honor student at itt technical institute... he had taken out 50-thousand dollars in student loans to go to the school, and was planning to graduate in just a few months. "i needed to find out how much potential i had and i wanted to go further." but this morning he woke up to this email... itt tech was shutting down immediately. john wouldn't be getting a diploma. "shocked. very shocked. three and a half years of studying and putting my all into my all into my education to try to better and to find out through an email that my school is closed." "john came by the campus to try and get more information, but today the doors -- are locked" "no representatives to talk to, no way of getting any kind of information from the school, you know i have no idea what to do next. just trying to figure it out" in the email to students, itt tech said it was forced to close because of sanctions put on the school by the department of education. it wouldnt let the school accept students who use federal aid, and forced it to pay an additional $150 million dollars as

the school closed. that punishment came after accreditors said the for-profit school was out of compliance with educational standards. "all too many times people were going through the programs in it for example, and they were getting a degree but they were not getting the certifications that employers demand" john says like many of his classmates, he's frustrated and confused. but the closure isn't going stop him from trying to reach his goals. wasn't until about 30 minutes ago when they finally revealed that it was the husband who killed his wife... and now they think they have a motive. last night we knew that the police had been called out to this house before to settle some sort of argument... but nobody was arrested and at the time it didn't sound like anything too serious. well now we're learning that the wife was in the process of moving out of the house when at some point she came by to pick up some stuff.... and police say her husband pulled out a handgun and killed her. of course the most heartbreaking part in all of this is that there are two kids caught in the middle of this... the couple's 9 year old daughter, and the woman's 14 year old daughter. they werent home at the time... but obviously they have to being going through a lot. the enemy was inside. the gun was inside the house. it's not like someone broke in or

that foul play was involved - after a person was found dead at a peccole ranch neighborhood in the west valley. metro officers responded to what was descibed as a suspicious person call on winner cup drive - near grand canyon and sahara - around 8-30 this morning. police on the scene said a woman's body was found when they arrived. the coroner has not yet released an int cause of death. the hunt continues for a man who escaped police custody friday - after being arrested for murder. fox5's kathleen jacob talked to north las vegas police. she joins us live from the newsroom to tell us what they're doing to find the suspect. john, christine... police are not releasing any new information at this time... but we did a little digging here and it looks like they're pulling out all the stops to find this guy. every criminal case of his... from misdemeanor

to more serious felony charges... are flagged with a warrant... making it clear of his wanted status to any officer who comes across him. one of the most recent charges stemmed from a july 25th incident. a manager at peterson motel and apartments shared surveillence video with us that shows what appears to be perez pulling out a gun and firing nine shots at the managing office. just a refresher... perez has been on the run since friday. north las vegas police say perez twisted his handcuffs until they broke and then walked out of an interview om truck, and took off. of course this is something we'll be following closely. again, police could not release anything new today... but they do say they hope he hasn't left the area. live in the newsroom... kathleen jacob... fox5 news. local. las vegas. a woman is dead - after being hit by a motorcycle last night in north las vegas. it happened just before 8-30 p-m.... at the intersection of lake mead and webster.

was taken to u-m-c - where she was later declared dead. the motorcycle rider suffered minor injuries. the crash remains under investigation. it's unclear whether the woman was in a marked crosswalk. a deputy on a motorcycle was taken to a hospital - being hit by a vehicle in pahrump. the nevada highway patrol says it happened in the area of state routes 372 and 160 just before 11 this morning. the nye county deputy had the motorcycle's lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash. valley times reports the deputy was up and walking around after the crash. the deputy was airlifted to u-m-c with non-life threatening but serious injuries. there was no word of injuries involving the other driver in the incident. it was not immediately known if the driver will be cited. state officials are remembering thalia dondero... the first woman elected to the clark county commission. she's in my opinion an icon in this community. one of the people that exemplify what a public servant

searching - the hunt for the "philae" comet robot is over. new images from rosetta's high- resolution camera captured the little robot and were downlinked to earth late sunday greg palkot has all the details on the discovery. nearly two years after getting lost in space... the european space agency says it has finally found its philae (fee-lay) lander. the rosetta orbiting probe capturing new images of the little robot wedged in a crack of a comet. taylor says: "the lander is in a big ditch, in a hole or a pocket as it's being described and the sun doesn't shine there." the rosetta mission launched in 2004... it took a decade for the orbiter to reach the comet.. history was made a few months later when it dropped the philae probe. but things went wrong -- the lander bounced out of view -- sending only a few messages before going silent. the robot's solar battery had died, and philae was declared lost and dead back in march. taylor says: "we made some subtle adjustments to the way that we were
