"very crowded, i've never seen it like this before, never" never seen lines like this at this one nevada credit union branch on decatur and blue diamond "well if it's too long ill go to the one up by my house, i only have so much time for lunch." ...after customers got a call from the credit union yesterday, telling them their debit cards were being deactivated after oo to get their information, and those cards needed to be replaced. "phone call. automated phone call...about 2:00 yesterday" "i thought it was only me, but going inside i found it was quite a few people" but one nevada president brad beal wouldn't tell us exactly how many people were affected. "the exact number im reluctant to disclose because of the ongoing investigation" or how many of those people had money stolen... "but in the final analysis no one incurred a loss because one nevada will stand good for every penny of the money that was taken so none of

take a loss " beal says all of this started when crooks put a skimmer on a card reader... "a skimming device is a device that crooks place over a card reader like at a gas pump or at an atm or some other device and so when the member inserts their card it reads the confidential information" he says these types of breaches are hard to stop...and there's no plans for a change in policy at one nevada... but these days anybody with a card, needs to be careful. "sadly i think its a reality for us these days, is that most consumers sooner or later will have one of their cards comprimised." "i dont care where you go, something's going to happen. beal said the best thing consumers can do is check their accounts often to make sure there isnt unusual spending and to make sure their information is safe. soc

an 18-month-old is behind bars after the child was found with severe burns... and later died. 21-year-old demond billingsley is not related to the little girl... but was babysitting... and police believe he is responsible for her injuries. the little girl was found unresponsive yesterday afternoon near sierra vista drive and desert inn. she was taken to sunrise hospital where staff saw injuries that were consistent with abuse. detectives say the child had severe burns and bruising to parts of her body. a mojave high school student is in juvenile detention tonight-- charged with bringing a gun to school. clark county school district police say the 14- year-old was found with the gun -- but they didn't use it or pull it out. it will be up to school administrators to decide what will happen to that student academically. with one signature by governor brian sandoval.. and a few more steps...

soon have a new stadium. nevada lawmakers decided after three and a half days at a special session... to approve the stadium bill... with a few amendments. fox5's faith tanner was there for the votes... she joins us live now from carson city. the plan to build a nfl stadium in vegas passed the major hurdle early this afternoon --- after the assembly voted it through -- with just enough to votes 28 to 13 the measure did have to go back to the senate because the assembly made amendments to it the state senate -- quickly approved those amendments... to now send the bill off to the governor stadium supporters are certainly celebrating this huge accomplishment today. while critics, voting against the

things up at the legislature for about two hours this morning. the fire-- dubbed the emerald fire-- is burning in south lake tahoe... forcing people in 500-homes to evacuate. the 200-acre wildfire is currently burning near camp richardson. about 500 homes near south lake tahoe are now under a mandatory evacuation. authorities are requesting people living in an additional 500 homes near emerald bay to evacuate voluntarily. the wildfire is only 25-percent contained.

millions of dollars will be spent for las vegas to host the third and final presidential debate next wednesday. today parking, traffic, and some campus buildings started getting affected by the event. all of the surface parking lots around thomas and mack closed... along with the tropicana parking garage and the lot north of the t and m. the dorms will remain open to students living there but will be locked at all times beginning monday at 7. the debate will

wednesday. we will have special coverage on all the impact the debate has on the valley.... and on the election. leaders with the church of jesus christ of latter day saints are telling members to vote against measures that would legalize recreational marijuana... and make assisted suicide legal. recreational marijuana is question two on the nevada ballot. it's also up for a decision in arizona and california. the church says while it tries to remain politically neutral from endorsing candidates... it does want to weight in on morally crucial issues. in a letter, leadersa marijuana in homes is a risk for children and that it can cause brain development problems. their opposition to assisted suicide is rooted in the faith's belief in the sanctity of life. the letter says legalizing the practice "cheapens human life and dignity." question 1 concerning background checks for gun owners has gotten a lot of publicity.. but besides that and the marijuana initiative... there are two other questions on the ballot. a yes to question three would change the nevada constitution -- by adding language that would open

competition. question four would make a tax exemption from the sales and use taz on medical equipment. with just over three weeks to the general election ... donald trump doubles down on sexual misconduct allegations continuing to pile up against him --- claiming all of the claims are patently false.... and while the clinton camp continues to be deluged with leaked e-mails ... big name democrats are hoping to diverge ... stepping up to bat for the democratic nominee in some key in fox news correspondent, joel waldman, is in washington with the latest from the campaign trail. obama says: "hillary is one of the toughest, best prepared peoples to run for this job." hillary clinton's most powerful surrogate, president obama, stumping for the democratic nominee ... warning voters not to be bullied into voting for donald trump over who he describes as the more experienced candidate. bill clinton, also on the campaign trail today, urging voters to stand with his wife on election day ... bill clinton says: "i want you to give hillary the keys ... she's the best

people in oregon are talking about a tornado that touched down there this morning. it started as a waterspout-- and then moved onshore near the town of manzanita. strong winds and heavy rain ripped through the streets...destroyi ng homes and businesses. one woman says all of the windows in her house were blown out. storm is expected to hit the area this weekend. now fox5 weather

let's talk about north carolina now... for the last several days the floodwater in parts of north carolina has come in slow motion, creeping further out of the banks.... displacing hundreds who are now living in shelters... the good news is that kinston has had time to prepare... by closing roads, sandbagging and asking people to evacuate... last weekend when hurricane matthew first arrived, people didn't have that same luxury. sam mcclean has for the second time in just a week, the town of kinston is wading through floodwater. ((nat pop hurricane matthew in nc)) the first time there wasn't much time to prepare -- hurricane matthew dumped a lot of rain on an already saturated city causing flash flooding. it was a similar picture in communities all across the eastern part of the state as flooding swamped homes, wiped out

and left hundreds of thousands in the dark. all that runoff has swollen rivers -- some have still yet to crest. more than 30 people have been killed in the us -- 22 now in north carolina. one of the latest... a driver who went around a barricade and was swept away by floodwater. in kinston, 3 or 400 homes are in the the flood zone this time, as the neuse reaches its crest overnight, but it could have been much worse. mayor b.j. murphy/ kinston, north carolina: well what has been amazing, what has been the worst disaster in history, was hurricane floyd in '99, may actually be the thing that saved a lot of lives this time around because so many homes were bought out and demolished." because of all the damage and unpassable roads .. one judge has ordered the voter- registration deadline extended in at least one georgia county. a new art installation on the strip is pretty square. check this out. a contemporary display made out of legos is now up at the park, the city's newest dining and entertainment district near tmobile arena. they're called park people. constructed by renowned artist nathan sawaya, nine-large scale, brightly colored human figures crafted entirely from lego bricks are sitting on wooden benches. everyone is invited to check out the exhibit... and have a chat with some new, lego friends. "i like to focus on the human form because i think you can get a lot of emotion out of it for a sculpture. i've done other stuff. but for me i thought the human form, sitting on a park bench where people can kind of interact with it was a fun idea to see how people do interact with this type of art."

thanks for joining us for your only local news at 5:30. it's a story we've covered plenty of times before... parents in the valley upset because of problems with their kids' bus we've listened to issues ranging from delayed drop off times to inexperinced bus drivers. fox5's abby theodros spent the day searching for answers and joins us live at one ccsd bus stops near russell and galleria. i told ccsd we've been hearing a lot of complaints about bus drop offs and picks and their drivers...they say theyre short about a hundred drivers and need all the help they can get. as for the parents - a lot of them are losing
