live from las vegas fox5 news at 6 starts now. a murder suspect -- who twisted out of handcuffs while in custody -- is still on the run tonight... and it turns out these aren't the firt charges he has run from... a couple is dead in a murder-suicide in anthem. why neighbors say police have been called out to the home before... they paid for an education they won't get to finish -- at least not at i-t-t tech. the steps hundreds of students will have to get what they paid for. this is fox5 news at 6. local. las vegas the hunt continues for the man who escaped police custody friday after police arrested him for murder. i'm john huck. i'm christine maddela. today -- north las vegas police won't release any new details but say they hope he is still in the area.

jacob is live in studio to update us on the search. john, christine, you're right. police aren't realeasing any new information until alonso perez is caught... but we did a little digging here... and found out they're pulling out all the stops to get this guy back in custody. alonso perez has been running free since friday... but police are on high alert. every criminal case of his... from misdemeanor traffic citations to more serious felony charges.... are flagged with a warrant... making sure any fi comes across him knows he's wanted. one of the most recent charges stemmed from something that happened july 25th. a manager at peterson motel and apartments shared surveillence video with us that shows what appears to be perez pulling out a gun and firing nine shots at the managing office. the manager says this came purely from anger that the manager wouldn't let him in the office. we were able to find a case that matched the manager's description. it shows charges from the same date, accusing perez of

structure... and assault with a deadly weapon. perez has been on the run since friday. he's accused of shooting and killing 31-year-old mohammad nestor robinson after an argument in a north las vegas mcdonalds parking lot. he was taken into custody a few days later and escaped from an interview room. north las vegas police say perez twisted his handcuffs until they broke and stole a truck to get away. we've learned a little more about perez. both he and his girlfriend used to work at the summerlin. we'll be following this story closely and of course let you know as soon as we know anything else. if you know anything about perez's whereabouts... call north las vegas police or crime stoppers at 702-385-55-55.

killing his one-time roommate is being released from jail tonight. michael lanunziata was taken into custody after a man was found shot to death in a neighborhood near us-95 and nevada state drive. henderson police say lanunziata remained at the scene after the shooting in the early morning hours of august 27-th. neighbors said it looked like someone was moving out at the time. henderson police tell us lanunziata is no longer a suspect... but that the incident remains under investigation. a husband appears to have killed his wife before killing himself according to henderson police. what's still not clear is why. fox5's adam herbets is live near their home in anthem highlands... with what neighbors say about the couple... and their family. henderson police department has been looking into this since last night... but it wasn't until about 30 minutes ago when they finally revealed that it was the husband who killed his

they think they have a motive. last night we knew that the police had been called out to this house before to settle some sort of argument... but nobody was arrested and at the time it didn't sound like anything too serious. well now we're learning that the wife was in the process of moving out of the house when at some point she came by to pick up some stuff.... and police say her husband pulled out a handgun and killed her. of course the most heartbreaking part in all of this is that there are two kids caught in the middle of this... the couple's 9 year old daughter, and the woman's 14 year old daughter. they werent home at the time... but obviously they have to being going through a lot. the enemy was inside. the gun was inside the house. it's not like someone broke in or someone assaulted them, and that has a curiosity. i didn't think it was going to be anything so sad. i

89. his confession came in federal court as he pleaded "guilty" to a child pornography charge. police say heinrich led investigators to the child's body last week... as part of a plea deal. he was named a person of interest in the case a year earlier. the family says they can now lay their son to rest. "i want to say jacob i'm so sorry, it is incredibly painful to know his last days, last hours, last minutes." "for us jacob was alive, until we found, until we found him, we need to heal. we will speak with you there. there are a lot of lessons learned and there's a lot more work to do to protect all of our world's children ." a plea deal means heinrich will not be charged with the boy's death. he faces the statutory maximum of 20 years on the child pornography count. however -- judge john tunheim will decide his sentence.

