fox5's abby theodros did some digging today..she joins us live in the fox5 newsroom with the story.. i was there today and witnessed the trash problem for myself. but dont take my for it - listen to this woman's first hand experience. sandy: oh, everything. ive seen mattresses, out on the street, ive seen syringes at the park, ive seen glass all of this inside the gated community at centennial park near the 215 and says the neighborhood looked a lot different when she got the grand tour sandy: im horrified. i mean i spent 25 k dollars of my life savings to buy the fisrt house ive ever bought. and i did it because theres an hoa and i never thought i would move into a neighborhood full of garbage so badly that there's rats in the neighborhood. she wasnt kidding. sandy- who didnt
6:02 pm
use her last name - showed us this picture...of a dead rat sprawled out near so mone's home. sandy: the garbage just lays there. more than her frustration towards what she calls messy neighbors - sandy is calling on the hoa to do something about it. sandy: we're not getting any help from the hoa. the hoa says they dont have the money to pick up the garbarge on a weekly basis. right now republic services comes twice a week to clear out garbage bins. the hoa says it ocassionaly helps with the excess trash. nats i called the community manager and asked her about the problem. she didnt want us to use her voice but in that conversation she told me they hire outside contractors when there's a need for it but they're considering a weekly pick up. nats sandy is paying her hoa 40 dollars a month sandy: we were told its going towards roaming security more than anything

neighborhood we also asked the hoa about their violation process - they told me violators get two warnings and if they dont act on it - theyre required to meet with the board. and if theyre still commiting a violation - they might be fined. so a lot of lienency. live in the news room abby theodros fox5news local las vegas. the h-o-a says they plan to hold a meeting in october where it will decide on how to handle the trash problem. we have a follow up to a story we brought you tuesday... an audit by the special inspector generals office on a federal program meant to help homeowners brought to light some disturbing expenses... the company tasked with distributing federal money to nevadan's to keep them in their homes was instead using the funds on big parties, and employee gifts... fox5s miguel martinez-valle has been following the story all
6:04 pm
with the new c-o-o of the company to discuss the controversial audit... inside this 50 plus page audit... countless examples of wreckless spending and unnecessary expenses that added up to $8.2 million dollars of tarp money wasted... today i asked the coo where the nevada affordable housing assistance corporation goes from here... verise campbell started as coo of nahac in june... so she says she was more than a little shocked when months later this audit came out claiming those in charge before her could have been misusing funds... the audit not only details thousands of dollars spent on holiday parties and car expenses... it also signals a dramatic drop in the number of nevadan's getting into this program to get money and avoid foreclosures.. she says thats why her main priority is getting those in need into the program and the money back in their hands... as well as gaining back the trust of those nahac is supposed to be helping. " although we're looking at that report, we're
6:05 pm
fixed... we need to keep our focal point on what we're doing as far as new programs, new system changes, to get more of the money out to our homeowners.. " they've already started some of those changes... employees of nahac are being trained so they can start taking phone calls next week and walking homewowners through the application process. they're also trying to roll out a program for those who are looking at programs in other states for guidance. campbell tells me while she's prepared to deal with the fallout from this audit, her main priority is getting more people into the hardest hit program...and the money into homeowners hands. nahac says they will also be more transparent... working more closely with the treasury and sigtarp in the future a metro motorcycle officer was
