to say--- they're happy with how the candidate from their party did. hillary clinton and donald trump-- went head to head in the first presidential debate. and people from all over the valley gathered to watch. dwight mazzone-- is the chairman of the clark county republican party. he organized this watch party at neche in townsquare. the crowd here was fired up over the donald's performance. : " i think he's gotten into a groove, he's starting to talk the way peop talk. he's giving solutions. i think the american people are looking for change" congresswoman dina titus-- disagrees. she joined us via skype... after watching the debate. she thinks hillary clinton was tonight's clear winner. : " it was just an outstanding performance by hilary clinton she showed she had the depth of knowledge, the experience, the tempermant to be president and that's what she needed to do." and while democrats and republicans may hold tight to their opinions--- believing trump

out on top tonight-- "i like the anwsers that donald's giving.. in my mind, i'm very republican, i think hillary stumbled a few times" "i think she pushed some of his buttons when she started talking about some of his problems right off the bat" one thing they can agree on -- tonight has them fired up for the upcoming debates especially the third and final one here in town at u- n-l-v. : "i'm looking forward to having a big turnout, since it's here i think were gonna have a big turnout for a show like this" : "i'm very excited that we're gonna have a debate in nevada, it's going to make unlv look good, it's gonna make las vegas look good, a lot of international people are going to be watching this, so i'm excited about that" a lot of people are weighing i this debate on social media-- twitter says this was the most- tweeted debate ever.

hosted in hofstra university tonight but the last one will be right here in unlv... tonight the university hosted a watch party for students and community members we sent fox5's miguel martinez valle to the viewing, he has more local reactions... unlv is really trying to get the students and the vegas community excited and ready for the last debate... so tonight as hillary clinton and donald trump took the stage, food, drinks, two giant screens, and a chance for discussion to hundreds of students and community members who showed up to the watch party. who won the first presidential debate between clinton and trump? that... really depends on who you ask. own presidential debate in a few weeks, so to make sure students are ready, they're inviting people in to watch and comment on the early debates. barbara blue, unlv : " i mean this is a once in a lifetime thing for the students to say a presidential debate was hosted on their campus, same thing as faculty and staff members, this is a great experience to be a part of... and that's why i think the watch parties tonight and the ones leading up to 10/19 is just gonna be a great experience." and comment they did, while not everyone stayed for the post debate q&a portion of the party, those in attendance were pretty vocal during some of the more memorable rt of presidential show -down shalonda forrest, student " just the fact that donald trump kept talking about inner cities but he wasn't really specifying what he was talking about... he kept saying chicago chicago people are dieing" and while some student's were concerned by what they didn't hear... carlos hernandez, student: " i failed to see donald trump ever talk about college tuition, and many studentsd look foer that issue" most agreed, watching the candidates in these types of debates is gonna help them out come november...

students will get to witness history... and have a chance to watch the presidential debate in october. "it's just going to be such a historic election and i want to be there" "there are signs all over the place, i have a couple classes that are cancelled that day because of the parking situation and everything, so probably a lot of people going" about 75 student tickets will be up for grabs. the school will distribute them through a lottery system. only current, full-time unlv students can enter this lottery. undergrad students must have a minimum two-point-oh g-p- a... and no outstanding conduct violations or diciplinary action. students have until october 12- th... to enter the lottery. in more local news... a man was found covered in blood... his ex wife lifeless inside her home.

say early saturday morning amanda kaplan was found stabbed to death... her three young children were inside the home during the brutal murder. fox5's cyndi lundeberg joins us now live from the newsroom with more on what investigators are saying. we do want to warn you the details of this arrest report are disturbing... police say michael kaplan called 911 and said a woman was hurt... that woman was his ex wife amanda kaplan. police believe she was lying in bed when she was stabbed... when investigators entered amanda kaplans home they found her in a pink tank top and striped shorts on the ground.. a large kitchen knife was found next to her. police say their children... seven... five and three months old were inside the home when the murder happenned. michael kaplan was found with blood on his hands and feet. a neighbor who watched his arrest told me shes heard fighting from the home... springs... fired two shots into the air... then fired at a customer -- who died. police say garcia called 9-1-1 giving a different description of the shooter. that's why police believed there may have been another gunman and a hostage situation. the shooter told police he had an explosive... which prompted evacuations of businesses in the area... but it turns out there wasn't any. it's pretty sad, it's scary, we just moved over here to to this side of town. garcia has a lengthy criminal hist should not have been in possession of a gun. the the first presidential debate between hillary clinton and donald trump quickly became heated. and -- the pair are in a tight race. we hear from our fox five political analyst about tonight's debate... and how they tackled tough issues. and we may have taught our kids about "stranger danger"... and now -- two reports show children were approached by strangers on their way home from school in henderson. the message police have for parents tonight. your fox5 weather

police ask parents to re- teach the importance of "stranger danger"... after viewers told fox five about two different child luring reports in just one week. "we do have predators, we know that and it's important for parents to recognize it's nto the way it was 30, 40, 50 years ago, we have to be vigilant with our children." henderson police say they have investigated ten child luring cases in the last two months. they recommend kids who walk home to do so in large groups. also -- if your kid has a cell phone... teach them the importance of dialing 9-1-1... as well helping them understand the information necessary for police in those situations. a local team of drone racers need your help finding a new place to practice. they're looking for a parking garage to

just watch. dont believe me just watch. that's "dancing with the stars" alum -- nyle dimarco -- making his debut as the newest chippendale in las vegas. he's the first deaf chippendale... and the first deaf person to win "dancing with the stars" and "america's next top model". the show involves dimarco using sign language -- something he says he's proud of. "we incorporate american sign language and that's not just me, it's the rest of the chippendale dancers, they're also and the goal is to make american sign language more mainstream. hopefully the audience will learn the language." dimarco performs with "the chippendales" until october 16- th at the rio all- suite hotel and casino. the backstreet boys give us a taste of their las vegas residency.