i-t-t technical institute suddenly shuts its doors at campuses across the country -- including here in the valley. the school had two locations and more than 400 students in the las vegas area fox5's eric hilt talked with some of those students -- eric how did those students find out about the closure? students told me they woke up to an email telling them the school was shut down -- and that was the first they heard about this closure. that email read that the school was closing because of the penelties sent down from the department of education -- which banned the school from accepting students using federal financial aid, and forced it to pay 150 million dollars as insurance for students in case the school closed. the email left students frustrated, like john collins jr., who took out 50 thousand dollars

graduate in a few months -- now he's just hoping his three years as a student wont go to waste. "it's horrible, i mean i just dont have the words to describe how, the way i feel right now. i put my all into bettering myself and for it to just end...it's just a terrible ending" those sanctions came after a group ruled the school did not meet education qualifications. other local information and technology centers say often times students would graduate, but would not have the certification they needed to get hired. students like john who had not graduated yet have the opportunity to have their federal student loans deferred...to do that you can head to the federal student aid website. you can find the link to that page within this story on our website-- fox5 5 vegas dot com. students can also try and finish their education at another school -- but it will be difficult. it even says right on the itt tech

are unlikely to transfer. we have seen a few other schools shut down suddenly this year... leaving their students in limbo. "gold star school of gaming" closed last month, and students say they had no warning. and hundreds of cosmetology students were out of luck back in february, when two "marinello school of beauty" locations closed a new hotel and casino on the plans to open later this year. how its grand opening will embrace the asian culture... and when the resort will start

city officials are remembering thalia dondero...the first woman elected to the county commission. current county commission chair steve sisolak says when it comes to anything nevada... dondero was google before there was google. "thalia was the when it happened and it gave you firsthand experience, first hand accounting in terms of how things came about and that's what's invaluable that will never be replaced. now people have to look in a book or google something to find out. we could just, go to thalia when we didn't know how it worked. so she was a great lady." dondero was elected in 1974 and served for more than two decades. she was later elected to the nevada system of higher education board of regents and served on the las vegas valley water district board.

three nevada national guardsmen were killed in a 20-11 mass shooting in carson city. nevada soldiers in kuwait ran in a memorial to honor them on the five year anniversary today. lieutenant colonel heath kelly, master sergeant christian riege and sergeant miranda mcelhiney were killed in the attack. 200 soldiers and civilians participated in the run. the memorial included an officer's rendition of "amazing grace" as a farewell to the soldiers before the runners took off. "i deployed with master sgt reige and i worked with colonel kelly and sgt. mcelhiney and it was just a great event to be able to do and it's great to remember them in this capacity, especially being so far away from home" one civillian was killed... and seven others were injured in the shooting at a carson city restaurant. many runners in kuwait say they were in carson city five years ago when the shooting happened.

date is set for the lucky dragon hotel and casino. the property will open its doors on saturday december third. it's on sahara near las vegas boulevard. to celebrate -- there will be a series of asian demonstrations including a firecracker show -- which they say accompanies many asian holidays and celebrations to drive away evil spirits. a lion and dragon dance will bring good luck to all. the world's largest traditional kung fu tea service will also run throughout the hotel. the resort says they'll start accepting reservations through its website on saturday october first. the clark county commissioners named today "connor fields day"... after the local olympian took home a gold metal. he's also honored for all of his community service. connor fields is the first american to win a gold medal in b-m-x racing. county commissioners recognized field's work in the community and also gave him a key to the strip. he speaks at schools, volunteers for "make a wish", and is helping out with a prom for children with special needs. "i've been all around the world for competitions, but i always look forward to coming resident of clark county, i grew up here, it's home, and it's a huge honor to have my own day and a key to the strip! " fields graduated from green valley high school, and now attends unlv. liberty high school is celebrating a huge win over the weekend with a very infectious dance. haka dance nats friday night-- the patriots walked away with victory against the number one high
