local news at 5:30. let's get you up to date with the latest local headlines. if you see something...say something... that's the message henderson parents and police are reminding their kids now.. more than ever... just last week... police recieved two reports of strangers approaching children who were on their way home from school.... fox-5's vince sapienza spoke with henderson p-d regarding the incidents and is in the newsroom with more..... john.... the word police are using to describe the reports made last week regarding possible luring cases...is being called unsubstantiated.... ... now that doesn't mean police are saying it didn't happen... it just means they have been unable to corroborate the stories.... two different cases of child luring in a matter of days. one from mannion middle school. the other at greenspun junior high. "make sure parents are not just paying attention to their own kids, but everyone elses children, again it takes a community to raise our children and we want to make sure

henderson p-d tells me since august 1st there have investigated 10 cases that loosely relate to child luring. police say so far there is no pattern between any of them - but the investigations are still ongoing. "it's not uncommon to have those actions misinterpreted, but as a community we recognize we can't dismiss anyone type of acitivity, so we want to be vigilant all the time." one of the reports filed to ccsdpd and henderson pd occured right here, near the intersection of arroya grande and wigwam parkway, just about a half mile away from greenspun junior high. according to the report a girl was walking home from school, when a man in a green van slowed down said hello and smiled at her, she knew something was wrong so tried to speed up to get away, he continued to follow her, it wasn't until the girl began to cry that the away. "one of the things is to make sure you are in groups, that you're not isolated in an area all by yourself." "complete descriptions are very important, and those are things that we can teach our children, they're very observant" henderson has been rated in the

years. but that doesn't mean mom and dad should stop teaching their kids how to be safe. "we do have predators, we know that and it's important for parents to recognize it's nto the way it was 30, 40, 50 years ago, we have to be vigilant with our children." parents i spoke with today...declined to go on camera.... but words like terrifying...distur bing...and upsetting....were the basis of their reactions.... police say one of the best ways to prevent your kids from being prey is if they do have to walk home from school... to do so in large groups.. also.. if your kid has a cell phone.. teach them the importance of dialing 9-1-1.. as well helping them understand the information necessary for police in those situations.... from the newsroom.. im vince sapienza..fox5 news..local.. las vegas..

in henderson - by her husband - while three kids were at home. michael kaplan has been charged with murder with a deadly weapon police say when they arrived - he was covered in blood. he told police there was a woman who was quote - "sick and hurt". police say he waited before admitting he was the husband of the victim. the coroner says the woman - 30 year old amanda kaplan died from a stab wound to the chest. nieghbors say the couple was known to argue in the past. "....why? what happened?" three kids were home at the time... ranging from 7 months to seven years old. ranging from 7 months to seven years old. they are now staying with family members. a declined credit card leads to chaos and confusion...then a murder this weekend at a local starbucks. police say 34-

coffee at the starbucks off rainbow and warm springs. they say an argument led to another customer being shot. then different witness descriptions led police to believe there was a possible hostage situation. the shooter also told police he had an explosive... leading to an evacuation of neighboring businesses. i'm sad someone lost there life and it's good that they got the guy that did that. that starbucks is closed today and garcia is behind bars. there was no explosive at the scene and this was situation. the coffee shop is expected to be back open tomorrow. police say one person is dead... and a shooter is still on the run. the crime scene unfolded outside of a business off decatur and flamingo. police say 27- year-old ezekiel davis was shot several times just before 6-30 sunday morning. they say there was some sort of fight between the shooter and the victim. davis was taken to u-m-c where he died just minutes later. metro says there is a recording studio inside the
