fox5 news at 10 starts now armed, dangerous... and on the run. tonight north las vegas police are looking for a suspected killer. officers already caught him once... but he escaped. we'll tell you how. this is fox5 news at 10. local. las vegas. a suspected killer is on the loose... hours after police arrested him. i'm christine maddela. i'm john huck. police are looking for 25- year old alonso perez... who escaped custody and then stole a pickup truck.... perez the man suspected of killing 31-year old mohammad

weekend. fox5's vince sapienza tracked down the manager of the company who saw the stolen truck take off from his parking lot. he's live in the newsroom. john.. christine.... at this time police are still scarambling to find alonso perez... a man police are describing as armed and dangerous.. due to his history of violence.... the manager i spoke with said he was shocked to hear..not only someone escape police custody... but the fact that dangerous criminals are routinely brought near his workplace... "we just had a truck jacked, and they said oh well we just lost a suspect, and we said you lost a suspect." the answer to that is yes. and that suspect is 25-year old alonso perez. a 6-3 200 pound hispanic man who was last seen wearing a #21 dallas cowboys jersey. he also has a three inch "air jordan" tatoo on his neck. the prime suspect in a homicide that resulted in the death of mohammad robinson last weekend in north

arrested perez at 10 a-m friday. only to have him break free at their detective bureau near the north las vegas airport. "when the detectives stepped out, alonso broke out of the handcuffs and then escaped out of the building." police say alonso fled west. where he stole a white 2016 ford f- 250 pickup truck.. just like this one. the truck belongs to sunbelt rentals... a business less than a 100 yards away. "i saw the truck take off out of our front lot and i knew it was stolen, because i he someone is stealing our truck." vincent linke... the branch manager... said one of his technicians was loading a running truck.. and it's there where perez found his opportunity. "the only communication between that gentleman and my technician, was he looked through the window and the guy gave a what you want some trouble." linke tells me all his vehicles are equipped with g- p-s tracking. so he went online to find his truck. "got up to 80 miles per hour before he hit craig road, went all the way

"and ditched our tracking device at the lowes shopping center." "this is not something that happens hardly ever, at least in the time that i have been here, i don't ever recall an incident like this." i asked police if security was an issue and if the handcuffs perez broke were faulty. i was told they will be looking into that.. but for now.. there focus is finding perez. "we have a dangerous suspect on the loose here in the valley and we urge the public if you do come in contact with him take a step back and call local law enforcement so that we can come out." police tell me there are multiple agencies working this case... and that they have a few locations and spots they belive he could be hiding...but would not tell fox-5.. as to not tip perez off... from the newsroom..i'm vince sapienza...fox-5 news..local.. las vegas... police tell fox-5 it's more likely that someone who is not a police

into perez.. before the authorities... so if you do see him.. do not confront him.. and call the police... back in april.... a different suspect was in police custody, but escaped from metro's northeast area command. he was on the run for more than two weeks. officers arrested ivan mayoral for stealing a car... during booking....he got out of his handcuffs, walked out of the interview room, and left the building. no one noticed police re- arrested mayoral sixteen days later. the holiday weekend is here.... las vegas is expecting 300 thousand visitors. many of them hitting the road. some drivers are using turning to technology to help with their using turning to technology to help with their travels...

holy trinity a-m-e church around 2 a-m. that's near lake mead and las vegas boulevard. a witness who saw the flames says something filled with liquid was thrown at the door... and another object was tossed through the glass above the door...setting the drapes and part of the ceiling on fire. a reverand at the church says she doesn't believe they were targeted. "we feel that it was just a random act of violence that's all. we pray for them and hope that they will come come back and see what we can do to help them. and fire crews say the blaze caused about 10 thousand dollars in damages. another early morning fire completely destroys a vacant apartment complex. and neighbors say squatters could be to blame. this is what's left of the property near sahara and las vegas boulevard. witnesses told fire officials they saw someone crawl out of a second story window...jump to a roof on the first floor and run away. he was found a block away and treated for burns. the property owner says he's had problems with

january... he says he's tried everything...includ ing signs, a gate and locks...nothing's worked. investigators say theyre still looking into the cause of the fire. teachers are watching and waiting to see if esa will pass, and they're wondering how it will affect their jobs. the program has been tied up in the courts since january. people opposing e-s-a... say it takes money away from struggling public schools. others argue it gives parents the choice of where to enroll their kids. "david o' ma academy" is one school that has been affected. they've had to lay-off over a dozen teachers because the e-s-a funding hasn't come in. "i feel awful for them because now they no longer have a place for their kids, you know. where we should have this school choice but also now their unemployed and a lot of them did not have time to go get another employment job, especially as a teacher." the school says they are staying hopeful that a decision about e-

a man has been arrested in connecticut--- accused of phoning in a threat to the new sandy hook elementary school on the first day of school. the new building replaces the building that was demolished after the 2012 shooting that left 20 people and six educators dead. police say pierre beauvil called the school's main office a couple weeks back asking when the first day of school was... when they told him-- he called back and made a threat. 49 people were killed and dozens pulse nightclub terror attack. now we are hearing more of the 911 calls of family and friends of those inside the club during the shooting rampage. cnn's brynn gingras reports. caller: "i told him just to stay quiet and hide in a corner or something." heartbreaking 911 calls released of family and friends distraught as the pulse nightclub attack unfolded... knowing their loved ones were trapped inside - dispatch: "do you know if she's been hurt?"

more than a week after an earthquake rocked central italy.... a dog is freed from the rubble.

we continue to get a lot of rants either in support or critical of donald trump and the immigration plans he laid out after visiting mexico. he doubled down on deportation and his border wall -- but he's also sending some mixed signals... when he took a softer approach in his meeting with mexico's president. voicemails! so i'm just curious. what's donald trump saying that's so hateful about explicitly criminal immigrants and undocumented illegal immigrants. so i'm just curious as to why that would make legal immigrants upset. i actually went online and changed my vote to republican.
