school" parents dropped off their kids for the first time since quarter of a cup of mercury was found on the campus -- and some say six days later -- they still have questions "i want some clarity on the amount?" "why did it take so long for them to communicate what was going on?" "there's plenty of questions, but im glad they took the precautions they did to make sure the kids are safe" we got a look at some of those precautions taken insi the gym -- where ccsd says the mercury was found and the area the epa said had the highest levels of contamination -- 10 to 15 times higher than the levels considered safe for kids. during the clean-up, workers took out a chunk of the gym floor. "crews also ripped up the carpeting that was right here at the entrance of the gym, saying that students may have tracked the mercury onto it as well" "many of those areas were removed for procautionary measures to make sure that we removed any material that

be contaminated" as for what all that clean up work will cost? -- ccsd says it doesn't have a pricetag just yet. "we're working with our insurance and risk management department to see how much that will cost and what is potentially covered " last wednesday students had to turn over their shoes, socks and backpacks for testing before they went home. 100 parents brought additional items for testing... out of all of that, by the epa and will be destroyed -- ccsd says parents can file a claim with the district to get refunded. it definitely paid

a henderson teenager has been missing for nearly a year. and police are hoping someone recognizes her, so they can bring her home. you are looking at 17-year-old "ellen perna"... she may go by the nickname "ellie". investigators believe she may be somewhere in las vegas. if you have seen her... call police immediately. it's a federal program meant to help homeo who are about to lose their homes... the troubled asset relief program... or tarp ... gave money to homeowners in the 19 states hardest hit by the recession... including nevada... but fox5 uncovered a recent audit by the special inspector generals office found the money was instead used for big parties, car allowances, and gifts... fox5's miguel martinez valle dove in to the 50 page audit to tell us what he found. in this audit we found out a little

actually went to homeowners, but the company expensed more than 660 thousand. so where did that extra 168 thousand dollars go? take a look. the audit shows the company instead spent the money on an employee winter social, a holiday luncheon, gift cards... among other things. the company is called nevada affordable housing assistance corporation. the state hired the corporation to distribute tarp funding to need. the audit deemed 8.2 million dollars in wasteful spending. i'm still going through the complicated findings. the company also drastically cut the number of homeowners receiving funds. i'll have that part of the story coming up on fox5 news at five.

said sales goals will be dropped at the beginning of the year. ohio police are investigating a bizarre case... a heart was discovered in a ziplock bag... and investigators say it is likely human. the heart was found in the middle of a field, and tossed in a dumpster. but the person who tossed it told police about it, and they found it in the trash. police say the heart is in good condition, and it had just started to decompose. investigators say there's no sign the heart was part of a violent crime.... and it may have been frozen before it was found. year-old fidencio sanchez struggling to push his paletas cart through little village. we found mr. sanchez and his cart on 26th street selling his ice cream and popsicles. it's a job he's been doing for 20 years but only in the summer and on nice winter days. he leaves paleteria poncho every morning, pushing the 50-pound cart for as long as he can. some days making only $8, other days $80. ( paleteria poncho ) "everybody in little village has a lot of respect for him, because he's a hard worker. now that everything became so big and everybody's actually giving the respect, it's just amazing." he was finally slowing down, but then his daughter, who helped support him and his wife, died in june. so when this picture was taken and the go-fund-me account started, it was with the hope of helping mr. sanchez take a day off here and there. but what happened warmed the hearts of everyone
