- after a strong month on the strip. the state gaming control board said nevada's casinos won just over one billion in july. revenue on the las vegas strip rose nearly 17 percent year- over-year... to 613-million. downtown las vegas winnings notched up about 3 percent to 42- million. reno casino revenue surged 11 percent to 56- million. south lake tahoe revenue rose 20 percent to 28- million the state collected 68- million in tax overall july winnings today unlv found out it is no longer in the running for membership in the big 12 conference. the big twelve narrowed the list of universities under consideration, and the current mountain west member is no longer on that list. in a statement, unlv's president and athletic director wrote athletically the big 12 underscored the importance of investment in infrastructure and facilities- especially for football. that's hinting at the need for the

something the university has been openly supporting. the nevada highway patrol released the name of a trooper who shot and killed an armed man last friday. n-h-p says the two exchanged gunfire - after the man - who was a passenger - ran from a car pulled over for a traffic stop. trooper shawn peckham pulled over the white cadillac sedan for improper license plate display near the 95 and boulder highway. the man got out and ran - as the trooper was back in his car - running on the sedan. investigators say the man turned around and fired at trooper peckham - who took position behind his car. he returned fire - killing the suspect - identified later as matthew gibbon. the trooper is a three-year veteran of the highway patrol. he is on routine administrative leave - pending the investigation. we now know that two people were killed.... when a small plane crashed into an r-v park in sparks. it happened tuesday night -

a search is underway in western alaska... after two small commercial airplanes collided in mid-air. they were carrying a total of five people. the alaska national guard says the collision occurred 60 miles north of bethel just before 11 a.m. this morning. a guard helicopter with medics on board left bethel around noon to site. all five people have been confirmed dead. alaska state troopers also are involved in the response. an investigation is underway in new york - after six balconies come crashing down off the side of an apartment building. "i heard a huge rumble and everything crashed." it happened tuesday in the long beach area of long island. no one was hurt - but now people who live in the building and investigators are trying to figure out if the collapse could have been

complaining about the conditions for months. " my friend came by. we were having coffee. i said let's go outside because it's cool and nice. she said no. right after that it came crashing down." the landlord recently hired a contractor to make repairs.... but tennants say it wasn't soon enough. crews are back at work... to fix the water crisis in flint, michigan. today - construction teams broke ground on the second phase... of an initiative aimed at replacing lead tainted pipes the city. about 250 homes are expected to have their pipes replaced during this period. meanwhile - flint officials are planning the third phase of the program - that will take on replacing infrastructure at five-thousand homes. a seven month old german shepherd in idaho is being called a "miracle". the dog suffers from a condition that doesn't allow food to travel from his throat to his stomach. but thanks to several extensive surgeries - and some new

are looking up. kelsey mcfarland reports from boise. nats sit down, good boy dubbed with his name-- and cushioned with style... elijah-- a 7 month old german shepherd... eats his food in this specially crafted chair five times a day. but he doesn't do it to be cute. he has to sit in this chair to survive. he came to dr. baxter and the staff at ada animal hospital malnourished and half the size of the other puie litter. (dr. zoe baxter, ada animal hospital veterinarian) "a ring was growing over the esophagus from the heart that normally should have broken down during development and it didn't. it allowed milk to pass through but not solid food." the original owners couldn't take care of him. which is where savannah amerson-- a vet tech at the hospital-- stepped in to adopt him. (savannah amberson, elijah's owner) "he had to be syringe fed in a full liquid diet every two hours and that was for the first three months of his life." not only was elijah

(dr. zoe baxter, ada animal hospital veterinarian) "he didn't have a lot of calcium and protein and some of the nutrition so he actually jumped out of one our technicians arms and broke his leg." elijah had three surgeries and many procedures in between.. but not much was working. (savannah amberson, elijah's owner) "the doctors sat me down and had the conversation with me you know you're going to have to make a hard choice, how much farther you want to put him through, there's really not much else we can do at this point." which led them to come up with option d. essentially a high chair for dogs. (savannah am elijah's owner) "it's supposed to make it so that gravity pulls the food through his esophagus rather than the muscles pushing it through his stomach." and with three and a half weeks of doing so-- it's been nothing but success. (savannah amberson, elijah's owner) "for once in his life he's getting a full stomach." now-- he frolics around the dog park just like any other puppy. something savannah credits to friends and the vets who cared for elijah when they didn't have to. (savannah amberson, elijah's owner) "he's only a dog, he doesn't know and he needs somebody in
