thanks for joining us for your only local news at 5:30. it's a story we've covered plenty of times before... parents in the valley upset because of problems with their kids' bus we've listened to issues ranging from delayed drop off times to inexperinced bus drivers. fox5's abby theodros spent the day searching for answers and joins us live at one ccsd bus stops near russell and galleria. i told ccsd we've been hearing a lot of complaints about bus drop offs and picks and their drivers...they say theyre short about a hundred drivers and need all the help they can get. as for the parents - a lot of them are losing

leslie fry, ccsd mom: its unnerving when you dont know where your kid is. and then when you call the office, no one is in the school office. leslie fry says yesterday was the second time this school year she's had issues with her si x year old daughters school bus. 14-19 leslie fry, ccsd mom: its been issues about ccdc not picking up my child or bringing her on drop off fry says she got an automated call from the school district saying bus issues forced the kids to stay on campus fry isnt the only one with complaints. fox5 received this message from a mother w her bus driver was two hours late. and claims the driver asked the kids on the bus for directions. nats we reached out to ccsd for answers. they couldnt verify the complaints but say they have a serious bus driver shortage. melinda malone, ccsd spokeswoman: we do have right now, 1497 bus drivers and we have 1061 positions. so we have about 104 routes that are not being filled by a permanent bus driver. that means temps are filling in which

delays and inexperienced drivers. melinda malone, ccsd spokeswoman: sometimes the driver is given that route that day, and they need to fill in they have instructions but they are learning as they go. theyre experienced bus drivers but they're not familiar with that particular route so that does cause delays. malone says even though theyve gotten some complaints- they have a 95 percent on time rate. but they want to get that up to 100 percent. which means they need more permanent link to apply for a bus job on our website at fox5 vegas dot com. rex vance wilson is the name of the suspect killed in an officer involved shooting on the 215. the 50-year-old native american man was shot on the highway near hualapai late wednesday night. police said officers were aware of a vehicle description related to a string of robberies in the las vegas and henderson areas. officers noticed an suv tha matched the description and attempted to pull it over near sahara avenue and las vegas boulevard at about 11 p.m. they say wilson

led them on a chase to the 215 and hualapai... where spike strips forced him to stop. they say he got out and had a gun... which led them to fire. the man accused of a stabbing attack on a local realtor told police he is a heavy meth user and that he doesn't know why he does what he does. an arrest report for daniel mora shows he told police he was in a hotel the day ryan vega was stabbed while showing a home on september 30th. mora was gone by the time police arrid, returned to the home his mother owns where he was taken into custody. when police asked mora which hotel he was staying at, he said he could not remember. he's being held at the clark county jail on 100- thousand dollars bail. the number of homicides is up more than 27- percent this year over last. metro police say at the same time last year... 102 people had been killed. as of this past saturday, that number reached 130. as tensions have

shootings across the nation-- local police and city leaders are showcasing what has become a model for other communities. today they held an event at metro headquarters called "repairing the breach: rebuilding police and community trust." metro has been working with religious and community leaders for the past ten years... and say they are ahead of the curve when it comes to uniting cops with the communities they protect... and serve. for a pennsylvania man -- who robbed a nail salon at gunpoint in philadelphia. but the people inside didn't make it easy for him. first -- they came in to ask about the price of a pedicure. they went back outside... before returning moments later. one man can be seen going straight for the register... while the other blocks the front door. you can see the employees all jump in to try and stop the suspect as he takes money from the register.

donald trump. a new poll shows an unexpected surge for third party candidates. the y-2 analytics poll found hillary clinton and donald trump tied with 26-percent support from likely utah voters. what may surprise you...is independent evan mcmullin-- he has 22-percent of likely voters' support. mcmullin-- a mormon-- was a late entrant to the presidential race... utah is one of the few handful of states where the former c-i-a employee will be on the ballot in november. the poll also showed a decent percentage for libertarian gary johnson -- with 15-percent of likely voters' support. early voting is already underway in several states, including minnesota. figures from the associated press show nearly 400- thousand people have already voted ahead of the election... with the biggest turnout so far in iowa. 34 states offer early voting by various dates. early voting here in the silver state begins saturday, october 22nd.

hurricane nicole over bermuda-- nasa astronauts aboard the international space station recorded this video thursday. the i-s-s was in orbit 252-miles above the earth at the time. the storm hit bermuda with plenty of wind and rain but never officially made landfall. nicole passed over bermuda and moved out to sea thursday evening. now fox5 weather 24/7 with meterologist sam argier oregon is taking the first round of pounding from a series of storms that will continue through the weekend. winds gusts of more than a- hundred-miles- an-hour hit the coast thursday, along with heavy rain. you can see it in rockaway beach, a steady surge of rain, wind and waves, raking the shoreline as well. gusty winds will continue through the weekend. a red flag warning is in effect for the las

we begin fox 5 news at six with breaking news... i'm adam herbe i'm cyndi lundeburg. a man babysitting an 18-month-old is behind bars after the child was found with severe burns... and later died. 21-year-old demond billingsley is not related to the little girl... but was babysitting... and police believe he is responsible for her injuries. the little girl was found unresponsive yesterday afternoon near sierra vista drive and desert inn. she was taken to sunrise hospital where staff saw injuries that were consistent with abuse. detectives say the child had severe burns and bruising
