already been resold but she wants the family photo albums back. danica winberg "so well organized ... documented." 14 photos albums

a little girl opened up her lemonade stand again today... this time to help metro k-9 officers get protective vests. "we wanted to do it for a vest because we didn't want to lose another k9 like nicky. this way we can help them out and they can get vests. " "theresa ann babcock" offered lemonade to people visiting "kangamoo play". her father says she raised nearly seven hundred and fifty dollars today! her previous stand raised more than 13 hundred dollars for family members of fallen officers. it's theresa's fourth birthday today, and her family says she wanted to spend it helping others. a milestone for the world wide web. the internet is celebrating a birthday... we'll take a look at some of the changes from the very first web

unemployment rates are down in the silver state. they're falling month to month on an annual basis. unemployement here in the las ga dropped to six point seven percent... compared to the reno area standing at five and a half percent. carson city's unemployment rate is at six and a half percent. the department of unemployement says rates fell in every county except esmeralda near the california boarder. the department's chief ecominist says the state grew about two and a half...which comes out to nearly 32 thousand added jobs. the world wide web is celebrating
