area has opened back up. fox5's kathleen jacob joins us now after speaking to a man who was inside the stabucks ... and even tried to save the victim's life. kathleen? that's right faith... medin gebrezgier was inside the starbucks this morning when he said the suspect started firing shots. he describes a scene that's filled with both confusion and sheer panic. all he said was going through his mind was just to stay a life. it was just stay alive, stay alive, find a way to stay alive... and pray and other than that it was just around me. that's all that ran through medin gebrezgier's head when a man started firing a gun in this starbucks. we were all afraid for our lives... we didn't know what was gonna happen next. police say a man drove this truck through the starbucks drivethrough... and when his card was declined he became agitated, that's when they say he walked into the starbucks.. fired a couple rounds in the air.. and then shot another customer in the chest. i thought this was a joke at first. i thought this was a recording, someone was

has always been part of the election process. but as karin caifa reports... it's actually more modern than you think. --reporter pkg-as follows-- it may seem like they date back to the days of the founding fathers. but really, presidential debates are a product of the television era. the two major party nominees debated for the first time in 1960. and after kennedy and nixon, presidential contenders didn't debate again until 1976. since then, the fall face-offs have been cemented as an election year staple, for presidential hopefuls -- and their running mates. (sarah palin) "can i call you joe?" much like a new fall t-v drama, one episode can be make-or-break, creating moments in history that become game changers, like for then president gerald ford in 1976 -- (former president gerald r. ford) there is no soviet domination of eastern europe. and michael dukakis in 1988. (bernard shaw, moderator)

dukakis were raped and murdered, would you favor an irrevocable death penalty for the killer? (former gov. michael dukakis) i don't see any evidence that it's a deterrent, and i think there are better and more effective ways to deal with violent crime. both responses, considered major missteps. neither would win in november. a well-placed laugh line, however, can win over an audience, maybe even an electorate. like ronald reagan on concerns about his age, during his 1984 re-election bid, at age 73. (president r reagan) i will not make age an issue of this campaign. i am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience. there's no consitutional mandatethat says the presidential and vice presidential candidates have to debate one another. but the audiences are often too great to pass up. during the last election cycle in 2o12, 67-point-2 million viewers watched the first debate between president obama and mitt romney. after months of
