six people were hurt this morning... after a crash involving four cars and one motorcycle. you can see some of the aftermath here... with car parts scattered around the road...

the motorcycle wedged under a car. the crash happened just before ten-30, at north commerce street and west carey. police say one of the cars ran a red light... and they believe that driver was also speeding. the injuries range from minor to critical. this was a very large scene, and police are calling it a daunting investigation. a suspect has been captured... after a string of bombings in new york and new jersey. both the suspect and police officers were hurt during a shootout this morning. ""..the offi relized that this might be the person that the fbi's been looking for. the officer then said show me your hands, and the person went to the side of his body and pulled out a handgun and fired right at the officer." " investigators found "ahmad kahn rahami ) " sleeping in a bar hallway in linden, new jersey. . officials launched a manhunt for him just hours before his arrest. rahami is accused of setting off explosions in new jersey and new york city. last night, one of the devices blew up in elizabeth, new jersey... the same city rahami was last known to

call orange traffic cones... "nevada's state flower". but now, get ready to see more of them! a two year project is officially underway... to widen the i-15 near the las vegas motor speedway. fox5's christine maddela joins us live from our newsroom to explain why this project is so important. this project will widen five miles of the four-lane interstate to six travel lanes. let's take a look at the area that will be affected. the project is near north las vegas. it will expand a stretch of highway between craig road and speedway boulevard. crews will also improve drainage areas and upgrade four overpass structures. fox5 was there for a ground- breaking ceremony today at the las vegas motor speedway. this area sees hundreds of thousands of visitors at a time, for some of our

we've seen the traffic problems that come after nascar weekend or the electric daisy carnival. and this project will do more than help people coming too and from speedway events. las vegas motor speedway president chris powell says widening the 1-15 is a much needed change to our valley's freeway system. " it impacts the whole community, when you travel northbound or southbound, you're going to have so much more space to maneuver. that means fewer backups, which is good for the environment, it is good all the way around for people who want to live more efficiently around the valley. " powell says between 70 and 80 percent of speedway guests are not from nevada... so they hope this i-15 widening will encourage more people to come back to las vegas. the project costs 34 million dollars, which comes from a small tax you pay each time you fill up your car at the pump. and this isn't the only major project underway. this weekend, a ramp from u-s 95

as part of project neon. crews are widening the area between sahara and the spaghetti bowl. officals tell us it may be frustrating to see all of those orange cones now, but it is a sign of progress. a scooter rider suffered critical injuries... after a mini-van ran a stop-sign and hit him. police are trying to find the van's driver now. fox5 viewer jasmine douglas sent us video showing the aftermath of the crash. this happened yesterday near eastern and owens. police say bystanders tried to comfort the victim, but weren't able to catch up to the van. metro says that mini-van is a 1999 to 2004 dark blue honda odyssey. it will have left side damage and a broken left-side passenger window. if you have information that can help police, call crimestoppers at

blasio, new york) we have every reason to believe this was an act of terror on monday morning, the n-y-p-d and f-b-i released a photo of ahmad khan rahami, and asked the public for help in finding him. in a matter of hours -- he was in custody, after a shootout with police. (commissioner james p. o'neill, new york) now that we have a suspect in custody the investigation can focus on other aspects, such as whether this individual acted alone and what his motivations may have been the 28 year-old suspect -- believed to be seen on surveillance cameras near the chelsea bombing site saturday night -- rolling a duffel bag. he is a naturalized u-s citizen from afghanistan. saturday's explosion left 29 people injured. all have been released from the hospital. authorities say a backpack of explosives was found at rehami's last-known address, in elizabeth, new jersey. sought in connection with three bombings, he was added to terror watch lists, to help stop him from leaving the country. police tracked him down in linden, new jersey, near elizabeth. blast. two officers injured in today's shootout have non-critical injuries. investigators say they've found no evidence so far that the suspect was part of a broader terrorist cell. rahami is a naturalized u-s citizen from afghanistan. he lived with his family above a restaurant owned by his father - near the airport in newark. in minnesota - police say a man who stabbed nine people in a mall saturday - worked as a security guard for one of the stores. he was shot and killed by an off- duty police officer. the job was temporary - and ended in june. the off-duty officer was shopping at the time. he was described by a minnesota police chief as the "right person - at the right place - at the right time" - and someone who - quote - "needed to be there". isis has claimed responsibility for the attack in minnesota. and with all the recent violence - we wanted to know... how safe are we here in a big tourist destination like las vegas? fox5's kathleen jacob joins us live from the strip. kathleen what did you find out? christine... john... i
