"my philosophy is that some people dread change in their lives, i happen to thrive on it. i think it's healthy both for individuals and for organizations as they move forward. i look at change as an oppourtunity. i think it's exciting." another big focus was the third presidential debate - which unlv will host next month. jessup says the event will bring a unique learning opportunity for students and positive publicity to the school. some changes are also in store... for u-n-l-v's mascot "hey reb" "about every ten years, this university in it's history has done a refresh or an update on the athletic logo and it's been about a decade. it's time to do a refresh again and we've got a good committee of people both on campus and off that are going to kick that process off for us here." complaints over the mascot have come up in the past over allegations of ties to the confederacy. the r-j reports the school has budgeted fifty- thousand dollars to hire a consultant - and

danny tarkanian's carrying a lot of baggage. as a real-estate developer, tarkanian was penalized for failing to pay thousands in property taxes. tarkanian was ordered by a judge to repay $17 million in a failed development scheme. refused to pay the money back, forcing taxpayers to bail him out, leaving us holding the bag. danny tarkanian's out for himself, not us.

the suspect was shot at least twice during a struggle with officers trying to subdue him. police say the man has been hospitalized in critical condition - while an off-duty police detective also has been hospitalized. he has a slash wound to the face. the family of a woman found dead in her jail cell has reached a one- point-nine million dollar wrongful death settlement. sandra bland was initially arrested for failing to use her turn signal. the settlement includes compensation for bland's death in custody - as well as several changes to jail procedures in waller county, texas. nancy loo spoke with bland's mother - who says the settlement is not about the money. closed captioning

some of the other changes at the jail include... providing an on- duty nurse or emergency medical technician for all shifts... and providing continuing education for jailer screening. federal regulators recalled one million galaxy samsung note seven smart- phones amid reports of the phone catching fire. this product presents such a serious fire hazard i am urging all consumers take advantage of this recall right away." dozens of users reported that fires occurred during charging. the recall comes after samsung said earlier this month that it would stop selling galaxy note sevens. the c-p-s-c says the company got 92 u-s-based reports of batteries overheating. that included 26 burn reports and 55 reports of property damage
