on to a developing national story now... two children survived a school shooting today in south carolina... police say it was a teenager who pulled the trigger. " we have 3 injured, 2 students that were life-flighted to greenville to the pediatrics trauma center and we have one teacher that has been taken to anmed health. she just told me they went to the bathroom and she was glad she didn't get shot. i'm just so scared i don't even want her to go to school now." police say the gunman opened fire at "townville elementary school." one student was hit in the leg, the other in the foot. a teacher suffered a shoulder injury. police also discovered the shooter's father's body, three miles from the school. that teenage suspect has been arrested. a charter school student sat through class with a broken elbow for hours last week... and after airing her story yesterday... parents have a lot of questions. lleylan eisenhour goes to coral academy on nellis air force base. she was playing on the monkey bars

her elbow. her mom says she was sent to the office instead of a nurse... because the school did not have a nurse at the time. the office sent lleylan back to class... and mom was never told what was going on until she picked up a tearful lleylan at the end of the day. since then... the school says they have a nurse on staff... and that lleylan wasn't sent home because she did not appear to be in distress. as you can imagine... this story has a lot of parents fired up... asking questions about policy and when a parent should be contacted. fox5's kathleen jacob is live ... questions to the school... kathleen what did they have to say? guys... i've been calling and emailing back and forth with the school all day... and they did just tell me that at the time of the incident they were in the process of hiring a lot of different positions for their new campus... and one of those was a nurse. they do have a nurse on staff now... they say they care about their students and parents very much... and are confident that something like this will not happen again now that they have a nurse. i also asked them about procedure when it comes to contacting parents... and if

this incident... but i have not heard back about that yet. like you said... this is something a lot of people were concerned about... you can see facebook post after facebook post from parents saying they think a parent should have been immediately contacted. we even have posts stating some have had similar experiences at that school and others. we wanted to know what procedures are like... not only at this school, which is a charter and not a part of the school district... but all through our area. we sat down with the clark county school district to see what they would do. they have very specific gde when it comes to evaluating and contacting parents. " anytime there's an accute illness or injury that is considered moderate or severe, or perhaps the child is too young or incapable of communicating what occured to them at school, we would make that parent contact." there's about one nurse for every two schools in the county... so if there isn't a nurse right there on campus.. an aid would check out the injury... if there is any indication that this could be more than just something minor.. they call the nurse and contact
